KB2446704
Update critical KB2446704 is stubborn to install.systems shows it downloads and every time I start this update appears in the automatic update system. I am running XP .in Add/Remove programs I see that kb2446704v2 installed. any thoughts?
Open Add or remove programs.
Uninstall KB2446704, restart the system, if you are prompted to.
Then run the .NET verification tool to see if .NET 3.5, 2 and 3 are correctly installed.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
If none of the frames above .NET cannot be verified as being correctly installed, uninstall all of them using the .NET Framework cleanup tool - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx
Download and save then install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
Which will reinstall all the .NET Frameworks 3 and, if all goes well, they can now be verified as being correctly installed and they can be updated.

For XP, the update history is on the Web site. Manually run WU, then you will see errors etc. for updates that have not been installed etc.

Hi rheapp,
Not all the updates are available to be deleted. Some updates cannot be uninstalled for example, once installed they are there permanently. Also, some updates cannot be removed using the Add/Remove Programs (Control Panel) tool.
You can check if you can find the update in Add / Remove programs.

Continuously offered to install the security update KB2446704 XP after it's been installed
I tried to install an update to security KB2446704. I have automatic updates running and the icon of written warning required to install updates. I click to install and when it's done the icon disappears briefly and then comes back saying the same thing. I checked the installed files and it does not show that it is installed that others have in the past. I tried at least a dozen times as well as Microsoft goes and install from the Security page. Need help.
A link to download would be useful, so here it is:

Sometimes .NET updates are not going smoothly... see if it will install manually is a good idea and Microsoft has free help and support for updates of security that are troublesome, and sometimes they really help (read the article for the number to call for help).

There are 4 Windows XP update (KB2446704, KB2418241, KB979909 and KB82168) that no matter how many times I install the (via Live update or the Microsoft update site) and successful installation message indicated, as soon as I turn the computer (allowing updates to install) and turn on again, such updates recur as I never installed them before (this happens now not more than 20 times). I don't know what the problem is and it became a nuisance.

Error code: 0x800706BE (cannot install KB2446704)
A security update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2446704) failed to install since last week, due to an error: 0x800706BE. It caused my computer to freeze; the facility itself has weighed for up to 6 hours (!); end the session became impossible so I have to hold the power button to get my computer to cut, otherwise it crashes for hours (see previous page); and whenever I try to install, it remains empty for the second phase, I just then cancel, inevitably causing my computer down for the umpteenth time. For the love of God, someone please help me. I've scoured the forums without success, and I have now spent more time trying to troubleshoot the computer instead of using it to produce a work.

The .NET Framework scheduled for the update is not in a "known good state", mandrake44.
Suggest you follow the recommendations of the person who knows the most about the installation and the .NET Frameworks update on this page - what to do if other troubleshooting of .NET Framework procedures do not help
Start with step 6, Checker, to determine what .NET Framework is not properly installed .NET Framework running.
Then try a repair of said .NET Framework as described by step 1.
Then perform the steps in the order they are set out in. -
