Lack of updates - update for Windows Vista (KB2598479) security and an update of Cumulative security for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista (KB2675157)

I am running Vista/32 SP - 2.  2 updates fail - update security for Windows Vista (KB2598479) and updated security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista (KB2675157).  Downloaded and run Fix - It.  If the following message in the report - 'fix default locations of Windows Update does not work.  Wouldn't have known if I had not watched the details of reports since Fix - It said that everything had been fixed.  I tried to run Windows Update and Fix - It with the "run as Administrator".

The suggestion of more optimistic that I see out there is reset the Windows Update components, but I have not been able to find out how to do this.

I try next?  Thanks for the help!

    Hello

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

I suggest you follow these steps:

Method 1: See if you can view another Web page

To do this, follow these steps:

    Start Internet Explorer.

In the top of the browser address bar, enter one of the following addresses:

    http://www.Microsoft.com

    http://www.MSN.com

    http://support.Microsoft.com

If you do not receive a similar error message after entering one of these addresses in the address bar, contact the owner of the Web site where you see the problem. The website is maybe temporarily unavailable or other problems.

If you receive the same error message, go to the next method.

Method 2: Run the Network Diagnostics tool in Internet Explorer

To do this, follow these steps:

Start Internet Explorer, and then try to access the Web page that displays the error message.

On the page that displays an Internet Explorer error message, click diagnose connection problems . The Network Diagnostics tool will run. When the tool has finished, it will notify if you one of the following results:

He was unable to find a problem.

It has detected a problem. In addition, the tool will provide guidance on the next steps to take to resolve the problem.

Note Users of Internet Explorer 6, click on detect network settings

Click IP address , and note the IP address. You may have to it for future troubleshooting.

Follow the steps in the Network Diagnostics tool to fix any connection problems.

    Start Internet Explorer.

If you receive the same error message, go to the next method.

Method 3: Use the delete browsing history

If resetting the modem or the router has not resolved the problem, delete your browsing history might help. Follow these steps to delete your temporary Internet files, history and form data:

    Internet Explore 7

    Start Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click delete browsing history .

Select the check box next to Temporary Internet files .

Select the check box next to the history .

Select the check box next to form data .

Select the check box next to Cookies .

At the bottom of the window, click delete .

Close Internet Explorer and restart Internet Explorer, and then try to access the Web page.

    Internet Explorer 6

    Start Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options .

In the Temporary Internet files section, click delete files and then click to select the text box delete all offline content , and then click OK .

In the history section, click clear history , and then click Yes .

Close Internet Explorer and restart Internet Explorer, and then try to access the Web page.

If you receive the same error message, go to the next method.

Method 4: Use the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) mode

To do this, click Start , point to programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) .

Note The Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) mode is only available for Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8.

If this resolves the problem, follow these steps to isolate the browser add-on that is causing the problem:

Click Tools and then click Internet Options .

Click on the programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons .

Click an add-on in the name list, and then click disable .

  • Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444).

Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel.  The installation fails.  When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair.  In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page.  However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules.  I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

  • Explorer Windows automatically launches Internet explorer 11 when you try to connect to an FTP site.

    I have windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Until recently I used windows Explorer to an internet FTP site FTP.

I realize that Internet explorer can be used but it is heavy for our clients to use. Creating and deleting directories and transfer files.

    Windows Explorer is much simpler.

Until recently I have just type in the site FTP (example only)

    FTP://MyFTPSite.com/

and Windows Explorer would take me to my FTP site asking my login and password. Now it automatically opens Internet Explorer 11 who don't ask me my login and password.

If I wanted to use IE or chrome or any other browser I would use them all first. I want to use Windows Explorer for my FTP sites.

How can I change this back?

I went in the "associate a type of file or Protocol and tried to change the current default protocol FTP for Windows Explorer program, but it won't let me." It allows only to IE, Chrome and other browsers not Windows Explorer.

Were there an update that changed this?

I stop my firewall and turned of my antivirus, but it still does not work and is not only on a single computer do so all our computers under W7 - 64.

Our W-XP-32 faithful computers still work fine running Windows Explorer with an FTP site, and they use IE 8. No problem using Windows Explorer for FTP here.

I also checked in Internet Explorer,

    a. click on 'tools '.

    b. Select 'Internet Options '.

    c. open the "Advanced" tab

    d. took a glance at the box "Enable FTP folder view" and it has been verified

    e. also checked the "use passive FTP mode" and he also checked.

I also have Chrome installed and rendered my browser by default, everything what was then to begin launch Chrome instead IE to my FTP site.

Here's the problem that I have clients who are not very computer savvy and I have seen some discussion to have to hack the registry, not a good idea for a non-technical computer person and I'm sure that their companies will not.

Also, some of these companies won't allow programs like Filezilla FTP, WFTP, etc. and must be installed on their networks.

Could someone my why Microsoft thought it was a good idea to change this?

    Thank you

    someone help please!

    Hello

First of all, try resetting Internet Explorer as follows - be aware that this will remove bookmarks and saved passwords etc

Open windows control panel, open Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, and then click the reset button.  Click 'Yes' or 'Ok' for all additional guests needed to complete the process.

If the above does not correct the problem, try the following.

Click on the Start Menu and select Control Panel.  Open programs and features, click on "Windows turn features on or off" and remove the check mark next to Internet Explorer.  Click Yes and then OK and then when done, restart the computer.

When Windows has restarted, click the Start Menu and select Control Panel.  Open programs and features, click on "Windows turn features on or off" and re-enter the checkmark next to Internet Explorer.  Click Yes and then OK, and when it has finished installing, restart the computer again.
