Windows 7 Compatibility Center is not the end of everything for the compatibility of the products.  It's a jump-off point.  If the manufacturer of the product says that it is not supported on a given OS - they overshadow everything else.

My suggestion:

Uninstall all software you installed for LaCie by the past.  Reset.

Download the latest version of the software button from here:
http://www.LaCie.com/us/support/drivers/driver.htm?ID=10110

(Specifically: http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/LaCie%20Shortcut%20Button%201.2.8%20Win%2032-64Bits.zip )

Save it on your desktop... Restart, connect as an administrative use, extract the content and do a right-click on the setup.exe that is appropriate for your needs and "Run as Administrator".  Follow the prompts.  Come back after a reboot and say to everyone here if it worked.

If it's not - you will need contact LaCie.

  • Speed XP Virtual Machine with disk SSD/Velociraptor/7200 RPM EVEN!

    Hi all -

Recently I decided that I was tired of waiting for one of my XP VM to boot. He took ~6.5 minutes, at the time where all services started and everything and I've been to a logon screen. I have a Velociraptor that my (clean install of Windows 7 x 64 RC1) operating system was turned on, so I bought an SSD, installed and copied my my 7200 RPM WD Caviar Black VMs to the SSD. Naturally, I was not impressed by the results of the tests AT ALL. I saw the following:

    • Operating system loaded on Velociraptor, VM XP on WD Caviar= 6.5 minutes to start the VM/login prompt to appear

    • Operating system loaded on Velociraptor, VM on SSD= 6.25 minutes to start the VM/login prompt to appear

    • Operating system loaded on SSD, VM on Velociraptor= 6.5 minutes to start the VM/login prompt to appear

This seems really strange, since all the posts that I read is the drive faster, faster operates the VMWare VM / fastest. Throw into the mix that the portable original that this virtual machine has been converted will start in about 3.25 minutes (IBM T42, Celeron CPU @ 1.70 GHz, 2 GB RAM) and something seems really wrong...

I had markers with crystal drive and I'm getting great flow on the SSD; readings are really quick, / writing sucks, as expected.  I also notice that my boot time host o/s, Office, race etc. faster.  I really expected increases in day/night performance here on my virtual machine, not more of the same for disk SSD $200...

By the way, I have dedicated 2 GB of RAM to this VM XP and have only run with a single processor.  And before anyone asks: no, I can not improved this virtual machine to Vista/Windows 7, due to restrictions on IT.

So, my questions for the group here are:

    1. Is there something special I need to do to make the more attentive virtual machine?  The main thing that I hear, it is to throw as much RAM and disk speed, you can him... obviously, I did... and no, dedicate 3 GB, 4 GB of RAM doesn't help, either. I already tried...

    2. My VM has a single disk (~ 42GB).  Would I have noticed no improvement in speed, dividing the disk (in pieces of 2GB)?

    3. I see the best performance by using a dedicated hard drive controller (Vs the edge)?

    4. If I see the best performance with a hard disk controller dedicated, he's more intelligent RAID 0 two Velociraptors or two SSD performance for VMWare?

I am willing to spend money on a controller or another SSD or Velociraptor (or a controller and another drive), I don't want to feel like I am wasting time and $$$ trying to achieve a performance that cannot be established in VMWare.

My features of the platform are:

    • Operating systems: Windows 7 x 64 RC1 (fresh installs for all tests)

    • CPU: C2D E6750-2.67 GHz

    • RAM: 8 GB RAM

    • Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L (Southbridge: ICH9)

    • Storage:

      • Corsair Extreme Series CMFSSD - 1 64 64 GB 2.5 "SATA II MLC (contains the OS)

      • Western Digital Velociraptor 150 GB (contains virtual machines)

      • Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 TB (General store)

Thank you, in advance, for all your comments.

    @ noirfan1:

Re: #1: OK, it used to take me more than an hour to perform a scan on demand with the vmdk files stored on a 1 TB western digital 7200 RPM drive.  When I moved to an SSD (60 GB Supertalent) vmdk files time has decreased to the point where the total scan time less than 8 minutes.

Re: #2: OK, I think that there may be a service startup time, driver, or a process that can be hung up the system which is not related to disk IO.

Re: #3: If you use the same .vm * exact files on two different systems and see a big difference in time of start, check and confirm that the virtual machine configuration settings are identical.  An example would be to have the virtual CD-ROM connected to an ISO on a network share and have the virtual CD-ROM disconnected from each other.

A good test in the strict sense for the disk performance is to create clean XP install on the raptor and the DSS, and compare boot times in this way.  I'm not too familiar with the SSD Corsair you mention, but it should be faster.  Beware if it is based on the Jmicron controller (they are known to have huge problems with the random read performance) instead of a controller Indilinx Barefoot or Intel.

Another test of the performance of the hard drive could run iometer inside each virtual machine to check the raw performance of io.  HD tune is another tool, that you can use for an easier test.

    I hope this helps.

  • had to install the new hard drive, windows key does not

My hard drive died in my Inspiron 660. I ordered a new hard drive and a recovery Dell USB key. A recovery key for Windows 8 pro based on my recommended by Dell service tag. I installed the new drive and used the recovery key to install Windows 8 pro. I then used a third-party tool to get the product key from the BIOS. The product key does not work. I wonder if the product key on the BIOS isn't for Windows 8, Windows 8 pro. If so, the wrong recovery key recommended by Dell.

What should I do to activate Windows successfully?

Secondly, on my old drive hard, I had upgraded to Windows 10 while he was a free upgrade. How to bring back the free update?

Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 TH1 and TH2 had problems installing specific edition. Your key can be a simple language edition or one with Bing edition and therefore rejected by the installation of the edition of bad media.

Windows 10 TH2 and later all the windows 8.x and 7 OEM keys are treated as Windows 10 keys. Edition installation specific issues have been fixed with Windows 10 RS1. • HARD drive external with will operate at 7200 rpm on Equium A60-155

    Hello

I have an Equium A60-155 which runs at 4200 RPM and I'm having some problems running some recording software. I thought a hard disk at 7200 RPM. This will be compatible and it my computer, and then run at 7200 RPM? I'm naïve on this...

    Thank you
    Andrew

    Hello

You want to connect the 7200 RPM external HARD drive to the USB2 port?
Usually the HARD drive should be recognized if you are connecting to the USB2 port, but the question is whether you'll be able to find a 2.5 external enclosure and controller that takes care of hard drives.

If the external HARD disk controller can support this HDD then you should be able to use the HARD drive.
But he should know that USB 2.0 has a rate of raw data at 480 Mbps but stretches of effective rate to 320Mbps for transfer on a USB 2.0 HDD if no one else does not share the bus.

  • Is it possible to work on projects iMovie on external hard drives in order to save disk space on my macbook (the internal hard drive has little space)?

    Hello!

I have a problem working with iMovie on my MacBook Air... Drive HARD internal of the MacBook is unfortunately to small for the biggest projects iMovie... Is there a way to work on external hard drives or perhaps TimeCapsule?

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, put your iMovie library/ies on a fast (7200 RPM) external hard drive to the Apple format is a good way of working.  Details of the setting up of libraries are covered in the help files to:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov3fa25bae7

Note that you may need to consolidate the media in an existing library before you travel to avoid breaking links to media located in the libraries from other Apple applications.  See:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov882dee351

I would not recommend using Time Capsule - you would need a separate partition above the used by time machine, and you could put some data on the same drive as backup.  Connection speed can also be a problem.

    Geoff.

  • Considering a new 7200 RPM hard drive

1I? I have a video on my laptop.

5400 RPM does very well now, but 80 GB is getting crowded. I want a bigger drive. Do I need a faster drive as well?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of installing a 7200 RPM drive in a ThinkPad R6?

Choose with care. I didn't notice much difference between 5400 and 7200 RPM power consumption drives, but this last run a little warmer.

If you can afford it, go with a Seagate.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hard drive Mac and PC compatibility

Hi, I just bought a new MacBook Pro that runs on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. The computer I used before is a Dell XPS 13 10 Windows running. I have a 1 external Toshiba Canvio Slim ii hard drive to keep everything. I know that, so that my hard drive Toshiba be compatible with the new OS X, it must be formatted, but I will be losing all my data (260 GB total). I want to know if this option works for me:

I bought a LaCie 1 TB hard drive Portable Porsche Design with my new computer. Am I able to format my LaCie hard drive to have read/write on PC and Mac, then after it is formatted successfully, I plug it into my Dell with my Toshiba hard drive computer, drag and drop my data from my hard drive to my drive Toshiba hard LaCie (using my computer Dell Windows), and then have everything on my LaCie hard drive ready to be read or written on my new MacBook Pro (Mac) and on my Dell XPS (PC)?

If not, what are my other options?

My main goal is to be able to use one of these hard drives on my Mac and PC without having all my data erased. The trick is to get one of these drives compatible to use for my Mac and PC if I need to turn off the power from one to the other without losing my data. In addition, I want to be able to have all of my data stored on these drives ONE and not both. I want all in one place, rather than in two separate places.

    Thank you

    Ramin

Windows in your Dell himself player will be in NTFS format. Standard a Mac can read NTFS but cannot format or write on NTFS. I have no idea what format the Lacie will come initially as, but for arguments sake lets say it will be HFS + which is the standard format used by Macs. Like standard Windows can't read or write disks HFS +.

It is possible to format a hard drive on a Mac (or PC) as a format ExFAT. This format is readable and writable by Mac and PC. It cannot be used as a startup disk either on, or can it be used as a Time Machine backup of Mac disk. ExFAT is however very well to use as a disk transfer.

It is possible to get additional software for the Mac to put into shape and the read/write to NTFS volumes. See https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/

It is possible to get additional software for Windows to allow it to format and write to HFS volumes +. Seehttp://www.mediafour.com/software/macdrive/

Seagate, a maker of hard drives made a deal with Paragon Software as listed above. This agreement means a disk Seagate comes already formatted in NTFS and includes a copy of 'free' the Paragon on all your Mac software to read and write on this NTFS drive. See http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/ntfs-driver-for-mac-os-maste r - dl /

I'd be a little worried about the above 'free' copy of Paragon Software in that a) is it still news?, and b) is the version of the software up to date so that it still works in El Capitan on a Mac. Older versions of the software will not work in El Capitan.

A different approach, you might consider using "Migration Wizard" of Apple software to transfer files over a computer network between Macs and Windows PCs. See move your data from a Windows PC to Mac - Apple Support and the Migration of Windows Wizard v1.0.5.7 the concern here is that this tool does not appear to have been updated for Windows 10, it may or may not work so in Windows 10.

  • Pavilion DV6-7010US: Windows 7 x 64 OS Recovery for a customer with a hard drive defective

If a customer brings in his laptop DV6 we replace the hard drive (physical hardware failure on the read/write heads, click of death) and you notice the product key (of course) is rubbed off the label.  In addition, the client wants that pass us 850 Pro Samsung SSD (no problem) as soon as we have the HP recovery media.

So we order the media and go to install it, and the first thing we encounter at 6% is the error: failed to create the CDS. FLG

    * crap *.

    Troubleshooting time:

Tried an external DVD - RW drive to install OS - no dice

Tried a disk WD Black 7200 RPM (new) - No dice

Tried removing the RAM bars, different slot configurations - no dice

Many other hours of troubleshooting resulted with all the same result.  We even recalled HP to verify that they sent the correct discs which they categorically said they did.

  • Satellite A200 - 1 GB does support SATA 300 HARD drive?

I want to spend my Sat A200 - 1 GB hard disk with a 7200 RPM one... but they are all SATA300 models.
Is this speed mode supported by the bios, motherboard and sata controller of this laptop?

I just want to be sure that the hard drive works at its maximum speed capability and the sata and the mobo will not be a bottleneck...

If Yes, the sata controller driver whichsis?... I want this wake in my own vista installation disc.

    Hello!

Yes, you can use a disk with SATA300 mode but it only works in normal mode SATA no more at maximum speed. The Satellite A200 supports only SATA 1.0 mode (SATA150).

You can use a HARD drive with 7200 RPM, this isn't a problem.

What HARD drive capacities are supported, that you can see in the user manual. Look in Chapter 1.

The SATA driver is in the Intel Storage Manager package.

    Good bye

  • Install the new hard drive on IdeaPad Y560

I think of buying a Y560(0646-2EU) IdeaPad, there is this amazing spec for her price, however the disk hard 5400 RPM would bottleneck of performance on this machine greatly.

I wanted to buy a 7200 RPM (or faster) drive to replace by, however I'm not sure how I would like to reinstall the OS after replacing it? The other posts I've read the search for an answer to this, it seems that the OS is installed on a service partition (no - in letters), with the recovery on that OS that starts only when you set a certain touch while it is turned off.

Also, I'll be able to clone the recovery on the new disc partition?

Now, Seagate and Western Digital have aversion of Acronis True Image available on their Web sites. With this you can clone the entire HD to a new, more to create disk images.

For one HD other than these brands, various imaging and cloning software is available.

Also create the Lenovo recovery disks. They can put a default factory on a new HD installation, less the recovery partition.

  • Computer HP laptop, DV6140ca size hard drive

I have a HP laptop (model DV6140ca). It currently has a Samsung 120 GB 5400 RPM drive. I plan to replace the 120 GB hard drive with a 500 GB hard drive to give me more disk space.

I read somewhere that there may be a BIOS problem with large size on some HP laptops hard drive. Someone at - it no success upgrade HP laptop to the bigger hard drive? This laptop is 4 years old.

    Kind regards

    Donald

It is not a problem of BIOS, but for some reason any model who dislikes the 7200 RPM of any size or any speed 500 GB disks. And it is not universal. Some have had no problem with a 7200 RPM 500 GB drive, and others. For more security, I advise owners with a few 6499 dv6000 series or lower upgrade to nothing more or less quickly is a 320 GB 5400 RPM. You can use any brand 2.5 inch SATA drive laptop on the market, subject only to this suggestion and it works perfectly.

  • Laptop ASUS N550: hard drive Options?

The time has come to replace my 4 year old laptop. I took care to replace it with the recently released ASUS N550. My particular model will be N550JV-DBV1:

HASWELL of Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU

15.6 "matte screen IPS for full HD (1920 x 1080)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750 M 2 GB DDR3 graphics card

    8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz memory

1 t 5400 RPM SATA II hard drive

I already have a desktop platform solid for the heavy work of creation, but I will equip this new laptop for lighter-duty to mobile working.

I will be upgrading the RAM 16 GB, but my question is on the hard drive. The N550 is an option for 3 hard disks:

The main hard drive can be replaced by two discs mSATA III. (A shopping cart with two slits mSATA fits into the main hard disk space.) A third hard drive can replace the optical drive.

At a minimum, I'll get rid of the drive 5400 RPM and use an mSATA of Samsung 256 GB SSD for the OS and programs. The other location mSATA will get probably the same 256GB SSD.

But what about the option of optical Bay? I can fill the Bay with a 7200 rpm or SSD drive, but the choices are many:

    7200 rpm:

    -1 t 79 $7200 RPM (SATA III 6 GB/s)

    -750 GB (w / 4 GB of SSD memory) hybrid of Seagate 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache (SATA III 6 GB/s) $99

-750 GB (w / 8 GB of SSD memory) 7200 RPM Seagate XT NCQ hybrid 32 MB Cache (SATA III 6 GB/s) $132

    SSD:

    -250 GB Samsung 840 SSD (up to 540 MB/s - write 250 MB/s SATA III - sequential reading 6 GB/s) $189

    -256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD (up to 540 MB/s - write 520 MB/s SATA III - sequential reading 6 GB/s) $239

    -512 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD (up to 540 MB/s - write 520 MB/s SATA III - sequential reading 6 GB/s) $459

7200 rpm 1 t disc looks good, just for the storage of large, economic, but I wonder if I would be interested in the next two drives their cache and the SSD? How these factors are important in a tertiary player, especially in what concerns the first?

And is there a significant performance gain to climb up to the 512 GB Samsung SSD?

    John,

You still don't mention the type and duration of your project.

    Other thoughts...

    • You can ignore the 'noise' as one of your criteria for hard drives 2.5 "; they are hardly a sound, including the hybrid model of Seagate 7200 RPM. Your portable computer fan is sure to be what you mean when you use a laptop for video editing, not the reader.
    • If you do not require your optical drive, most of the time, he's seen as an external device is a great way to do.
    • Relatively speaking, what you would spend for the hybrid XT 750Go (approx. 135 dollars), would be something desirable though a 500 GB mSATA on board is sufficient for your main job. The HD would be so convenient for the boot disk image backups, backups of embedded data, etc..

I'm not determined to believe that you never want or need a lot of money for a 500 GB for your platform to speed mSATA, I'm simply suggesting a solution that makes as a springboard can complete turn out to be a solution for your needs and will be a great asset to your laptop in more 2 SSD isn't fast enough.

  • Cache and hard drives

Ask the best drive to use for my cache of ACR. There are only two choices

    1. computer laptop system disk - 300 GB 7200 RPM, 250 free, has program LR catalog, previews

    2. external 1.5 to ESATA 7200 RPM, 800 GB of free, photo files and has currently ACR cache

    Vista 64 system, 4 GB ram, Core 2 Duo, LR 2.5 64-bit

    Thank you

According to messages before, it seems that you need to separate image files in the cache.  So in your case, with only two disks, I think that the cache must remain with the catalog on the boot drive and external hard disk images.
