lack of "Add to bookmarks" in Safari 10/macOS Sierra

After a clean install macOS Sierra, I could not find "Add to bookmarks" in Safari 10.0 (12602.1.50.0.10). It only shows 'Favorites' as shown in the following image.

Yes it's true. Favorites is / are favorites.

In the Safari menu bar, click bookmarks > add bookmark and you get the dialogue you have shown from Favorites and then all subfolders, you can have, if you click on the double arrow to the right.

  • Add or edit bookmarks causes Safari to hang

When I try to add or edit bookmarks on my MacBook Pro it causes Safari hang and I must use force/quit to get out.

I use iCloud and when I try to add bookmarks in safari on my iPhone it is successful, and then it syncs to my list of bookmarks on my MBP, but if I try to edit this bookmark Safari hangs again.  As far as I can tell this has only started in the last days.

I tried logging and again to iCloud and remove the iCloud list in Safari preferences.

The software is latest version and works well in all other respects.

On your Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud and then uncheck the box next to Safari and select re.

On your iPad and iPhone, tap setting > iCloud. Disable Safari then turn it back on.

Give iCloud minutes to re sync your bookmarks, then try to add or edit a bookmark.

  • Imported bookmarks in safari are in a bookmark called IMPORTED FROM SAFARI. Can they be merged into the main Menu of bookmarks?

I had a few existing Firefox bookmarks but wanted to add a bit of Safari. Now, the imported bookmarks from safari appear as a bookmark called IMPORTED FROM SAFARI. How can they be merged so that all bookmarks fall under the main Menu of bookmarks?

You can move or copy/paste to another folder in the library (bookmarks/history Manager) through the context menu or the menu organize button on the toolbar.

    • Bookmarks > show all bookmarks
  • I can't add new bookmarks

I have been unable to add new bookmarks for awhile now,-either by click on the Star then the bookmarks icon in the toolbar (blue, flying star in the toolbar animation is happening, but the star remains empty) or in the menu on the right by clicking on a tab. I can add/edit the bookmarks if I go to the bookmark manager.

I know that this issue was raised before, however, none of the answers posted (that I got at least) helped.

I tried the solution places.sqlite. It did not help.

I tried the addon in maintenance of places. It did not help.

    Thank you

Most likely, this is caused by the IE Tab + extension. Try disabling or deleting on the page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find IE Tab + on the right side.

Often, a link will appear above a disabled/removed extension to restart Firefox for the changes to take effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Which solves the problem?

Note: I don't know if all the IE Tab extensions will be updated to fix this all seem to cause in Firefox 40. If you need to load some sites in Internet Explorer, you can use the following extension place - it sends the URL IE to load: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-in-ie/

  • How to import folders of bookmarks in Safari?

I did Foxfire my browser by default and you have several files of bookmarks in Safari, I want to import bookmarks in Foxfire. How can I do this?

    See:

  • How can I create a link or an installer that will open the bookmarks somebody bar and add some bookmarks?

The goal is to embed a link in a word which, when clicked, opens the bookmarks bar and adds some bookmarks in the document. Another option would be that the link create icons from desktop to Web sites. The main deal breaker is we do not want to change the registry for this. All creative solutions are welcome.

    Thank you

If it's for users as a whole and not in a given organization, forget the idea of profile, that would be much too intrusive.

As noted by cor - el, an extension would have privileges to perform these changes. Some resources on developing extensions, since it is beyond the scope of this forum:

  • Import bookmarks from Safari to Firefox 36.0.4 5.1.10

I can't import bookmarks from Safari Firefox 36.0.4 5.1.10. I do not see "Library" or "Bookmark manager" or something (I think I saw a function import in an earlier version of Firefox) which is often considered online. I have a white iMac under Snow Leopard (10.6.8)

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you install firefox for the first time, you should automatically see an import dialog box. If you have already installed firefox, follow these instructions:

    1. go in the bookmarks menu, then choose "Show all bookmarks" (gives you the library)
    2. in the row of icons at the top, click on the button that has a star with a clock inside icon (fifth from the left)
    3. Select 'import data from another browser.
    4. choose "safari".
    5. choose what information you want to import (you can also import your preferences and history)

  • Cannot add new bookmarks.

I'm using Firefox 34.0.5 and recently discovered that I can not add new bookmarks. A keyboard < Ctrl > d does nothing. If I click on the star to make a bookmark, I see the animation of the star wheel above the bookmark icon and turns blue in the process. But after the animation is completed, the star is colorless and no bookmarks appear in the "do not sort" or any other bookmarks folder.

I have Firefox "Reset" by the option "restart with modules disabled...". "menu of aid, but has not helped. I do not use any addons "bookmark".

Try to see this help article:

  • How to import bookmarks from safari

Specifically, how to import bookmarks from Safari 5.1.10 to 31.0 Firefox on a MacBook with OS x 10.6.8?
    Thanks for the help!

You need to do in the Manager of bookmarks (library).

You can find 'Data import from another browser' in the Manager of bookmarks (library)

    • Bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup

It is the third button in the toolbar (organize, views, import and backup)

  • I can't add a bookmark to my bookmarks bar

I recently had to do a complete reset of Firefox. I added on the Restorer Classic theme, as I did before, except now I can't add a bookmark in the toolbar (where you can drag and drop a webpage in the zone just below the address bar). I have the bookmarks toolbar option checked and there is a bookmarks menu, but when I click on it, it shows all my favorites, which lists all the bookmarks that I had in my toolbar until I had to reset Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar. Someone help me please. I feel like I have tried everything - play with the options, Googling the problem - and I am at a loss. It's really frustrating.

Make sure the toolbars as the 'personal bar' are visible.

    • Firefox '3-bar' menu button > customize > show/hide toolbars
    • View > toolbars
Press the ALT key, or press F10 to display the Menu bar
    • Right click on empty toolbar space

Open the Customize and set the toolbar to display items.

    • Firefox '3-bar' menu button > customize
    • Make sure that the "Bookmarks toolbar items" is on the personal bar
    • If "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the bookmarks toolbar, then FRY it in the palette to customize the window customize to the bookmarks toolbar
    • If the missing elements are in the palette to customize then drag them back into the window to customize the toolbar
    • If you don't see an article on a toolbar and in the palette to customize, then click on the "Restore default settings" button to restore the default toolbar configuration
  • Add bookmark adds the bookmark with incorrect URL

When I press the star to bookmark add, or click the 'Bookmark this page' it adds a bookmark with the correct favicon, but the URL is to some site randomly in my story and sometimes some website I don't know at all.

Problems with bookmarks and history does not properly can be caused by a corrupted database places.sqlite file.

You can check for problems with the database places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can only add new bookmarks to one of the three folders root (Menu bookmarks, Bookmarks Toolbar, Unsorted Bookmarks) or a subfolder of those.
