Just had to restore, computer not charge not updated...
I'm running a SE DV2745 from HP with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit purchased in February 2008, I had to do a full restore and the computer will have no updates. It will not take an update for Windows Vista for Defender. I'm trying to download SP1 manually for Vista, but need help more what to do if it works now. Thank you very much! Help, please! This is the second time in 2 months that I had to restore and no update will not work. I had to restore now a time of secoind bc the computer crashed, I guess because of the lack of updates.
... I've added a McCafee Security Suite, I have a subscription for. He had pre installed Norton and Defender is now updated as well.
Norton applications are notorious for not to uninstall "cleanly". Assuming that your uninstalled Norton free trial before installing the McAfee software, you must also run a removal tool to get rid of all the "leftovers"... Norton
1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3. click right on the file saved in #1 above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.
Now, your computer should be ready for Vista SP2:
Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows Vista, but only for Service Pack 2 (SP2). This support, initially planned to end on November 26, 2009, has been postponed until February 26, 2010, so move on! Availability of support chat or messaging differs depending on your location. Some questions may require that more support for which he is advanced a charge. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?prid=13014&gprid=582034 & select appropriate category (i.e., download problem;) Installation problem; Problems after installing a service pack).

My computer is updated automatically every day, but it has not updated at all for the past year. When I check the updates, a message appears that says "failed" and when I look to see the list of things that try to update, they all say "failed." When it seaches updates, a code appears which says "error" with a group of numbers after him. Because of the computer is unable to update, I'm no longer able to print or open all Microsoft programs, such as Word or Exel. When I try to open these programs, he told me that not to upgrade the computer could affect the stability of the computer and that I would need to go to Windows Update to install the new updates. When I open Windows Update, it says I must first install an update from Windows Update. I clicked on 'Install now' and he tries to install, but then just goes back to the original page.
The other night I went online to see what I could do about it. Several Internet sites said that the problem is most likely in the catroot2 folder and change the name of this catroot2old folder could solve the problem. I tried this and it would allow me to change the name. Now I don't know what else to do. Help, please!
When it seaches updates, a code appears which says "error" with a group of numbers after him.
And what are the error messages and lots of numbers after each error message?
Please also inform what your operating system is including service pack level and whether or not you have scanned for virus/malware etc.

my computer won't let me download the area of map Sanchez or Captain 10 print since I had to restore my computer to magf settings and I got here before that and had no problem with it, can someone please explian why or help me solve the problem that I really love both the progams and used them both much thanks.
Hello bashfulunicorn,
You should check with the manufacturer of the software if it is compatible with Windows Vista. My research I found that the PrintMaster 10 is designed to work with Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000, so in order to to use with Vista, you should try to install iwn compatibility mode.
Run the program compatibility Wizard
1. open the program compatibility Wizard the by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click programs, and then clicking on use an older program with this version of Windows.
2. follow the directions in the wizard.
See the bottom of the article for more information on this:

0rignal title: Vista SP1 didn't update problem
So, recently, I was on my computer of gf and noticed she had some updates, it could use his computer which included the SP1 update. So I went through the process trying to update his computer and he has been a disaster and have had many problems and seems to have tried everything. It has a Dell inspiron 1525 and has no CD and no key for its program of Vista. I burned a Vista recovery disk and tried troubleshooting by using that, but have not had much luck. When I use the Startup Repair tool there is no nothing. So I tried to use the restore of the system with the Description of "install: Windows Vista Service Pack 1. He had a restore point saved just before I tried to update to SP1. Whenever I chose this method, it's but the whole process then in the end it says:
"System restore was not entirely successful. File system and the setting of your computer have not changed. "
then he begins to list the details with the error code (0x80071AA7) and then gives me the option to close or 'Run System Restore"once again that is an endless loop, because I just end up with the same error each time. If anyone has had this problem and bring myself through it. I don't want to reinstall windows because it seems simply ridiculous and plus that she a lot of pictures on his computer and I want to get rid of those.
If you need more information please let me know and evil provides everything I can
HelloFollow the steps and check if the problem persists.Step 1:I suspect that your security program may be responsible for this. I would suggest you temporarily disable all security software and try the system restore.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-offhttp://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software
Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.Step 2:As for installing updates is concerned, I you should install them after you put your computer in aclean boot State. There could be a third-party software in conflict with updates. Clean boot helps eliminate these conflicts.Note: Restart your machine as usual by following step 7.Aziz Nadeem - Microsoft Support[If this post was helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful" (green triangle). Had to do a restoration complete my xp machine and will not update, in the past, system automatically updated with cartridges of siema etc service?
What is happening, it is that it is so more the possibility of a user friendly hands on automatic update of Windows XP from a clean install. Windows Update will NOT synchronize with and updated in the current order status to update a machine with a clean install of XP, but you separately download some patches and intermediate updates and apply them manually, to have a machine that connects a bit normally with Windows Update.
Install the last update cumulative security for the version of Internet Explorer you have currently is essential, and you need to download separately and install it before going any further.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2888505
Scroll to the information file for XP and Server 2003
Download the file corresponding to your version of Internet Explorer and install first.
It is also highly recommended that you install Firefox because IE8 is limited, probably compromised and sometimes useless and will crash on many sites, including Microsoft sites, including linked just above.

Dell ionsipion 1525-VISTA OS - computer when asking to start the normallyor launch startup repair... .errors will not fix, go to the windows... page only the microsoft corporation and bar shows - lights on the bars are moving. If I hit f8 and try to start in safe mode-sfe mode freezes while it loads the drivers - if I try the system restore, it says I have a corupt file and when I run disc chk it says all files are OK but then it asks me for another disc that i have not... any ideas
If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Download the Vista software from the link above.
After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
And it means Dell back to factory settings if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive.
See you soon
You had to do a system restore, now my windows will not update
I had problems with the 10 of Windows Update causing a blue error screen permanently. I tried to do a "reboot of the PC" to correct the error and it would not be completed even when left for 2 days. I finally had to restart my computer and press f8 to not get stuck in the Windows Update screen. With no system and no other available option, it was suggested to me to do a restore of complete factory restore points.
I did the restore and now I have even more questions. My windows update does not work, I update of windows troubleshooting, but it does not work and my computer says always "looking for updates" and updates are never downloaded.
My fan is running continuously since I did the restore to factory, and my CPU usage is 75 to 90%, even if I did not open any programs. Norton told me that Microsoft is responsible for the high CPU usage, but I don't know what to do about it, because I obviously don't want to disable Microsoft. I'm not sure how to upgrade my Windows at 10, or if I'm still able to now... Which sucks since I had to do due to the problems caused by Windows 10 programming initially.
Another update of the issues, I got zero problem with a feature of my computer before resetting. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
My computer is a HP Pavilion g7-1320dx laptop, and bought in 2011. Please don't tell me to get a new computer... It's definitely a software problem.
System Restore will not work
Hi FriendFriend,
1. did you of recent changes on the computer?
2. do you have security software installed on the computer?
3. you receive an error message when running the system restore?
I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state, and then try to clean boot.
It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.
How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353
Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
If the previous step fails, then view the event logs to examine the system restore service errors.
(a) click Start, click run, type eventvwr.msc/s in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
(b) click on the category System .
(c) click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for "sr" or "srservice." Double-click each of these services and then evaluate the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.
