Is that oracle will continue with the discoverer

Hello

We are looking for a new BI reporting tool and our options are

OBIEE
Discoverere
IBM cognos
MicroStrategy

but I think we should leave the discoverer of the list of candidate tools. What your suggest

Hello

Your decision should be based on the opportunity cost of using one of the other reporting tools that you have identified. Have you looked at the statement of direction finder, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/discoverer/overview/discoverer-sod-jan2009-132849.pdf? Currently, 10 gr 2 10.1.2 has indefinite maintenance support.

Here are my thoughts on this issue of opportunity cost:

1. by comparing with other reporting tools, you may need to consider that you might need to plan a statement migration tool at some point in the future if you go with the discoverer (e.g. 5 years or more). The initial cost to go to the discoverer would be may be low, but how that migration would fit in? Moreover, even if you go to one of these other reporting tools, which is to say that they will not be updated in the next 5 years or so with a new feature or two that require a costly migration to a newer version? Even if the discoverer is not explicitly killed, if the development does not take upward with competitors somehow real, do you want to stay on a reporting tool that has much less features that could potentially reduce development costs?

2 OBIEE is baby of Oracle, while the discoverer has the appearance of being an orphan.

We went live with Oracle Apps with Discoverer 10g is our tool for reporting in 2009 and I don't think it was a bad decision, but one wonders if we chose a tool of reporting that is not an orphan, we would be better off?
