KB2656362, KB2676562, KB2679255 and KB2633171 updates keep appearing.

I tried to launch the MR fixit tool in normal and aggressive mode and tried to manually install these updates in the cleaning mode.  I even tried to install manually in safe mode as he presents in the support pages, but that just led to get the windows update error messages may not be running in safe mode.

I'm not given any error code, but these updates show as having installed in windows update, but still appear as needing to be installed in windows update.  I tried to uninstall it from my computer, but they do not appear on the list of updates can be uninstalled.

My computer is virus free and I hid them for the moment, but it is a temporary solution at best.

Thank you

  • Pop ups and few ads keep appearing on the screen, even though I have some pop-upblocker. How can I stop it?

Randomly when I turn on firefox, go to a new page or open a new tab, I'll either get a full blown pop up (almost all of them are terrible, but one was actually a full TV episode that threw me for a loop. And it was a show I actually like) or I'll get a tiny bit add or video in the lower right corner. Most of the time, although VERY annoying, I can just close. But when it shows up when I'm watching something on Netflix, I have to refresh the page so that it get out. I trainer, but I still get popup and few ads like crazy. I ran malware and virus scans. But he found nothing. I don't want to reinstall firefox if possible because I don't want to copy my 50 bookmarks... something I can do? Help?

ArcadeCandy games is a provider known ad - you must get rid of this extension. In addition, the popup blocker blocks ads, an extension like Adblock Plus is used for this type of blocking.

  • Updates to Windows KB2844285 and KB2833940 keep appearing

The above updates keep appearing and update windows history say, they have been installed successfully many times.

Is this a Microsoft Update site problem or a problem with my pc? Windows xp.

Tried a few repair Microsoft update tool and it didn't work.

The yellow shield icon update is constantly in the status bar.

Hi Andrew. It is a common problem with updates of .NET. Here are the steps I follow

    First try this...

Download and run the Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool , then visit Windows Update and let it try to reinstall updates. Once it's done, scan again with Windows Update to ensure that they properly installed.

If this does not fix it try this...
Try to install the updates manually. Follow the links to the downloads.
    KB2833940 - NDP20SP2-KB2833940 - x 86-.exe
    KB2844285 - NDP20SP2-KB2844285-v2 - x 86-.exe
Once you have installed, visit Windows Update, let it scan and see if they are still revived.

If this is not yet it solves, we need to check if you don't have .NET 2.0 or have .NET 2.0 under .NET 3.5. .NET 3.5 installs 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5.

You can check for their presence in Add or remove programs or download .NET detector, a very small, stand-alone program that displays the versions installed in bold.

If you don't have .NET 2.0 can do this...

    Uninstall the .NET Framework 2.0.
    Reinstall .NET Framework 2.0
Visit Windows Update and let it install the rest of the 2.0 updates, including KB2833940 and KB2844285.

See if that makes the problem disappears.

If you have .NET 2.0 as part of a .NET 3.5 installation do that...

Open Add or remove programs, click on .NET 3.5 and choose repair. I didn't get around to check this fix actually .NET 2.0 also, but it's worth it. I do not know if it can also cancel updates already installed .NET. If so, they will reinstall when you perform a Windows update that is the next step after the repair.

If the repair does not fix it, will add and remove programs and uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5, 2.0, then 3.0.
Visit Windows Update, choose this first installation and custom scan...

    High priority.
    .

If it is not under a high priority, see software, optional.

It must be installed by itself. Windows Update will not let you do otherwise.

When he did install (I forgot if she asks for a restart or what not), scan again and all updates for .NET 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 of the .NET .NET must appear. Choose to install.
A new analysis to ensure that they properly installed.

If all goes well, that will solve the problems you face.

Make sure you come back and let us know which method worked for you or if you still have problems, I have to run a cleaning tool.

    Good luck!

After Vista update cannot find the external hard drive, AutoPlay does not work, and new unusable disk appears under my computer. Also I can't 'manage' my computer because I do not have "permissions". I tried a fix he 45071 and it did nothing.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) (including free evaluation versions are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.) If NIS has been installed for 3 years, you have NIS update at least once and maybe twice (e.g., NIS 2009 > NIS 2010 > NIS 2011).

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) viaControl Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of NIS 2011 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

    9. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run that set it by DEFAULT and modes and AGGRESSIVE. [1]

    10. restart once again & test.

NB: Installation KB971029 disables AutoRun/autoplay on USB connected but not 'brilliant media' external drives (i.e., CDs & DVDs). See http://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2011/02/08/deeper-insight-into-the-security-advisory-967940-update.aspx

  • "Delayed write failed" message keeps appearing to external hard drive (WD passport) and problems with suggest fix kb908673 (register edit).

    I had problems with my WD usb hard drive, where a "delayed write failed" message keeps appearing when the transfer of files to or from it. Among the fixes suggested on the WD support site is a link to kb908673, and this seems to sum up my problem. This fix is included in sp3, I believe, however, the fix indicates that a manual registry editing needs to be done;

"After you install this hotfix, the following registry subkey is automatically added and configured:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB\EnSoftRetry

The registry key is configured with a DWORD value of 1. This value allows the Soft-Retry code path that is used in this hotfix.

"If you install a later version of the patch (a patch that contains later versions of Usbport.sys and Usbehci.sys), including Windows XP SP3, this registry value not be automatically added and configured. The registry value must be manually added and configured as described above to activate the Soft-Retry code path that is provided in this hotfix. »

I don't have this registry subkey and have no idea how to do to configure a key to have a DWORD value - I can create as a registry entry DWORD value in this key, but it must be given a name. Should I create a DWORD value called "EnSoftRetry" in the USB, or should I create a DWORD value in the EnSoftRetry key and, if so, what should it be called? Or am I completely misunderstanding something here?
