  My hard drive c [I have Windows Vista home premium service pack 2/Toshiba Satellite A205, 32 bit OS] had about 60 GB of space unused and suddenly, from nowhere, it has less than 1 GB.

  -deletion of restore points/shadow copies,

  -scanned for virus/spyware/malware.

  -uninstalled all unnecessary programs.

  Nothing I've done has increased space. What is causing this problem and how can I solve this problem?

  In fact, I discovered what the problem was by downloading WinDirStat and apparently Norton 360 has created approximately 66GB of backups so I deleted all those and my hard drive is back to normal.

  Of course it was something so simple... oh well at least it's fixed now.
