  Each update for SQL Server 2005 on my computer Vista Home Premuim fails. The most recent example is:

  Security for sql server sp2 KB960089 update fails with error 6AA

  Other updates have been ad are successful, although I found out recently that it is the recovery disc option to create under maintenance contract. I fdound the recdisk.exe file, but running it does nothing.

  I note that you are unable to install the Update for SQL server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB960089) security.

  Please let us know if you have performed a clean install of Vista Ultimate or is it upgraded to Vista Home Premium.

  Please try to download the patch manually from the link below and install the same safe mode:

  http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5dfb7998-0316-40E5-9fc5-7a1afc18e15e&displaylang=en

  If it still appears in the Windows updates, try the following steps and install updates:

  1 restart the computer in safe mode (to restart in mode safe keep pressing the F8 key during restart)

  2. click on the start menu and in start search box, type CMD

  3. in the list right click on CMD , and then click Run as administrator

  4. at the command prompt, type net stop cryptsvc of the

  5. rename the folder C:\ \System32\Catroot2 Windowsin Catroot2.old

  6 open the C:\ folder and then rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution as SoftwareDistribution.oldWindows

  7. at the command prompt, type net start cryptsvc of the

  8 restart the computer in normal mode

  9. run updates and check if you are able to get the updates without any error

• Update of security for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892) consistantly fails

  Whenever there is an update of the above, it fails. I checked update history goes all the way back to 2008. Service Pack 3 (KB952069) was OK on 12/12/08. Service Pack 2 (KB960089) was OK on 12/02/09. Service Pack 3 (KB9550706) on 17-03-09 failed. Service Pack 3 (KB970892) on 19-10-09 failed and failed every time since.  Why do you want to update a Service Pack 3 and then back to Service Pack 2? Could this be the problem?
