Is there a way to synchronize files between two computers?

I'm trying to find a program or a feature that will synchronize your laptop with a desktop computer.  for example the folder My Documents reproduced on two PCs.

In the past two years, a few wonderful web file and folder synchronization services became available.  I use SugarSync.  Others include Windows Live Mesh and Dropbox.

For synchronization of files and folders on a local network, I use the second copy.  Others include Microsoft SyncToy and Karen's Replicator.

  • What is the fastest way to transfer files between two Windows 7?

I have two machines windows 7. I use LAN to copy files. It is only 140 Kbps. Then I use TeraCopy to the task. The speed is now 410 kbit/s. It is still too slow to copy a 80 GB of files via the LAN.

    You have any good ideas?

I Googled that there are a lot of said articles file copy Windows 7 via the LAN is slow as it is the case, is it?

I tried to use Windows Easy Transfer. Well, I do not see the speed, and I don't know how long it will take for the transfer file either.

I want to see a better plan and advice.

    Hello

Transfer of files from one computer to another depends on many factors such as the speed of the computer and the method you choose to transfer the file.

  • Can I synchronize Thunderbird between two computers? (The two Macs, same OS version)

I want to (temporarily?) have two computers to have exactly the same Thunderbird environment, including the same local folders, all with the same content. The initial situation will be that I will migrate data Thunderbird to my iMac, settings, etc., for my MacBook Pro and iMac will go in stock. (Repairs/improvements, of the variety 'Out of the House for a few weeks'.) During this time, I'll use the MBP and want to access my folder "sent", as well as all records of archived messages. Then, I want to move all the news on the MBP to the iMac. My hope is that I can put things up to automatically synchronize the two sets of message files, keep the two machines in service for access to the electronic mail.

    Thanks, Wimsey

The only way to do that sync constantly must have your saved somewhere Thunderbird profiles folder where computers will still have access to them. As a storage of access network for use in your home, or a cloud storage online.

With the help of cloud online for this storage will theoretically what you want, but there will be problems with Thunderbird is able to access these files quickly, causing Thunderbird to freeze. So I do not recommend this.

With respect to temporarily move to another computer, read this: move your profile folder

  • How can I synchronize time between two computers?

If I have computers connected via a LAN, how can I get to synchronize their time of a computer authoritative? I do not fear that they have the true, but just time that they have the same time. I looked at this page here configure various things in regedit so that one is prepared to act as a time server authoritative:

However, I'm not sure how to actually do other computers process as their source. As I know if you mention the date and time properties in windows, there is a section to automatically synchronize with an internet time server. This is where I would specify computers do not have authority to read the authoritative? And what I would put the server? My first thought was the IP address, but when I try that it just gives an error after trying for a little while.
I do that with windows XP computers, although the layout setting date/time in windows 7 is basically the same.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    It is an interesting question.

Of course, if your LAN is connected to the Internet, the obvious solution is to synchronize two computers at the same time source Internet, such as time.windows.com and time.nist.gov (see http://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi).

The time real internal clocks (RTC) in most computers don't are not particularly accurate, but if you want to do is have two computers Sync to the same clock, put all these settings from registry return to their default values and see the response from Hans-Georg Michna here--> http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/sync-time-among-pcs-lan-ntp-t244334.html

The "windowsservername" corresponds to the "display name" of the computer. Do right click my computer, select properties and select the "Computer name" tab

If the computer name is not recognized, it is probably because the NetBIOS name resolution is not enabled.  To test, open a windows command prompt (start > run > cmd > OK) and type

    ping ComputerName {press Enter}

Note that you do not use the two slashes back in the ping command.  For example, if the computers named Alice, Bob and Carol are on the local network, on computer, Alice, you would type

    Bob ping {press Enter}

But if you try to synchronize the time on Alice using Bob as the time source, you could type

    NET time \\Bob/set

To test the command net time, run it without parameters selected.  For example:

    NET time \\Bob

You should get the following output (following comes from Windows 7, but it should be basically the same for XP):

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    C:\Users\LemP>net time \\Bob
    Is currently at \\Bob 07/10/2013 14:30:30

    The command completed successfully.

To enable the NetBIOS name resolution:

    • Open network connections (start > run > ncpa.cpl > OK)
    • Right-click on the icon for your network adapter, and then select Properties
    • Select "Internet (TCP/IP Protocol" and click on the button 'properties '.
    • Click on the button "Advanced".
    • Select the WINS tab
    • Select the medium radio button to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP"
    • OK your way out

In another answer Ken_f suggest "a source online to centrally store the files. It's a way to do it, but not the only way.
Using your router, you can set up a working group between the two
computers (do a search on the web for info on how to do this) and share all
files or the files anything you want to share. Personally, I prefer

  • When I try to share files between two computers Windows XP with SP3, I'm invited for a user name and password on both.

I set up a home network with 2 computers with XP Media Center 2002 SP3 1 and 1 with XP Home SP3 2002 can see computers on the network and the Ping works. But I wonder a user name and password. seems to come from the computer. Do not see documents shared to the Media Center computer.

    original title: file sharing problems.

As far as I can remember, Media Center is XP Pro with additional multimedia functions.  What follows is a very old post by MS MVP Malke, but the Council is still sound:

    File sharing / print

Excellent, comprehensive, but easy to understand article on sharing files/printer under Vista. Contains information about sharing printers and files, and the folders:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

For XP, start by running the Network Setup Wizard the on all machines (see warning in section A below).

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file sharing / print on the Exceptions tab normally run the XP Network Setup Wizard will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt", it will turn on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus with "Internet Worm Protection" (like Norton 2006/07) which acts as a firewall, you're fine. With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this. The instructions on this link work for XP and Vista:

Configure Windows to login automatically (MVP Ramesh) -.

    http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not share the users directory or the Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder. See the first link above for more information on Vista sharing.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response.

  • Cannot share files between two computers.

I want to be able to share files between my computer and my wife we have a home network and I can see the file sharing is enabled.   When I go to the networks in Explorer:
    1. I see her computer
    2. He asks me a username and password.  What is my user name or his.
    3. password?  Is the WiFi password, the home page group passes, my password of the computer or its password to the computer.

I have not found a combination that works.   I need to get this working so that we can both use Quickbooks. It would be useful for many other exchanges of files we currently do by e-mail.    Note that we have no problem to access two network printers, or send files to a print server that manages our tracer.

    Hello

    Sorry for the late reply.

    Method 1

I suggest leaving the homegroup and see if it helps.

    Leave a homegroup

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows7/leave-a-HomeGroup

After that I suggest you refer to the procedure described in the following article and join in Group once more.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows/HomeGroup-help#HomeGroup-start-to-finish=Windows-7&V1H=win81tab1&V2H=win7tab1

    Method 2

I suggest you to temporarily disable the anti-virus by following the link below and check the State.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please let us know if the problem persists. We will be happy to help you further.

    Thank you.

  • How can I set sharing of files between two iMacs?

I want to set up the sharing of files between two iMacs in my office. Both work on iOS 10.11.3 and both are on the same WiFi network. I'll Finder, select the name of the other computer under 'sharing', then ' connect under... ". ", and then enter the name and password of the other computer. On a computer, I am told that it is connected with each other. However, the second computer always shows "the connection failed". I tried the 'Registered user' choice of "Guest" and "using Apple ID", but none will establish the connection. There must be something obvious that I'm missing, but I wasn't able to find out. I also tried to see if they would communicate with Bluetooth. Bluetooth screens on each computer show the the other is detectable by the proper name, but is never establish a connection.

    Connect to the same network.

Enable sharing of files on both machines.

Select the items to share on each machine and check the box in the dialog box information.
