Kb2564958 cannot install security update. 0x800F0102 error message

I have Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 5150 computer Pentium 4.  I downloaded and installed Windows Service Pack 3.

KB2564958 security update has downloaded.  But it fails to install.  The error message is 0x800F0102.

My investigations of the information available to me to Support Microsoft leads me to suspect that this particular security update is designed for Windows Vista and NOT Windows XP.

If it is intended for Windows XP - what should I do to get the update of security KB2564958 to install correctly?

If it is not intended for Windows XP - what do I do to remove my system and to have guests and requests continue.  It keeps trying to install and the absence of guard.

Try to manually download the file and install.

  • Cannot install Windows updates. Error code 0 x 80070057.

After repairing my grandsons laptop, I thought do him a favor and make sure that it has been updated. His laptop is running Windows 8 / 64-bit. After verification of updates and find that there are 55 necessary updates, I proceeded to the d/l and install them. When the computer is restarted, I got the message about the update fails and go back. I then tried to install updates grouped older first of all with the same result. After the search for solutions, I ran to the troubleshooting Windows Updater which showed

    Windows Update 0 X error code 80070057 (2014-04-26-T-11_59_49P) fixed

doesn't really tell me much or what to do. Other research has forced me to do a "clean boot" and tried again to install the updates with the same results

So I spent the afternoon installing all the updates (all 55 of them) one at a time to see those who failed and caused a back. Isolated to these

I then ran the troubleshooting of update again with the same results. Check the updates again. Funny after having spent the whole afternoon doing so he showed that I have ever had checked updates, never installed updates. Two updates that did not are now installed and another two appear as needing installed (KB2903938 & KB2862335) that fails when you try to install.

My questions - are these necessary updates? Critical? If so how can I get to install them?

What a pain. I don't even want to install optional updates or upgrade to 8.1 for fear of having to repeat this experience.
