KB981793 repeatedly installs on XP

While trying to fix a few other problems, I uninstalled SP3 and then reinstalled.  According to me, there was initially 61, then 3 more critical updates found in install and one of them, KB981793, fails to install - and I have tried several times.

I see that it is linked to changes in daylight saving time, so I hardly think he criticizes. How I either do install or get Windows Update in order to stop trying to install it?

I got around this by downloading the update directly from the microsoft Web site, and by running the downloaded update. The installation was successful.

I am repeatedly offered the same two updates that are installed automatically. When I try to install any other optional updates, they are downloaded but do not install. When I check the update history, there is no failure message or any indication the downloaded updates tried to install. I tried to install in the clean boot state that didn't work and I tried to fork to install. The two who installed do not add and remove programs. I also tried the update fix - it who said that had changed the location data. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you.

Are you sure it's Windows Vista SP1 and not SP1 for something else?

If so, why SP1?  Windows Vista (long) should have been updated to SP2.  You might have some infections/infestations galore.

  • Repeated installation of Windows Vista SP1 in Windows Update and fake notification of successful Installation.

I was using Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit OS in my Dell Inspiron 1501. The operating system is preinstalled and Windows Update updated to SP2. But recently an unknown problem has occurred and my laptop cannot connect to the internet. As no reason was found, experts have advised the reinstallation of Windows Vista. I reinstalled Vista by running the operating system provided by Dell with my laptop DVD. The laptop started to connect to the internet normally.

I started to receive an update to Windows Vista SP1. I installed it. Installation has suddenly didn't have that about five minutes and the computer also has not restarted several times on its own as expected. At the end of the Windows Update notification "Update" successful installation Update history shows also succeed installing SP1. However, I am receiving the same updated daily and installed in exactly in the same way with the same result. After installation, the Windows version does not display Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 but only Windows Vista Home Basic. What should I do?

I had the same problem and it really irritated me. Even when you install SP1, and he says there are successful (takes like 1 sec inst) and you click on updates search is there once again. He said in the story who is has been installed, but is not there, when I tried to install SP2 maually it is said first install SP1, and then I tried to manually install SP1 and it says that I have already. But if you go to start > right click on 'computer' > properties it does not say you have SP1. So here's what I just did and now it worked and SP2 as well.

When you click on the support link that he gave u get the ability to run a thing 'fixit '. That run. And it still didn't work. (read everything in the support page) Then I went on this link and ran the virus Hunter MS. Nothing was found, problem still there. so I ran again the file 'fixit '. (twice he said them that something was fixed.) then I restart my computer and tried to install the SP1 Setup again and it worked perfectly :) then SP2 and it worked as well manually. and he has actally took like an hour to install. maybe try, worked for me. lol, don't know what measures was unnecessary, but it worked. You can download the SP to install it manually, simply google "manually install SP1/2 for vista" or something and download it.
Sorry for the bad grammar/spelling. In a hurry, lol. I hope that you manage!

  • Repeated installation freeze (with screenshots) - suggestions?

I have a problem with the installation of Flash.  Running Windows 7 64 bit on a Lenovo T410.  Antique Junker, but do well other than this Flash issue.  The built-in flash of Chrome is fully operational.  There is facility for Firefox 34.0.5 (the most recent, although the problem started with an earlier version and is ongoing), that I prefer.

I have download the appropriate and most recent Version:

It downloads, click on run and approve the administrator right to change.

Nothing new here.  The question is this:

Install Flash opens with a white screen:

It will remain empty for hours.  She will not, close although the reduction of the toolbar is functional.  It is the only way to stop the process in Task Manager.  This results in a warning of end-process confirmation.

The Setup program, then immediately closes and I'm at square one.  I tried to install dozens of times.  I uninstalled Firefox, downloaded through Chrome or IE, etc..  No luck.  It blocks every time.  This blank screen gel has been ongoing for months... every two weeks I get annoyed by Chrome and go back and try to understand the issue.  I ran the full uninstall earlier versions, several times.  I rebooted after uninstalling, run the download, etc dozens of times.

The only quirk I see if the install download has always "32" in the title and it's a 64 bit OS.  But I don't know enough of the difference whether what counts, and it's recommended by Adobe for the operating system and the browser download.

Any help is appreciated.  If you would like more information, I am happy to provide (if if it's something complex, please provide a step by step).

    Thank you!

  • KB979683 WU installs OK but keeps offering him yet again and again

This security update has just been published as well as several other right guard appearing as an update to treat even if it appears in the installed list. What is happening and how it stop?

Running XP Pro SP3 . In Add Remove panel only found an instance of KB9799683, which I deleted. When Windows update restarted the KB979683 arose and I allowed him to be installed. And now whenever I reboot the system, he tells me there are updates installed and of course, there are KB979683 there is only one.  When I check the list of installed patches that KB979683 is there and will be added on every time I run the update. I don't want to hide it for now until this problem is solved

I followed your steps after the posting of the updated and once it appears in the status bar (update available for treatment) I went through the process of importing certificate. It showed as having successfully completed. Then, I closed the open panels and restarted the computer. Still, the update appears in the lower right task bar and indicates that there are updates. I had a quick glance and it is always eager to update KB979683. I have bot 3 other PC with the same question. Humbug! It is not a question - simply boring.

One of these workarounds going to get KB979863 installed correctly:

Solution #1 - using Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory WINDOWS (C:\WINDOWS). Open the KB979863.log and see if there is a section that shows the following entries:

69.340: c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is in the list of oem
    drivers... jump copy!
80.656: c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is in the list of oem
    drivers... jump copy!

IF the KB979863.log contains these entries that the solution #1

    1) IF KB979863 is listed in Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, and then uninstall it and reboot the system.
    2) manually download the update from the Microsoft Download Center and Save it.
Recommend it saved directly on the root drive (the drive where Windows is installed on, usually C:\):

Update for Windows XP (KB979683) 32-bit security

    (3) once the download is complete close all open programs and browsers
    (4) KB979863 install by clicking Start > run > Browse
Click on the my computer icon in the left frame
Click the drive root in the right frame (in this case it is C:\ ), click on the Open button

    Click once on WindowsXP-KB979863- x 86 - ENU.exe to highlight, click Open
Add the /o switch to overwrite the OEM inf files

    C:\WindowsXP-KB971486-x86-enu.exe/o/o

Note that there is a space between e and the /

Then click OK and the update will be installed.
When it has finished installing it takes a restart prompt.
Make and update will not be offered repeatedly.

Note: Workaround above for installing the kernel updates provided by MVP Ottmar Freudenberger

    Solution #2

The second workaround is not related to the question of OEM .inf file above. Concerning the number of unsigned system files . To find out if the question repeated installation undergoes a unsigned system files, follow these steps:

Click Start , click run , type sigverif.exe and then click OK .
    Click on Advanced
Click on "Notify me if any system files are not signed"
Click the connection tab, check the box Save results file in a log file signature verification is enabled
Under options , the name of the log file should show as SIGVERIF. TXT . In this case, click OK
If this isn't the case, type SIGVERIF. TXT and make a mark next to add it to the log file existing
    Click Start

Be patient as the tool will take some time to run.
When the tool has finished its operation click the button Advanced to again File Signature verification tool.
    Click the recording tab.
Click the view log button. SIGVERIF. TXT is now open.

An XP system that is the problem of unsigned files will show an entry that looks like this to the top of a SigVerif.txt-

Operating system platform: Windows 2000 (x 86) Version: 5.1, Build: 2600, CSDVersion: Service Pack 3
Results of the analysis: Total of files: 3718, signed: 70, unsigned: 2573, not scanned: 1075

This is not affected by unsigned files will show a system - XP

Operating system platform: Windows 2000 (x 86) Version: 5.1, Build: 2600, CSDVersion: Service Pack 3
Results of the analysis: Total of files: 3578, signed: 2535, unsigned: 0, not analyses: 1043

If the problem is related to unsigned files, the solution is:

    (1) connect you with an account with administrator privileges. If your user account has administrator privileges, log with this account.
NOTE: XP Home Edition has no administrator account showing on connect, unless the system is started in Mode safe.
If your user account has administrative privileges of it does not need to start safe mode and log in as Admin

    (2) open an command prompt (click Start > run > type cmd and click OK )
    (3) at the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing enter after each command
You can copy & paste the commands after the speedy right clicking after > and choose Paste

    net stop cryptsvc
    Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
    net start cryptsvc
    output

    4) go to this subfolder - WINDOWS\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
    (5) remove all tmp*.cat files in the subfolder. If any of the files that start by tmp exist in this folder, do not remove any other files . The .cat files
This file is necessary for the installation of patches and service packs.

Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot . The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot is not re-created if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot .

Download manually KB979863 and Save it. Do NOT install the downloaded version of it:

Update for Windows XP (KB979683) 32-bit security

Once the download is complete, close all the open programs and browsers and then install KB979863. Restart the system, at the request and that there should be no new proposals of the update.

I recently bought a Sony Walkman.  Downloaded the Walkman guide successfully since the walkman via USB connection.  But had problems with Media go. I called the hotline and gave the link to download from the internet.  I managed to download, but not install.  The Green install bar fills almost immediately (while it is generally quite progressive - in line with the speed of installation).  And as he goes.  I tried several times and come back later quite awhile to my laptop and the situation does not change.  The taskbar is always 'unpacking '!  If I try and cancel, I can't - the 'installation' process is frozen.  The only way out is to close my computer, which takes more time than usual "installation" something is slowing the process.  I'm not IT savvy, know although a bit. I have run scans and don't seem to have any virus etc. Can someone help?  My OS is Windows XP, SP2.

I googled how to check for errors in Event Viewer.  I got to the event viewer, but as I said, I'm not IT savvy and don't know how to interpret the data.

I know how to do the little control panel and don't see listed mediago.

I already have the link that you gave me.

No doubt I should be able to download a program of good reputation without disabling the AV etc?  I'm afraid to do something stupid!

The last suggestion - I don't know how to do.  First, it is said to add the installation of applications on desktop - where I would find it.

I checked with Sony and the walkman is compatible with Windows vista.  The packaging says Vista SP1, even if I have SP2.  This would necessarily make a difference in low load capacity...

I am grateful for your advice, but it might be better to stop there?  I think I need more IT experience to benefit from your help!.

Sometimes the AV software and firewalls interfere with download / install.  Deactivation will be during the time it takes to install the application.  If you save it on the desktop, your software can have a scan option in your right click menu.
