4 CŒURS processors x 2,499 GHz processor (processor Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2.50 type)

Sockets of processors: 1

Core per Socket: 4

Locical CPUs: 4

Hyperthreading: inactive

Memory: 8 GB

Ho misconfigured 4 vm

Linux IPCOP 2 vCpu 1024 Ram

Windows 2008 2 vCpu Ram 6144

Linux Ubuntu Server 2 vCpu Ram 3072

Linux Ubuntu Server 2 vCpu Ram 2048

It role data dell'host era di solo sleep he e windows firewall linux by some to servizio, in seguito una ho la add una seconda vm

Ed both sono diventate webserver e anche per altri servizi used cars.

Since the last server e costante di RAM request... Mediamente not United States 2 GB più uno dell'host... Ho pensato di eliminare due linux e farne una unica a questo punto più carrozzata.

E that the domanda viene.

Risorse sull'host mi danno currently he consumo ram a 7445,00 su 8090. by cui come ram più o meno invariato lascio e configurated 6 GB in total

My I have core... since currently sull'host CPU USE mi mediamente indica

1600 - 2200 di total of the UN of the su 4 x 2, 499 (total 9 996?)

Fatto di salvo questa ibm_db impiccata... no ho may avuto problemi di cpu by any vm... pero mi e understand useful bene come ottimizzare.

Grazie by the cortesi answers.

con win 2008 gli infili the vCPU an accesa macchina (forse con killed her licenza non you can vmware) e unica cosa che devi fare e riavviare he Task Manager is era aperto

(in realtà he discorso cambia is hai dei Server mssql, Può essere necessario he riavvio perched usi nuove vCPU)

I need to create a script PowerCLI, to search for all the virtual machines in a range of specific IP (for example 172.26.x.x) in vCenter, containing the following:

    • data of vCPU
    • data to vRAM
    • Data VMDK

This information will be used to determine adequate capacity as VMs reside on legacy hosts and so need to be migrated to a new cluster.

You should be more specific about what exactly you want with vRAM/vCPU/VMDK 'data '.

Assuming that you want the basic parameters of the inventory, use something like this:

  • VCPU appropriate Configuration

    Hi guys,.

I'm new to VM configurations is currently considering options for the deployment of the VM.

On a CPU (8 cores on each) 2 physical server (total of 16 cores, 32 with HT), which vCPU configurations are allowed?

for example can I create 8 vCPUs with 4 virtual cores on each due to Hyper Threading? Or the fact that I have just 2 physical CPU limit us?

Also about the add feature Hot CPU, if I create a virtual machine with for example 1 vCPU with 4 virtual cores, can I add additional core 4 vCPUs while the machine is running at a later stage? Also with this function it then would allow me to keep adding untial of vCPU all 32 hearts have been exhausted?

Thanks a lot for the clarification of these issues.

    Best regards

On a physical server on the (8 cores on each) 2 CPU (16 cores in total, 32 with HT)...

Without HT you will have 16 LCPUs and with HT technology, you'll have 32 LCPUs

When you create the VM, you will be able to add up to (with HT) 32 vCPU with a single VM in all combinations, such as 8 Virtual Sockets and 4 cores per socket or sockets virtual 4 and 8 cores per socket or... etc

About the CPU hot pluggable, as a guest within the VM is happy, activate this feature and use.

No, no matter how mix you VMs vCPUs different counts. Each vCPU/VM is planned individually from each other.

As long as you approve too vCPUs (busy) on a host computer, you are right, of course, which applies no matter whether or not all the virtual machines have the same amount of vCPUs.

  • Percentage of loans processor multi vCPu VMs threshold

    Hello

I'm trying to get some understanding on how to calculate VM CPU ready based on this as best practice white paper page 5:

Key indicators to measure and track

    Ready (RDY %)

-% of time a vCPU was ready to be programmed on a physical processor but could not because of the contention of processor

    -Threshold recommended: 10% per vCPU

Assuming I'm using ESXTop to get the value of %, made this means that if the percentage of % CPU ready for:

    • 1 x vCPU VM should not be greater than 10%
    • 2 x vCPU VM should not be greater than 20%
    • 4 vCPU x VM should not be greater than 40%
    • 8 x vCPU VM should not be greater than 80%

  • PowerCLI script to display the number of vCPU by VMhost use

    Hi all

I'm looking to get help here with powerCLI script to list each total number of ESXi vCPU host that is used to determine if there are any ESXi host CPU is more engaged.

According to suggestion of performance in some blog vExpert, is around 1: 3 of Jepp core ratio: vCPU allocated, then how to display the report with the powerCLI for something like this:

    PRODESXi01
    Total of nuclei available: 32
Used by the virtual machine: 28

    PRODESXi02
    Total of nuclei available: 32
Used by the virtual machine: 38

So according to the result above, the PRODESXi02 is more committed by 6vCPU allocated to the virtual machine.

Note: The available total carrots is taken from the value of logical processors from the contents tab, when you click on the vSphere console.

How to get this report using PowerCLI?

    Thank you

    You mean something like this?

  • Correct allocation of resources to VM CPU with hyperthreading VCPU ESXI 5.5

    Hello

I've read various articles on trying to size of the allocation of CPU for virtual machines and performance of subjects with overcommitting, but still can't seem to find a definitive answer with hyper threading involved for this particular configuration and hoped that someone could clarify for me.

    Example 1 - Exchange Server 2010

1 x 6 Core Processor (12 logic with hyper threading)

There are currently 1 socket and 6 hearts are attributed to him on a possible 12.

There is only 1 virtual machine running on the server. I would benefit from an increase in the nuclei of one of the following:

    1 outlet, 12 hearts

    6 sockets, 1 core

    12 Sockets, 1 core

    any other configuration?

Example 2 - server has 2 x 6 Core processors with Hyper threading enabled. (12 cores, 24 logic)

I want to attribute 2 physical cores to VM1, VM2 4 physical hearts and 6 physical cores to VM3

    Who would do the following:

    VM1 - 1 taken, 2 hearts VM2 - 1 socket, 4 cores VM3 - carrots 1 Socket 6

    VM1 - 1 socket, 4 core VM2 - 1 socket, 8 cores VM3 - 12 hearts 1 socket

    VM1 - 2 taken, 1 core VM2 - 2 Sockets, Sockets 4 hearts 2 VM3, 6 cores

    VM1 - 2 taken, 2 hearts VM2 - 2 taken, 8 cores VM3 - 2 taken, 12 hearts

    VM1 - 2 taken, 1 taken VM2 - 4 kernel, 1 core VM3 - 6 sockets, 1 core

    VM1 - 4 taken, 1 core VM2 - 8 Sockets, 1 core VM3 - 12 Sockets, 1 core

    any other configuration?

No, you can allocate more vCPU you have. what you said it is fine. I usually go for a ratio of 6: 1. for example, with 12 cores, we have up to 72 vCPUS (it's all compared to the workload type and the size of the virtual machine through)

I said that you never allocate a unique virtual machine more than the physical cores as the guest on the virtual machine OS think there full hearts to play with no hyper threaded no carrots...

But hyper threading can give use better ability to commit the resources of the processor because it intelligently uses the additional threads when the performance will not be affected. as long as all virtual machines will not work 100%, then you can add more with no real impact. If you have listed these 3 VMs had to use 100% each you'd be using 100% CPU host not 50%. never use logical cores when it comes to calculations of ability only physical cores

    See you soon

  • Maximum VCPU

    Hi all

    I have the following Setup

    Intel xeon CPU

    2.3 GHz processor speed

    Socket CPU 2

    Core processor for socket 4

    Hyper Threading enabled

Logical processor = 2 Sockets physical * 4 cores per socket * 2 (from HT active) = 16 logical processors

The calculation above, I understand that 1 - VM can have a maximum of 16 vCPU.

What is the maximum vCPU limit?

Is there any report of rule of thumb (Ex 01:12 or 1:8)

    16 * 8 = 128 (where VM 128 I can create at least 1vCPU)

Could someone tell me how can I set the parameters of vCPU.

I'll install this machine to 3 virtual servers. 1 Win 2012 Server + MS SQL Server 2012 which point in the most important and most difficult. 2 Win 2008 DC (low voltage). 3 Win 2008 FTP (low voltage).

    vcpu.JPG

    I think, I will give 2 servers. and 3. 1vCPU and 1core. And 4-8GB mem by server.

But how can I configure SQL Server for best performance?

    JM

    Hello

First, check the current configuration of the you with new software and if the new software has poor performance on the virtual machine, and then add core to this.

The subject of memory, try to start with the minimum recommendation and then add memory until the performance is not good for you.

Finally on vCPUs, he is not different between 2/2 or 1/4 because ESXi 4 hearts to your virtual machine, but it's different for the guest operating system because guest OS see the casings and carrots.

You should consider it for your licence application, for example a license applications is by socket and you must purchase a license for each socket.

I recommend, add 1 Plug and 4 hearts to your new virtual machine.
