iTunes 12.4 - various misfortunes of Compilation of artist (s)

Discovered an interesting 'oddity' when you scroll my iTunes music section today. I am an avid collector of now that's what I call music compilations (do it for completeness sake these days...) and I spotted 2 albums weren't in the Compilations section in the 'Album view' (39 and 58, for those who are interested).

I'm pretty meticulous with my albums, so I checked the following:

1. is the compilation area checked on all the songs on the album? Yes

2. is the same for all the songs from the album the artist album? Yes (Various Artists, btw)

3. is the album stored in the folder of compilations on the hard drive? Yes

4 are the same for all the songs, i.e. the default values the sorting information? Yes

5 songs are in the same format (AAC) as the rest of the library? Yes

6 is equivalent to the cover of the album? Yes (this is where I started to clutch at straws)

Then, I tried several different things:

1 remove the songs from iTunes, but not the location of the hard drive. Result - no change

2 remove the songs from iTunes and the location of the hard drive (the trash reloaded). Result - no change

3 saved the files to another location, and then deleted from the original location. Result - no change

4 change "Various Artists" in the box of the Album artist to "various artist". Result - moved to the correct location...

5. change one song of "Various Artist", back to "Various Artists". Result - start the wrong position...

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and how to fix it permanently? My neuroses can not handle to scroll to the song and see this little wobble between "Various Artists" and "Various artist" on 2 places along a section of Compilations otherwise Immaculate

Hi jaj_danbury,

I understand that two of your albums are not shown as compilations as they should be. I know how it is important to keep things organized, then I would be happy to share information with you that can help.

Take a look at this article which may shed some light on your problem:

For most people this solution seems to be one that works: August 2008 post by turingtest2 temporarily change labels - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7904806#7904806 or http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/merge.asp - add a letter at the end of the name of the artist, close the read information, then open it again and remove the letter. This works often but I had cases where securities combined when a letter has been added but divorced when he was kidnapped again.

The following sections provide additional solutions:

Often a solution: select all the tracks on the album, file > info (or right-click > news > Details) and give them all a single "album artist", or check the indicator of "compilation" (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085#17670085).

If they are mp3 files are trying to change the version of the ID3 tag, which can cause iTunes to re - write the tags and clarify inconsistencies.  I use iTunes 7.5 (Yes, from 2007) so I can't tell you where it is in later versions.

  • My iTunes library creates multiple listings for the same artist (spelled identically)

I use iTunes for years and thought I knew how to do everything that I need in there and solve any problem that I've run across.  But in the last 10-14 days, he began to behave strangely, and I'm completely stumped.  I don't know if it's a problem with a new version, if maybe my library file has become corrupted, or if I'm missing something obvious, but as someone who spends hours meticulously entering all the right data to my iTunes library, that drives me crazy.

For some reason any recently, iTunes has begun to create several artist registrations for a handful of artists in my library (in only general I have a LOT of material for.)  Thus, for example, when I scroll my iTunes under 'Artists' library I noticed that Bruce Springsteen four times:

Bruce Springsteen (12 albums, songs of 234)

Bruce Springsteen (16 albums, 201 songs)

Bruce Springsteen (2 albums, 22 songs)

Bruce Springsteen (2 albums, 41 song)

It would be only incredibly annoying, but it actually divides some albums through multiple "artists" so that securities 1,4,6,7 will be an artist under a listing and the rest on another.

I created a smart playlist with the criteria ' artist contains 'bruce' "selected all titles of springsteen and changed the artist on EACH of them to ensure that there is no variation in spelling or spacing.  It does not exist. (Springsteen is the worst offender, having four entries of artist, but there's another 3-4 artists who do the same thing)

It drives me crazy because there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, and it is debilitating to my efforts to clean and organize my library.  I try to avoid manually recharge all my music in iTunes I have dozens of playlists I've spent hours creating and would not have to start over on those.

    Any suggestions?

  • ITunes cannot locate the music for a specific artist

All my music does not appear on my computer and my itunes, except one of my artists. Their albums/songs appear in itunes, but they may not be located on my computer. It is the music of a single artist and two albums. It allows me to play the songs on my ipod, iphone and ipad, but when I try to play music on my computer, it displays an exclamation point and the custom find or play. What should I do?

The exclamation point means that it cannot locate the files in the iTunes Media folder.

Looking for a specific file in Spotlight. Since you know what an artist is missing, search for this artist, album or song using Spotlight. If it's on your computer, projector find. All the music files in iTunes should be in the music folder. Open the Finder, click go > go to folder and paste the following text:

    ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music

Or, if you think it has been moved out of the folder of music, just look in the iTunes Media folder. It could have been placed in the right folder

    ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media

If you have a backup with Time Machine, you can also enter Time Machine and restore the file (assuming that she has been saved before he disappeared).

I also tried to change the information on the files themselves, but it made no difference.

  • Various artist - sorting issues iTunes

So I have a huge library of compilations, some are properly identified in terms of the song name, artist name, album name and "album is a compilation of songs by various artists" checked.  HOWEVER

the vast majority of them simply have Various Artists, or where the various in many cases, the name of the real artist is part of the name of the file (if necessary).

The question I have, if you use iTunes 12.x is when I use the 'artist' list, the "various artists" are not all the albums under this unique collection, but rather, it chooses random albums, or in some cases only parts of the album and lists each item individually, so my 'view artist' list in iTunes is huge.

I mucked the tab ' info/sort' a lot, but in many cases, it is just after I click OK.

I think that the changing data in iTunes 'info' window does actually change metadata in the files themselves, then it is likely that these metadata which is the problem?

If anyone has a solution, it's getting boring really have this huge list and having hunting a complete compilation because iTunes it scatters is different parts in a variety of groups.

Setting usually a common Album title and the artist of the Album for each album will fix things.

If the titles must be synchronized to a non - iOS device, this must be a good artist or the album must be defined as a Compilation.

If iTunes displays multiple instances of an artist or an album then generally what works is to select all the associated tracks and use read the information to add say an end X for each of the areas of the slopes have in common:

    • For an album. Album, Album artist, and artist (if the artist is the same for all tracks)
    • For an artist; Album artist (and the artist unless there are comments/featured artists listed which should not be changed)

Apply the change which merges things together, then remove the excess characters.

Use the view of songs and display fields, Album, genre, Album, Album artist, genre artist Album, artist and genre artist side by side to see you whether or not it is necessary to change the artist and if sorting values could be the cause of additional problems. See grouping in albums, titles for help if necessary.

  • How can I sort compilations in iTunes 12?

Hello world. I find just that if you check the box "compilation" and leave empty the label of artist Album, iTunes recognizes the songs like "Various artists". That's fine because knowing that I don't need to manually write "Various artists", not more, and so it does not appear as an artist on the view of the artist, which is correct.

The problem is that now all of these albums, reviews of Albums, appear at the end and with a chaotic order. I use this function mostly for soundtracks and I want to sort by Album name, so if I want to listen to the Soundtrack of Forrest Gump I get with the albums started with the letter F. I tried to edit the Album artist sort option, but that the Album artist tag is empty it won't let me put anything.

And if what I'm asking is not possible and all the different compilations of artists must appear at the end of my collection, at least, that I like to keep their sort by Album down here... I show you the strange order which displays iTunes with my BO:

Anyone know how it works or if I do something wrong? Thank you very much.

If you do not complete an artist Album, I suspect that when you have your library view mode Album sort order will be based on the first name of the artist on each compilation.  Which does not seem to adapt to what you see?

  • Suddenly absent compilation albums

For some unexplained reason, all my compilation albums are suddenly missing in my opinion main albums. In addition, all the songs of these compilations are not viewable in the main display of albums.

You can only see the clicking on artists-> Compilations.

    Why.

    Explain.

iTunes 12.4 has changed how compilations are managed and has at least one bug:

    • When the flag of "the Album is a compilation...". "is defined and the value of the artist of the Album is empty, these albums are listed at the end of any view album sorting by artist, under a separate"Compilations"section
    • However, albums that match this pattern will disappear from the view Albums sorted by something other than artist - we must assume that it is certainly a bug
    • iTunes grouping/sorting algorithm now seems to be to assess the values of the pieces of a compilation album of the artist :
      • an album that isn't really a compilation (i.e., all the tracks are attributed to the same artist) will be sorted by artist name in the flag of "the Album is a compilation...". "is defined
      • the same is true for the albums where most of the tracks is attributed to an artist
    • There seems to be some variations in the results when the indicator "the Album is a compilation...". "is defined and a value is entered in the Album artist field

    Possible remedies:

    • roll back to 12.3.3
    • wait for the next update will fix (hopefully) bug 12.4
    • change your library such as the compilations are grouped together by defining a common value of the artist of the Album (for example, "Various Artists") and by disabling the flag "Album is a compilation...". "(although this will not work for users of the iPod Classic and other models more older iPod that do not support label of the Album artist ).
  • iTunes ignores the titles help to synchronize

Since yesterday, my iTunes refused to add new music, I put in my library on my phone. I'll start the synchronization, it will finish the sync, but when it comes to determine the securities to copy, he jumps, then performs the synchronization. He acknowledges, there of music in my library, but refuses to add. Attempts to clear Cache/updates iTunes warning, reinstall iTunes, different cables, various ports all cease to fail, my library of compensation and add it back, and moving all my music elsewhere before adding it again does not work. Any help to fix this would be appreciated.

    A restore fixed this issued.

  • iTunes does not recognize the ripped CD

I recently had to wipe the hard drive of my iMac and start over. All back to normal. However, now iTunes doesn't recognize all ripped CDs, I did on this same computer with iTunes. I have a two compilations of commercial CD as well as those made in digitized LPs. All content - names of tracks, lengths, album art - was read by iTunes before 'erased '. Now: nothing. I tried to uninstall iTunes 11 12 and reinstalling, nothing. In addition, I can't find any other program that can read data from the CD. What can I do to import these CDs and find their metadata?

Since your post I understand these were compilation CD or CD of digitized LPs all the facts and burned by you.  iTunes will remember the content of the CD on the computer that made the combustion. This information is not actually on the CD (unless you said iTunes to save it as CD-text format which iTunes itself cannot read directly).  This registers in a special folder on the computer that has apparently lost when wipe you your drive.  For commercial CD iTunes uses the Gracenote database to assign information of CD based on the characteristic footprint track of the CD, but your being elements, will not be in the Gracenote database (not even your LPs which must be the time right as the CD version).

You have backups of your original disc?

  • Why iTunes putting same artist several times?

Recently, I added a song iTunes (from soundcloud) and edited metadata to add the name of the artist. He appeared as a separate iTunes tab even if it was the same artist name? Then, I removed the name of all the songs and their renamed by the same artist, now all the songs are in separate tabs?

I also have this problem. I have tried everything I can find via Google for example adding Album artist, grouping as a compilation (which is not the case), the removal and re - enter the name of the Album and the name of the artist of the Album. I even tried to delete the data from drive X of Y. Nothing works...

  • Why is-songs from iTunes by the same artist?

I'm a Star Wars geek and a big fan of soundtrack buff, so I recently bought a copy of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Bo and ripped the CD using iTunes. I have 17 other albums by John Williams in my iTunes library, which were under his name for artists. For some reason, however, iTunes 12.3.2.35 displays each track on this album as a new album by a different artist (in other words, instead of appearing as 18th album of John Williams, I'm now 23 new albums, one track repeat 23 separate artists named "John Williams" appear when I view my music from the artist). I have absolutely no idea why this is happening because the information contained in labels for identification of the files are quite correct and the same as the other albums. What is even more strange, it's that the new album is bundled with my other John Williams music on my iPod and iTunes actually put the new files themselves in the same folder "John Williams" like other albums by John Williams in my "iTunes Music" folder No idea why this is happening? Thank you!
