  • I get an error message «c:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\TASKMGR.EXE-06144C13.pf is corrupt, run Dskchk»

    c:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\TASKMGR.exe-06144C13.PF corrupted

I ran Dskchk several times and I still get the error.

Is it possible to replace or repair the file.

I also run Microsoft securty Scanner with no detected viruses.

A word on what to do?

In what circumstances this error comes up?

When you run chkdsk (not dskchk), did you use the /F switch (i.e., chkdsk/f)?  Otherwise, errors are detected only and not fixed.

The files in the Prefetch folder are used to improve performance.  As a general rule, you should leave this file only because Windows XP will periodically clean older files.  See http://www.edbott.com/weblog/2005/06/one-more-time-do-not-clean-out-your-prefetch-folder/

On the other hand, although empty manually the Prefetch folder will cause a temporary decrease in performance, doing so may be justified if there is a corrupted file, as in your case.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915163/en-us

Thus, if running chkdsk /F (you'll have to answer Yes and then restart) is not fix things to the top, go to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete the offending file.  If you are unable to remove it, after return and report you receive the error message.

    Thank you, Nicholas

Ehshell.exe is a Windows system file that is used to run Microsoft Media Center. It is not a critical system file. However, the ehshell.exe file can become infected and cause errors trying to run certain programs. If the ehshell.exe is absent, it can also cause errors. Reinstall a clean copy of ehshell.exe with the Microsoft System Restore.

    Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some common questions about startup repair.

    What is the Startup Repair?

Startup Repair is a Windows Recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as system files missing or damaged, that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. When you run the Startup Repair, it scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so that your computer can start correctly.

If you experience problems when you attempt to run the Startup Repair tool, or if your computer does not have the Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer can have customized or replaced the tool. See the documentation provided with your computer or go to the manufacturer's Web site.

    How to use Startup Repair?

Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows installation disc. Startup Repair can also be installed on your drive hard if your computer has preinstalled recovery options. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem, and if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.

If you have a Windows installation disc:

    1. Insert the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer.

    2. Restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    3. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.

    4. Click on repair your computer.

    5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

    6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair.

If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:

    1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again.

      • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

    3. In the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight repair your computer and press ENTER.

    4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

    5. Select a user name and password, and then click OK.

    6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair.

Are there problems Startup Repair cannot fix?

Startup Repair cannot fix hardware failures or certain types of virus attacks. It is not a backup tool, so it cannot help you recover personal files, such as photos or documents. To help protect your computer, back up your system and your files regularly. For more information, search for "backup" in Help and Support.

What happens if startup repair is unable to solve my problem?

If the repairs are not successful, you will see a summary of the problem and links to contact for support information. Your computer manufacturer may include additional support information.

Also on the screen where you choose the Startup Repair, you can also choose command prompt. Type this (it's a single line)

  • I connect my Canon camera, wiaacngr.exe opens a window asking me to select the program to start. But it offers only two options: M/S Office Word and scanner and camera wizard.

    original title:wiaacmgr.exe

I found a lot on the Internet about wiaacngr.exe not opening not or refuses to recognize the camera.  My problem is almost the opposite!   Whenever I connect my Canon camera, by USB, my current laptop (Windows XP Pro SP3 of v5), wiaacngr.exe opens a window asking me to select the program to start.  But it offers only two options: M/S Office Word and scanner and camera assistant, neither of which I want to use.  If I close the window...  Not much, but it's a nuisance.  I would be happy if she has proposed to launch work stations.  I then click on the box "Make this every time" and will never see the window.  Otherwise, I'd be happy to remove the program completely.  Can someone tell me how to achieve one of these?  S ' Please!

    Hi laadpiyush,

    1. which version of Windows Vista is installed on the system?

    2. which edition of Windows 7 you are trying to upgrade?

    3 - is 32-bit or 64-bit?

    Step 1:

You can first check the upgrade paths to perform an Update Installation of Windows 7.

    Step 2:

Before upgrading to windows 7, you can try the following steps and start the upgrade installation.

    A. back up all important data on the system.

    Run the Upgrade Advisor

See the link to download and run the Upgrade Advisor:

    Hi Saeed,

Were there any changes made on the computer before the show?

This issue would have occurred as a result of a third-party program on a virus. Follow these methods to solve the problem:

    Method 1:

Important: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up the registry, see the link:

    Back up the registry

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

See the article and try to follow the steps to fix the problem:

When you run an .exe on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer file, the file can start another program

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505/en-us

    Method 2:

I also suggest you use the Microsoft Safety Scanner to remove viruses, spyware and other malicious software:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: the Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Let us know the results. If you have other Windows problems, please ask your question and we will be happy to help you.

    Hello

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

2 is the issue limited while accessing a particular application?

This problem may occur because of viruses, files of the system parameters.

Try the following and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article.

When you run an .exe on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer file, the file can start another program: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950505

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

    Method 2:

See the following Microsoft article and check.

Changing the programs Windows uses by default: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note: FixIt would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of data loss from that particular area.

    Method 3:

I suggest you to run the Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if there is no virus.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
