is there any free software to play a dvd in windows media player?

I can't understand how to read a DVD on my pc with Windows XP. I installed a Roxio CinePlayer, but it will not work again... apparently, I need to purchase an upgrade for $15. Are there any FREE alternative software I can get to play a DVD on my pc?

One of the following freeware media readers can
be worth a try... they'll play anything.

    Hi amorchien,

    1. He played very well earlier?

2 have you tried to play the DVD in another computer?

    Step 1:

    In Windows Media Player.

    a. click on tools and select Options

    b. click on devices and click on DVD, then select Properties.

    c. make sure that Rip and playback are in digital mode.

    Step 2:

This problem can be caused by incompatible codecs. I suggest that remove you / uninstall all installed third-party codec packs, players or video record programs.

  • Can not hear people talking when playing a dvd in windows media player. Can hear the background music but no voice

When I play a dvd in my computer, regardless if it is the drive of 'E' or 'F', you can not the voice of the people speaking.  But you can hear background noise etc.  Just can't get the voice of the talking. Crazy ha?  It is not sensible.

    Hi the kidd.

1 are the original DVD where have they been burned?
    2. not this problem occurs during playback of the audio files on the drive of the computer?
    3. What is the file format of the files on DVD?
    4. from when are you facing this problem?
    5. does happen with mp3 files?
    6. the DVD there included language options?

I suggest following these steps suggested below and check if this solves the problem.

    Step 1:

Try the effect parameters to Turn Off the SRS WOW in Windows Media Player.

Follow the steps below to do the same. Another user seems to have solved a similar problem by disabling SRS WOW effects.

    a. Click Start, click all programs and then click Windows Media Player.
    b. in playback mode, right-click an open space in the player
Tips: If the player is currently open and that you are using the library, click the view, then choose now play to switch to game mode now.
    c. point to enhancements, and then click SRS WOW effects.
    d. "SRS Wow effects" Panel appears at the top. From there, you can turn off the feature.

    Step 2:

Try to run the troubleshooting of Audio playback and check if this may help.

    a. open the Troubleshoot utility to play a sound by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.
    (b) in the search box, type troubleshooting and then click Troubleshooting.
    c. under hardware and sound, click on the audio playback problems.
    d. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Audio playback convenience open
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-playing-audio-Troubleshooter

A workaround to resolve the problem, you can follow the steps below.

    a. Click Start, type Sound in the box to start the search.
    b. click sound in the results of search at the top of the start menu.
    c. click the reading notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is speakers. Make sure that the audio settings are configured as expected.

Then, you can check you have connected the correct speakers to outputs of your sound card, some sound cards have several outputs for front and rear speakers and even subwoofers, check them out.

You can also check if your sound card has its own table of sound mixing or program effects. Some cards have a program outside the Windows speaker beside clock volume icon. Some programs may have set up your speakers for surround, double check windows audio configurations and your sound card audio for Dolby Surround options and enabled and try to turn them off.

Hello, thanks for reading and helping me.

I try to play a legitimate, belonging to DVD, but Windows Media Player 12 will not play on my computer Windows 7 Professional.  The DVD worked a few days ago, but all of a sudden, I get the following error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I did a lot of research of these forums and on the ' net.  Here are the suggested steps I tried without success:

    • I tried VLC player.  This works.  However, rather than use this workaround, I wish to find a solution to my problem WMP/WMC.
    • I tried several DVD for years over the last decade.  These DVD works on my laptop, also running Windows 7 Professional and the shark 007 codec.
    • I uninstalled my Shark 007 codec
    • I tried other codecs (K-Lite)
    • I assured that the latest drivers are installed on my video card, XFX ATI Radeon 5850
    • I tried to uninstall Nero 9
    • I tried to use the Windows 7 troubleshooting options:
    • > Reading and burning CD, DVD and Blu - ray (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player DVD (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player Settings (detects a problem, wants to restore factory settings, every time, no matter what happens)
    • A system restore to a time when the DVD was working did not resolve the issue
    • The different links in Microsoft, I found in this forum about this problem do not seem to be useful.  There is a link that points to the set-top boxes, but this page just says: "Windows 7 comes with a decoder.
    • I assured the latest driver is available by going to "Device Manager", right click on the drive, then click on "update driver software".
    • I assured that the latest firmware is installed directly from the manufacturer's website.
    • I tried to reset my DRM by renaming the DRM under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder and by going to this Web site to upgrade:http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1
    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Media Player 12 and Windows Media Center via the function "functionality in Windows.

I would be very grateful if a Microsoft technology could chime.  Thanks for your help!

  • Video distortion when playing DVDs on Windows Media Player 12

I have indserted a Comercial de DVD in my DVD player to play a movie on Windows Media Player 12.  When the video came out, it was thousands of multi-colored square blocks.  I tried receting on WMP options, in the case where I changed a setting trying to do something.  I checked in WMC as well and it does the same thing.  I checked several discs defferent.  I checked the updates.  I even ran several viruses, spyware and Root kit scanning with luck now.  I scanned my registry to find errors.  I'm out of ideas.  Can someone help me please?

I discovered that a major alteration in the partition of OEM software was interfearing with the functioning of Windows 7.  So I reinstalled windows 7 delete all partitions on the disk.  This not only corrected this problem, but 98% of the other problems I had with Windows 7 and its components.  Although the internal DVD player has partially failed and did not read something more then a bootable disc (which I am happy that it works always in that my external DVD writer is not recognized as a drive bootable BACK), my external drive is now able to read everything properly in Windows 7 and I can now use any program including WMP to play all DVD discs or any other disc I need to read.
