Just cache the files in the profile folder

My laptop froze all using firefox and make is no longer on. I took the hard drive to back up important files including my firefox profile. However, the profile folder contains only files cache and nothing else. What happened to my bookmarks information? I was running 14 Firefox on Windows 7.

Look you in the wrong place (probably in Local Settings\Application Data).

This location is used for the cache and not the main Firefox profile folder:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ < profile > \Local Settings\Application.

The main profile folder is located here:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > < profile > \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.

If you do not include this file in the backup, then I'm afraid that your personal data is lost.

  • What is the q2tw177e.default file located in the profile folder

The application data folder, windows xp, has a folder called q2tw177e.default, located in the profile folder. I know nothing with this label when searching google. Makes me suspicious of this folder. Nobody knows anything about. Thank you.

There is nothing to fear from this folder.

This is the real Firefox profile folder that stores your personal data.

    There are two of them:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > < profile > \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\ < user > Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ < profile > \Local Settings\Application.

The latter is used for the cache of navigation and a few other files.

See also the about: cache for the location of the cache page.

  • What is the extension of the files in the profile folder - file the emails, but not the message .msf file?

I need to recover a lost Inbox (lost due to a failure). The file to the Inbox in the profile folder is somehow cleaned as if the record has been compacted and some new emails have been added. The size of the file is now a few hundred KB when there should be a few hundred MB. I have run a recovery of files on this disc, but now have thousands of files with names like Raw122354 and don't know what to look for, because the Inbox file has no extension. I can remove those with file extensions I don't know, but that still leaves too many to go through.

I guess I should also ask if this is a waste of time, if I have a chance to recover the file?

Messaging files are text files, so yes, you can open them with a text editor. I wouldn't try to open a file of messages Gigabyte with Notepad however.
There is no need to rename the file with a .txt extension, it can be opened with any text editor without worrying.

  • Is there a way to merge the bookmarks on my old pc with those on my new pc? (PS: I have unable connect to the old pc using old profile but can access the profiles folder).

My profile on my old laptop has become corrupted and I can't log in with my regular account (admin). I would like to add and merge bookmarks former firefox to another laptop, which already has existing bookmarks. I can not simply copy and paste the profile folder as this would crush my existing bookmarks and settings. Unfortunately, I have not set up the sync on this browser feature.

Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't have good tools to merge and dédupliquant bookmarks. I will propose a roundabout way to do. Here's an overview:

    (1) create a new profile Virgin (#3) in your current Firefox (see details at the end)

    (2) while using the #3 profile, restore a file in JSON format to backup your old (#1 profile) system (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)

    (3) export bookmarks restored to an HTML element in a perfect location, with a file name unique format (see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file for backup or transfer bookmarks)

    (4) exit Firefox and is reactivated in your normal profile (profile #2)

    (5) file bookmarks import as HTML (see import bookmarks in HTML file)

    (6) create a backup in case something is not going to step 7 (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)

    (7) rearrange bookmarks in the folder of imported bookmarks (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-bookmarks-to-save-and-organize-w...), possibly using an add-on deduplicating

    Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will be your plugins installed by system (for example, Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions or other customizations. It should also have databases of completely fresh settings and cool a cache folder.

Out of Firefox and start in the profile using Start Manager > Search box (or run):

    firefox.exe -P

Do not delete anything here. Any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.

Click on the button to create a profile, give it a name like OldBookmarks and skip the option to change the folder. Then launch Firefox in the new profile that you have created.

You are ready to return to the new profile and create export to HTML format.

When you return to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the button to delete the profile. It's a little too easy to accidentally delete your 'real' profile, so I recommend you to resist the temptation. If you don't want to clean up later, I suggest to make a backup of all your profiles first in case something go wrong.

  • Firefox 4. What is the difference between addons.sqlite and extensions.sqlite in the profile folder?

I have separate facilities 3.6.15 Firefox and Firefox 4RC2, using their own separate and distinct profile folders.

I already know that, in the profile folder:

    • Firefox 3.6.x has extensions.log, extensions.ini and extensions.rdf files
    • Firefox 4 has replaced extensions.rdf with extensions.sqlite
    • Firefox 4 has apparently no extensions.log
    • Firefox 3.6.x does not have addons.sqlite
    • Firefox 4 is has addons.sqlite

For a better understanding of the present, can someone please clearly, answer the following 3 questions?

    What is

    1. the purpose of addons.sqlite in Firefox 4?
    2. How it / its function differ from the extensions.sqlite in Firefox 4
    3. both are really necessary?

addons.SQLite stores the information that appears in the tab Addons > Extensions - under the button more , as well as the AMO URL for extensions that are not configuration to use this new feature.

Extensions.SQLite stores the data on the installed extensions, by replacing the extensions.cache and extensions.rdf files.

You really not need the addons.sqlite file, but I do not know the ramifications to delete the content of this file and 'locking' so that it is used. Not that it stores a large amount of data; only 320kb with 30 installed extensions.

  • How do the profile folder to change the settings?

A spammer has taken control of my email. AT & T says that I need to change my firefox profile settings, but I can't find the file. How to file.

    This has happened

    Each time Firefox opened

    Is last Thursday

Robert, if AT & T indicates that you need to change the profile settings of Firefox, you really see the profile folder. All you have to do is change the settings of Firefox by clicking on Tools at the top of Firefox and then click Options. When you change the settings of Firefox in this way, they are automatically saved in your profile folder.

In case you want to reset your Firefox settings to what they were at the time that Firefox has been installed, please follow the instructions in this article: Reset Firefox preferences to troubleshoot and solve problems.

In any case, just for your information, you can view this article to know how to locate your profile folder: How to find your profile.

  • Suspicious files in the profile folder

There are two executables in my Firefox profile folder called SESSIONSTORE. MSI EXE and TEMP. EXE. Both files have the McAfee logo as their icon (large red M with gray background).

I scanned both files with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, and no file has been reported as suspect.

Both files have a filedate of 19/12/2008 and everyone is 3 092 KB in length.

Are these files OK, they are perhaps a vestige of the antivirus McAfee or Site Advisor (which I used to use) or do I remove them?

I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Thanks for your help.

You can delete them because they seem to be quite old, 2008

Maybe it's time to create a new profile if the profile is so old to remove the remains of the previous versions of Firefox.

I noticed that your list of details system shows a lot of prefs is longer supported in the current version, and you also have a user.js file that could possibly add some of these preferences.

It is highly unlikely that your localstore.rdf has a size of large file and stores the obsolete data.

    See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • Thunderbird crashed after checking the profile folder, now no accounts

I was checking the troubleshooting to locate the Profiles to save folder. I clicked on "about plugins" to see if there was any plugins installed by default and TB crashed. It will not re-start until I rebooted the computer, and then at the launch he wanted to set up an account. The two previous accounts created had disappeared. I found file profiles and there are 2 folders with random numbers in the titles. I tried the command line profile manager and creates a new profile with the choice of the copied folder, I had. TB would not start. When I chose a subfolder under profiles he started and my 2 accounts were back with emails and folders that I created. I went to the resolution of problems again and clicked on the link and it happened again!

Should I delete and reinstall TB again to be sure? What is the best way to save e-mail? I couldn't find where you would be important old mails from TB or Outlook. We have a backup of emails from our computer to work, we need to import on the laptop afterwards. I need to work it before install TB on our portable computer with an e-mail account with several old emails that must be maintained. We try to escape using the AOL Desktop application!

  • After putting the profile folder in the trash and delete, I reinstall Firefox and get the 'missing or inaccessible profile' and cannot use firefox.

I started having the "it's embarrassing, impossible to find the website of your last" whenever I started Firefox. This happens even my preferences always says go to the home page. I deleted the folder of Firefox and re-installed application part. It did not work. Then, I deleted the folder 'profile' for firefox and then emptied the trash, so I can't get it back.
Now when I try to reinstall Firefox, I can't access the new installation of Firefox because I always 'no profile folder exists or is inaccessible.

If you return to the location of your previous profile folder (I hope that you back up your bookmarks at least?) and navigate to a level to the Firefox folder, you can find a text file called profiles.ini which always points to the folder that is now gone. To help Firefox to forget the old profile, you can try to rename or delete this file and restart Firefox. Does it work?

Also, I read in another thread that the error you received is caused by a bug where you exit Firefox, when there is no more open pages. The solution is to quit smoking at least a page open.

  • How can I access the profile folder?

    IOriginal title: profile disappeared

I had a user account under 'Pierre' (I am the only user/administrator) in which there were many folders (travel, photos, music,...). This folder/account is not accessible and visible in the Solution Explorer. Yet, when I do a search under 'C' it is still there under c/users and I can copy files and folders from there to store them in a different folder where I do not have access to the future.

How can I do this immediately accessible account again under explore with all the data that was there without recourse to this procedure of workaround/copy of humungus? Dozen thank you!

    Stone

What you reference is not an account, but a profile folder. It's probably hidden. You now need to tell Windows Explorer to show hidden folders: Tools / Folder Options / view / show hidden files, folders and drives. When you see then it again, by that you can view it right click it and checking its properties.

To be the only 'administrator': it is a very risky way of running things. In this forum we receive a flood of requests from people whose one and only admin account has failed for some reason any. Plan in advance and creating, testing and documenting an alternative admin account would you save a lot of trouble.
  • How can I delete messages in my Inbox. What is the profile folder

Messages in my Inbox had a large red cross on them when I delete all of them, but it does not actually delete the message. In the instructions on how to fix this he begins by saying open a profile folder or something. WELL... If I know what they're talking about!
Please explain how to simply delete messages in my Inbox > please, do not assume I know nothing so please do the simple instructions.

It must be something IMAP because there is no option under settings server settings for the account on my pop accounts

Happy that you guessed it sorted.

  • How to move the profile folder

    Hi all

I have four folders of data created and I want to spend the last folder first and exchange the third and second.

Is there a way I can do it. I am 9.2 planning on...

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

As far as I know I don't think you can rearrange folders.

You can always export all forms using the formdefuti , rename or re-create the files, and then import back in forms.

    See you soon

  • Is this OK to delete the cache files in the profile folder. I have more than 20 in there. I just keep later?

My default profile to 8xvafniu.default folder currently contains Cache folders numbered up to 23, a record of OfflineCache and startupCache files numbered up to 6.
I can delete these leaving me alone with the numbered last Cache folder and startupCache folder. The OfflineCache file I'll keep, of course, as well as the 2 files urlclassifier.
    Thanks for your help.

No, you must keep all records of cache. Versions of Firefox 4 + use a different and distributed cache files subfolders structure to make it possible to store more files in the cache.
