Is this a virus? Is it safe?

Recently, only Skype friend sent me a message, it is an image.

It is his name:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

So I called him. He said that he didn't send it to me.

So, time passed, and another friend sent me another picture: -.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So, I refused it. Then he messaged that: -.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So, guess what? He sent me another: -.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Skype:-Windows Desktop Version / Windows 8 App (I use both)

What is going on? Is this a virus? I have not downloaded the file, only cancelled the image so it will not download. How can I stop to get the files and download them automatically?

Thank you!

[EDIT] BTW, I can't put my settings for "Calls from contacts only" as that would go against having Skype [/ Edit]

It is a well known virus.

  • Xcode opens with 'ICloudSetupView.strings' at startup after a full stop. Xcode is disabled as a startup item, but there is a new startup item called "ICloudSetupView.strings" that has a "sort" of "Strings File". Is this a virus or spyware?

The past several times I completely stopped my MacBook Pro and booted back up Xcode is the first thing to open, and it opens a window, I've never seen before called 'ICloudSetupView.strings '.

I went to check if Xcode is checked as a startup item (I usually put off because I do not often use XCode) and Xcode is not even on my list of items that opens automatically when I boot.

HOWEVER, there is a new startup item called "ICloudSetupView.strings" that has a "sort" of "Strings File".

The path to the file is:

    System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FinderKit.Framework/versions/A/Resources/SK. LP roj/ICloudSetupView.strings

The file has only the following 2 lines of code (technically 1 with overflow) that you can see in the image:

I'm quite worried about it, especially because it IS NOT defined as part of open automatically but it is.

    Or what the code does?

    Hello

In the past, I used to get these warnings of viruses, but I would ignore them since they looked much more informal, and since I had heard the warnings that require you to install MacKeeper are scam. However, this one popped up today and I was worried because it looks like the official site Apple and says that my system is seriously damaged. This warning is real and should install the MacKeeper or any other program for my Mac virus?

    Fake.

Do not install MacKeeper, it's a scam. They tell you there are viruses so you will have to pay for the program. Then the program says that it removed the virus (that were never there) in order to feel safe.

Close this window and avoid any website or you will get this message again. The scam is probably related to the Web site

    Try to repair first.

Put the disc in and go ahead and use the chkdsk command.

    You have no more options.

You can't run windows, then you must fix it.

If this does not work, I suggest a restoration of the system, or the start of the last known configuration.

  • My computer guard direct me to the Windows Startup Repair loop. Is this a virus? If this is not the case, what should I do?

    OK, here's a little history:
When was surfing the Internet (using Mozilla Firefox), he froze and said that he "did not." Then I left the computer alone for a good 15 minutes, but to realize that nothing happened. From there, I decided to disconnect the computer to see if I can re - open Firefox. But when I tried to connect it back, the computer take me on the desk. It was stuck at the screen that says 'Welcome' (the form that appears after clicking on your user name) in the end, I turned off the computer by holding the power button, because there was nothing I could do. When I turned on the computer a few minutes later, it was time that I met a huge problem.

    The problem:
When I turned it back on, a black screen appears that gives you the ability to boot your system with a repair on your computer, or start normally. I chose "start normally. After that, it took me a blue screen with a window that says "Startup Repair". He began to scan the computer saying «attempted repairs...» "When I saw this, I turned immediately shut down the computer, thinking it was some sort of virus that pretends to fix the computer. Nevertheless, I decided to turn it on for the second time. Of course, it's the same thing. But this time, I allow the scanning process to complete. When it was over, he said that the system could not be repaired and advised me to contact Microsoft, with my "contact information." I took this as a red flag, and click Cancel. I suspected it was an attempt to identity theft. (Though, I could be wrong, of course.)

Honestly, I don't know if if there is indeed something wrong with the computer or if it's a virus.

I tried to find out by going online and looking for solutions. From there, I tried a method where you press F8 several times until the Advanced Boot Options go up and selected "Last known Configuration" that did not work. I also heard on the "chkdsk" method, but I don't know how to do and there is no guarantee this will work.

After that, I did more research and realized there were several ways to solve this problem. But when I went through the tutorials, the steps have been very confusing to me. I felt like most of these tutorials aimed computer technicians or people who knew in fixing computers. The steps were so confused until I found myself referring more questions than real answers!

So now I'm reaching out to help, and I really need! It would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to format all my data.

Please keep in mind that I am a lover of computers operating. The two programs I normally use are Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Word. So please don't be assuming that I know my way in and out of a computer. I'm no where near, in every sense of the term, an 'Expert '. If you can, I would like a simple, easy to follow, simple tutorial, step by step, which is not turned to professional users. Still, I am not very competent in operating computers.

    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.

    'type': 'GraphMethodExcepition ',.

What is c. Is it possible to be a virus, malicious software? I use the latest version on my iPhone 5. So... can someone tell me what it is, because I'm really nervous... Thank you!

    Hello

Looks like it does nothing. Do not worry.

If a friend sent, you can ask her what is was.

    I hope this helps.

  • Firefox crashes all the time, this list is not in safe mode. What is the difference instead of the plugins and supplements?

My browser crashes every time and I must reduce and restore the browser to make it work. I disabled all add-ins and plugins in 'normal' mode, deleted my profile and created a new one, reset firefox and the problem persists, drunk when I run firefox in mode safe, everything works very well. Is there anything else instead of disabling add-ins and plugins this safe mode doesn't so I do it in standard mode?

Another thing is that my computer is under domain, and other local users on my computer don't have any problem with the browsers.

    Thanks for any help!

Hello armengolx7, disable hardware acceleration and check again firefox (in safe mode hardware, acceleration is disable).

    Thank you
