Just went through complete HHD failure want to reintstall backup removable DVD drive

My system did not come with installation disk. Operating system has been installed at the factory "XP home" only return up to retore had same HHD. who died. Got the XP reinstalled by hidden an installation disc. I have soft ware now who will save the HHD, but if he dies again I need a bootable cd/dvd that will copy the backup to the new HARD drive. Is the way to do it?
