iTunes and remote folders

Dear community,

I use Apple Music and Music Match and am perfectly happy to listen to my music in the cloud. But since the Apple music offers audio books, I have to add books that I have manually. My books are in Dropbox to save space on my hard drive, so my question is this: is there a way to add Dropbox folders to the iTunes library that are only in the cloud and not on my hard drive? Probably not because this slot was taken by Apple Music. I wanted to just make sure. Any help is very appreciated!

Take care.

Christian

There is no 'slot' for online storage...  Each service can have its own connection to your Mac.

While you listen to your music to iCloud, you always use your library iTunes that is stored on your Mac.  In your case, all his music is accessible from your music to iCloud library, instead of being stored locally on your disk.  But other types of media, such as audio books that you added manually, are not accessible from iCloud.  They must be stored locally, which I think is the problem you describe.

I do not use the service "Dropbox".  What is Dropbox storage appear on the Mac as a storage device that is accessible from a Finder window?  For example, Apple offers its own iCloud Drive, which appears as a normal storage.  In the Finder, in the menu bar, go-> iCloud by carand you see your iCloud drive online storage space in a Finder window.  You can copy files, using the Finder.  So, you could put your audio files, it.  You have a total of 5 GB (higher storage available) with iCloud account, which is also used by some Apple and applications, such as messaging services.  Your music to iCloud library is separate.

I just tried the following as a test.  I created a folder named Test on my iCloud drive.  I copied a file of the song to the Test.

In the Advanced of the iTunes preferences pane, I have disabled the setting to copy files to the iTunes folder when adding to Library Media.  I need to disable this parameter if iTunes does not make its own copy of the song (for its iTunes Media folder) file, when I add this song to my library.  Because of the way you use your library iTunes, with all songs are accessed from iCloud, having this unchecked setting should be OK.  You don't want iTunes to store multimedia files locally, correct?

Then, I added the test song file to my iTunes library, from its location on my iCloud drive.  iTunes treats the song file and it appeared in my music library.  To simulate that it is an audiobook, I did right click on read the information on the song in iTunes.  Options of the Info window tab, I changed media type for audiobook.  And this song appeared in my library of audio books .  To confirm the location of the file, I did a Get Info again once and the file Info window tab, resembled the location.  The path indicated he is my iCloud drive.  So, when I played the song (audiobook), he played online storage.

You can try it by using Dropbox, if this online storage space appears on the Mac system like iCloud Drive.  Or, you can try using iCloud drive instead, as for my test.

NOTE: You can activate (double check) setting to copy files to the iTunes folder Media when adding to the library after adding your audio books.  This setting applies only when added the items to your library.  It does not change the location of the files from the existing items in your iTunes library.

  • Duplicate the 'Favorites' and 'Music' folders that appear.

In my file user a few months ago I noticed that I had two folders called 'Favorites '. I deleted one of them only a few times to make it reappear later.  Today, I noticed another problem of dupe. I have now two "Favorites" and two records 'music '. Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this and a resolution possible?

    Example: http://www.thecaldwellfamily.net/rjc/images/Clipboard-1.gif

With the favorite dupe files one is empty and one actually contains the Favorites of IE. For music files, it is empty and contains in fact all of the music stored on my PC. One that is empty display a normal folder icon while one that contains music shows the blue note CD icon. (as shown in the image link)  I tried to remove two empty folders but when I reboot him reappear. I've been using MS Security Essentials and keep up-to-date and analysis since it was released.

I think I can have it fixed for now however.  It seems that some combinations of iTunes and TuneBite creates a bunch of 'ghost' (i.e. folders hidden / system) and some were 'linked' to Favorites and music files.  When another application would attempt to access these folders (for example WMP or IE) apps could not find records and create duplicates.  I did some digging in the properties of the records and found the "Restore Default" button in the location tab. When you click on that I noticed that the place has changed the name of folder long ghost the correct path of "C:\Users\\Music" and "C:\Users\\Favorites.

Everything seems to be fine now, but if I have additional problems, I will use your suggestions to create a new user and copy only the data through. I'm just trying to not have to re - import my mail again. I am a digital packrat and have mail dating back to 1995 it takes awhile. :)

  • "iPhone is disabled, connect to iTunes" AND "iTunes can not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a password" error message on the phone and the computer! Help!

So I recently had my password wrong too many times and my iPhone 4S locked out telling me "iPhone is disabled; Connect to iTunes'. And so I connected to iTunes and decided to restore my phone. I finished the process of restoration of the configuration of my phone, but ultimately, it was not even let me in the phone! Once AGAIN he said "iPhone is disabled; " Connect " to iTunes '. However, this time, this message appeared just when I turned on my phone with a black background. I didn't scan the screen for the error message is displayed (and there was no time to be shown). When I tried to connect to iTunes again as he asked, now it says "iTunes can not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a password".

So now, he said "iPhone is disabled; ' Connect to iTunes' on my iPhone 4S and ''iTunes can't connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a password ' on my computer. WHAT should I do?

As described in step 2 of "Erase your device with iTunes" in this article, you will need to use the Recovery Mode.

Recovery mode is described in this article as well.  You may try to go into recovery mode more than once to succeed.

  • music iTunes and apple screen problem

    Hello! This is my problem:

music both itunes and apple for this. in the homepage of itunes, it will not show the scroll bar and the picture above is the page go. I dealt with this problem for a while. It is not a problem of update because this has happened during my last update (I 12.5.1). I tried to see if anyone else has this problem, but I couldn't find it at all.

    Thank you!

This could be linked to the UI, DPI problem in 12.5.1.21. If your display is set to something other than 100%, the user interface is really messed up. If you can hold the tiny icons and microscopic text, then set your display to 100%, and the user interface will look 'normal '. This isn't a fix or a resolution, but it is a workaround.

  • iCloud Desktop Drive and Documents folders

Just updated to Sierra and thought, it would be a nice feature to be able to back up desktop and Documents folders to iCloud. However, this isn't really what he does... Instead it moves to your desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive. Using your desktop and Documents folders disappear favorites. Likely, it erases the hard disk space, but this isn't what I wanted. I wanted to work on my files on my hard drive and for these to be synchronized / mirror in iCloud. As I don't do real work on the files in these folders on any other device than my MacBook Pro, having these files available by other devices was not important to me.

    Now my questions are:

    (1) Will Time still Machine back up these two folders which are now in the cloud?

    (2) if I want to recover these files on my hard drive (my computer > users > user My > Documents/Desktop), what is the best way to proceed?

    (3) is there a clever way to use iCloud in the way I intended?

    Hello tormod v.,

Thank you for your question about iCloud Drive and Sierra here in Apple Support communities. I understand how iCloud is important, and how the features can sometimes confusing, especially when things like the new macOS Sierra and iCloud combing Drive.

The first thing we want to make sure is that all your data is safe. You can perform a backup using Time Machine and an external hard drive. Some people recommend an external hard drive twice the size of your internal hard drive, because finally he fills with the backups, but as long as you have a car large enough to store all the data currently on your Mac that will suffice. Use this article to help make a backup of your Mac: use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac. To answer your first question, now that these files and folders are in iCloud drive, those who will be saved differently and separate Time machine. To do this, please open this help article: Archive or make copies of your data to iCloud under the first section, titled 'the Documents and files of the iCloud drive '. You will need to download them to the computer again and then make a Time Machine backup, display instructions.

To get these files on your desktop, go ahead and disable the function of the iCloud drive option in system preferences. Then, after the warning, go ahead and drag and drop your iCloud Drive, return to your computers local documents files and/or folders of office. Move this disk to iCloud files and put them on your computer.

You last question has been answered by yourself and the article I post above to make an archive or copies of your data to iCloud. iCloud and iCloud drive aren't backups. Yes, you can make backups of iOS and save them in iCloud, but to perform a live backup of all your files and folders, they must be located on the internal hard drive or external hard drive connected to your Mac, and that external hard drive is not excluded from backups in the preferences of Time Machine.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

  • How to disable iCloud on iTunes and my iPod Touch

I have a serious frustration with iCloud and my iPod Touch (latest generation).   I have purchased music from iTunes and download on my IPod with no problem.    The problem arises when I play the iPod to my bluetooth speaker.   The music will not play unless I have Wi Fi.  This has never happened before, and it seems to be associated with the songs that have the symbol of iCloud.   Is this true?  Subsequently, I have the WiFi?    I use my speaker for iPod/blue tooth when I'm on my bike.   Last year I logged on my bike nearly 1500 miles of road.  I desperately need my songs.

When you see a track with the iCloud on this symbol, it means that the track has NOT been downloaded on your device. That's why you need Wi - Fi to listen to.

You can download the tracks you want when you're connected, or you can activate iCloud music library iTunes is in the settings and preferences.
