laptop cannot load due to damaged or missing drivers
Hi all
After installing the updates of Windows Vista on my Dell laptop and reboot, I get the error message that it cannot load because the missing drivers or damaged:
\windows\system32\drivers\pciide.sys
I tried all the options without success. Not everyone looks like they might try to start and then take back me to the error screen. He suggested to load my re install dvd and reboot, but of course, restarting it informs me of my missing drivers or damaged.
I also just installed a new hard drive to replace my damaged, even if I doubt that these two things are related.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

After attempting to clear the password at startup in the BIOS I was going into a more serious problem. Whenever I try to turn on my laptop it appears a black screen saying: "cannot start Windows. A recent hardwqare or software change might be the cause. "And there are two options, repair and start Windows normally. So I chose the repair, but it just goes to another black screen saying "Windows was able to start" and has instructions on how to "fix" the problem. At the bottom it says "status: 0 x 0000225 Info: the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Also, when I pres "Start Windows normally" the Windows 7 Logo flashes and then after a second, it allows just the black screen, I described above.
Here's what I think has caused:
When I was trying to get into the BIOS, I entered another Menu by pressing F10. It is the recovery of the system, according to me. Then he said something on three partitions. I used to have three partitions, a Local, recovering HP and one for my records. But then I got rid of the partition for recording and has developed at a Local level. So, I am confused on why he said there were three partitions. The system recovery may have done something for the operating system. When I press F8 and go into options it also leads to the black screen, especially the Safe Mode.Thank you!

If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7. Download the ISO relevant among the links below.
You must use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here. One time created, or if you already have this, insert the rescue CD in Notepad and restart at the start of it. Select repair your computer and choose the command prompt. When this charge, enter the following commands and press on enter after everyone – including spaces as shown.
DiskPart
list disk
select disk x (where x is the number of the disk to the partition is on - probably 0 (zero))

Post back with all the details of all the partitions that are shown.Kind regards

Reinstalling driver I tried, even. Can boot from a Windows CD. Can see CD drive when booting in safe mode for the repair of Windows, click command prompt, he shows himself as E: drive can read CDs without problem. He died with exclamation point as soon as Windows loads.
In Device Manager, have no other choice except Mitsumi driver manufacturer. The only driver who will try and charge just said 'CD-ROM', digitally signed.

My laptop does not start all of a sudden upward - it crosses the safe mode screen, acts as if it is loading windows (display the windows screen) then becomes to empty, followed by a very quick flash of the message on a blue screen: "the registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemroot\system32\config\software or its log or replacing." It is damaged, missing, or not accessible in writing. "Then, he repeats the cycle.
I looked towards the top of the error on the Microsoft Knowledge base, and the hotfix request using the recovery disk, I. I wonder how I can get the interactive help on laptop computer file so that I can run so that it fixes the problem... (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545).
Advice, that someone could give me so that I can at least get started again windows go down all the important data before reinstalling Windows would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hey Chris,
Thank you for visiting the Windows Xp forum
I was wondering if you run a retail or OEM of Windows version. If you are using an OEM version of windows, you will need to use the recovery options you have from the manufacturer of your computer. If you run a commercial version, feel free to follow the article in the knowledge base you have found.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/307545 how to recover a corrupted registry
I was also wondering if you have another computer to work? If so and you feel comfortable or know someone who can remove the hard drive from the computer and connect it to another computer. You can view the disk hard kit to join. Once the hard drive is connected, you can go in my computer and copy all the files to another hard disk.

Original title: CD/DVD drives do not work after upgrade from XP to Vista
I upgraded my dell E521 to Vista dimension, but now finds that none of the CD/DVD drives work. I also tried two external drives, same thing. I downloaded the new drivers for the internal disks and when I tried to install the windows said they already had the best drivers. Both drives are TSST - I get device status "windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The unit may be damaged or missing. "I want to upgrade to 7, but can not run the dvd, and apparently MS has no download available if you purchase cd! Am tearing my hair!
Hi krt2,
In general, the error can be caused by a missing required device driver, a required binary file is damaged, if there is a problem with the process I/O file, or if a pilot that makes reference to an entry point in another binary file which can not load
You can try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the device to solve this problem.
Step 1: Uninstall the CD/DVD driver. Follow this step to do the same thing:
a. click the Start button, select Control Panel, click System and Maintenance and then click Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
b. expand CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drives-> right click on the device, and then click Properties.
c. on the device properties dialog box, click the driver tab, and then click on uninstall.
d. restart your computer.
Step 2: Reinstall the CD/DVD driver by visiting the manufacturer's Web site.
See the links below for more details on the update of drivers:

1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known issues that might affect the installation and correct them.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor2 disable any security software, including anti-virus programs and firewalls.
