Good afternoon
I'm a network administrator at a small not-for-profit organization and aired on a particular issue with our 450 HP Gen 2. Using Windows Deployment Toolkit, I have an image clean Windows 7 with the applications we want to push on these machines and then followed with update driver using the HP software Assistant. In general, everything works. But every so often, a 450 HP decides to 'lose' it's network, which is replaced by up to three non-working ISATAP adapt - hidden driver. With hidden devices turned off, the Device Manager shows three network wireless, but not ethernet connections. In addition, the NIC itself is completely dark; no nice little green/yellow lights sparkle.
This was happening before with an image earlier established by my predecessor, and I discovered that this image was intended to HP 450 Gen1 and Gen2 not - even if the image has been labeled Gen2. Thought it was just a simple matter that the Gen1 image was not compatible with the Gen2 machines. They would work for a little while, then break after a series of Windows updates.
So I created my own image, repeat the steps above and for a while thought that the problem has been resolved. But I just fell on my first 'disappeared' ethernet driver scenario; Since users employing 450 HP are usually off site, they need of working machinery. But I have not found anything in the forums or through google search to indicate exactly what causes the problem.
Currently, I use the HP of a DVD Software Wizard because the laptop has no ethernet connectivity to see if that solves it, but I'm interested to know what is causing this problem so I can avoid it in the future. It's not good if users are bringing back machines to me who... was enough to say... do not work.
I look forward to your correspondence.
Best regards
Robert
Alrighty, I thought about it. Essentially, (is no longer editable in the bios) LAN energy saving mode disables the NETWORK adapter, and once off, it will idle rest. Therefore, your PC will not know to turn it on no matter how many times you restart or connect an ethernet.
Here's the trick:
1 unplug the power to your laptop, remove the battery, wait about 1-2 minutes.
2. connect ethernet port NIC, connect the a/c, insert the battery. Starts. You should see your NETWORK card light up.
3. once in Windows, go to the Device Manager. You will see that your Realtek NIC listed. Go into properties, power options and uncheck the option that reads LAN for energy savings.
Problem solved. I hope this helps the next guy.
