Latitude 10 ST2: Wifi / boot SD issues

Hi all

I just got a Latitude 10 ST2, which came with Windows 8 Pro installed. I'm having a few problems this long search has always been able to resolve.

First of all, I can't connect to our wireless business. The search led me to Microsoft KB2749073, which describes in detail an incompatibility between Windows 8 pilots and our Cisco access points. A single action, he recommends is to upgrade to Windows 7 drivers. So my question is: where to find Windows 7 drivers for the device wireless in Latitude 10 ST2? (She appears as a Broadcom 802.11abgn SDIO)

Secondly, I was wondering if it is possible to boot from an OS on an SD card. I read a few guides in this area, but they were written for the Surface Pro and do not seem to apply to the Dell. I tried taking top flight and get in this menu, but it does not contain an option for the SD card. There is an option somewhere that I'm missing?

Thanks for reading!

The Latitude 10 comes with active secure boot.  If you disable this option and you enable start inherited, you could be then boot from an SD card.

  • Dell Latitude 10 ST2: Screen very dark after the Windows Update 8.1 & gameplay of Diablo 2

    Hello community,

I just got a new Latitude 10 ST2, and I really appreciated the help until after that I updated for Windows 8.1 and played some Diablo 2. For some reason, my brightness is now always very low, regardless of whether the Adaptive brightness in my power management setting is enabled or disabled. I can manually change the brightness, but it has very little effect. It seems that the maximum brightness is really low for a reason any.

I don't know if Diablo 2 has nothing to do with this problem, but I though that I would include it here because it uses very outdated graphics techniques that seem not very compatible with Windows 8.1. I had to change the compatibility settings of the game executable for Windows XP Service Pack 2, force them to run with 16-bit colors and also to disable the composition of the bureau. After closing the game, icons on the desktop still seemed a little wide (they looked rather 16-bit color and had some weird artifacts) and I had to restart the tablet to correct. After the reboot of the Tablet, the desktop icons were back to normal, but my light issues began to arrive.

My first attempt at solving this problem was in the shape of the tablet. I used my USB stick that has the factory settings on it to format the Tablet and reinstall Windows 8. The process was a success, and I had no problem of brightness either. However, after the update to Windows 8.1, then by restarting the Tablet, my issue with the brightness came back.

My second attempt was to try to update my drivers. I ran the auto updater provided with the Tablet, and it updated my BIOS. Unfortunately, it has not fixed the problem at all. Then, I took a look in the BIOS and found levels of brightness in the video section. The parameters are the following:

    Brightness on battery: 7
    Brightness of AC: 15

I've tried corresponding to the brightness of the battery at 15, but it has no effect. The light problems don't occur that the Tablet is connected to a power outlet or not, I wasn't really that surprised that it didn't work. A maximum brightness of 15 is normal? (what is a percentage?) I don't want to change these settings without knowing exactly what they represent to avoid damage.

My third attempt has updated the chipset drivers which includes the video driver. I installed the chipset driver and suddenly after that the screen went black a few times during the installation of the brightness has been completely restored and colors looked nice and bright again. However, when I rebooted the Tablet I found that the problems of brightness was back. Very rarely when I restart the Tablet, the brightness is normal again, but it is super rare. A subsequent reboot simply results in brightness problems return immediately.

A few other things worth noting that come with the light problems:
    -All color gradients are not smooth. You can very clearly see the differences in brightness when a picture goes to a light color to a dark like a lot of buttons in Windows 8 start menu. It reminds me a lot of 16-bit color;
-Whenever I try to change the display settings in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, nothing happens. No matter how much I fiddle with the brightness, contrast or gamma, nothing changes, even after you apply the settings.
    -Diagnostic in the BIOS tests said that everything is OK;
-The complete diagnosis provided by the PC Dell Diagnostics program showed that each test passed successfully.

I really hope that someone can help me with this problem. The screen is also very dark, it makes it quite difficult to use tablet. Thank you!

    Kind regards

    StevenD91

Thanks for the reply! After much trial and error, I discovered that my graphics driver has been be corrupted by AVG 2014 somehow. After yet another format and reinstall of Windows 8, but without AVG 2014 this time, everything works great! : D

    Hello @adityarai82,

Thank you for visiting the Forums from the HP Support! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I read your post about the WiFi problem and wanted to help you!  I understand that you have tried the troubleshooting steps a lot already, without success.

Try to review these steps, offered by community member @Great-Christine-Tree:

First of all, we have a step by step guide to guide you through the process of diagnosis here:
Troubleshooting your wireless network and Internet access

A second option is to try the following steps:
    Powercycle the network:
    1. turn off your laptop.
    2. unplug the power to your router.
    3. disconnect the power to your modem.
    4. wait at least 45 seconds.
5 reconnect the modem and wait for it to come back online.
6 plug in the router and wait for it to come back online.
    7. turn on your laptop and test your connection.

Turn off the power to the adapter:
    1. open Device Manager. (Win Key + R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
    2. expand the network adapters.
    3. right click on the Ethernet adapter / wireless, and then click Properties.
    4. click on the power management tab.
5 remove the check mark next to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    6. click on OK.
    7 test cycle.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without the quotes and press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

It can also help to reset the winsock catalog:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes, and then press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

    Reinstall the NIC drivers:
    1. download the drivers from here , but do not run them again.
    2. go to your Start menu/screen and type Device Manager.
    3. expand network adapters.
    4. right click on the wireless adapter and choose uninstall.
5 install the drivers downloaded in step 1.
    6. restart your PC and test.

    Test an ethernet connection:
Explicit. Test if the problem persists on a wired connection to the adapter hardware troubleshooting wireless can be directed to the appropriate areas.

    Test another connection:
Many people excluded their home network as a problem if another device working on the same network. Networking is not as simple as that. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to exclude the settings for this device until the laptop has been tested on another network.

If these steps do not resolve the problem, try this document published by Microsoft for network management issues: wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the drop-down list in the upper right of the document.

  • Latitude 5430 won't boot to the top

Dell Latitude 5430, out of warranty.  The power light turns on, but he never goes anywhere.  No don't beep, no Dell logo.  It is powered, but I don't think it's to see the hard drive.  On switching on, hard drive lights up for a split second once, and then it remains off.  I tried to remove the battery, push the power button, replace the battery, no luck.  I pressed the Fn key with power button, nothing.

No don't beep, no boot, the screen remains black, but power is on.  Help, please.

See if you can get an image on an external display. If you can, the problem is with the cable display panel or the video inside the system.

If you can not, the problem is a bad mother.

  • wifi iPhone connectivity issues

I have an iPhone 6 who has struggled to find and stay connected to wifi networks. If I'm right in a router, I am able to connect and use my phone without difficulty. However, as soon as I Dodge, it loses the connection and can not find the network even if I go into wifi and try to connect.

So far I tried to reset the wifi settings that don't work. I also tried to restore to the factory settings but nothing works.

My phone is out of warranty, so I can't get it looked at. It is safe to say that it is a hardware problem? If so, what part needs to be replaced?

I don't know if this is related, but google maps and Waze don't work well, because it is said my "GPS is not available."

If you have suggestions aby, it would be great!

    Try instead this reset...

Tap Settings > general > reset > reset all settings, and then restart your iPhone and then try a Wi - Fi connection.

If this does not help, remove the WAZE app then restart your iPhone and try again Wi - Fi.

It may be that the third-party application is originally a network conflict.

Re, you can download the WAZE app if necessary.

  • Safe / 2 drive / boot up issues

My current setup is running OS 10.11.4. I have an SSD for the start up and my home folder to another internal drive named DATA. File Vault has been activated on the SSD.  I read where I could use the disk utility to encrypt the DATA reader. Made a backup, erased the disc and formatted with encryption. Restored backup. Apparently, I didn't restore properly because I had to set the permissions on my home folder. Then, when I connected like I usually do, there was a connection error. I could log in as another user Admin and all is well. After I connect with the other Admin user and then close the session, I am able to connect to, as I usually do. A restart I can not open a session and have to go through another user, first.

I was wondering if the simplest solution would be to delete my existing user and keep the home folder. Then, create another user with the same name and him entrust this home folder. Is this possible or is at - it an easier way? Although it doesn't work perfectly in the log, it does not work. Don't want it to get to the point where it does not at all.

Oh, and I also don't see my recovery partition when I boot by pressing the option key. Is the part of it as well?

    Thanks for the help.

A restart I can not open a session and have to go through another user, first.

It's because you have created a vicious circle. You cannot connect until the secondary volume is unlocked, and you can not unlock the secondary volume until you have logged in.

  • Pavilion 17 t: WiFi limited connectivity issues (Intel AC 3165)

I recently bought a Pavilion 17 t at Costco. Overall, I love the computer. But he has a major problem, which is unacceptable for a laptop. The wifi keeps does not. I have not found a model of either.

I will be connected to my wireless network, and then all at once the internet will stop working. Still, it shows connected to the router, but cannot access the internet. I contacted HP support twice about this now, and their solution did not solve the problem. The BIOS has been updated, the driver has been updated, Windows 10 has been updated, the wireless driver has been uninstalled and reinstalled. I still have the problem. If I try a reboot when this happens, reboot is very, very long time. I have it clocked 2 minutes before I did a restart button Manual power on it. But the problem of restarting seems to occur whenever the wifi problem happens (assuming I do a restart). I tried to turn the wifi market, and that is difficult. He often turns back on as soon as I turn it off, or does not at all meet my attempts.

If I connect a wired connection to the laptop, I am able to connect to the internet again. All other devices on the wireless router will still function properly when this computer does not work.

What would be my next steps to try to solve this problem? More information if you would like me?

    HP Pavilion 17-g133-cl

(Edit: Add product and OS info, correct a few grammatical errors.) Add the step 'Click 'OK' ').

Well, I was all over the internet trying to solve this problem I had the same experience. I found a solution and I signed up just to post on these forums. This problem has been a nightmare and I wanted to share.

My machine is HP Pavilion 17 G1337-CL, which has the ac3165 Intel (r) Dual Band Wireless. (I did a hardware change by exchanging on the HARD for one SSD drive)

The problem I had was produced by the Windows power management system. When I went to a few minutes, without access to the internet it would be close. I could open a browser window, but if I was not actively sends or receives data, the connection would be closed.

It's the solution of two parts (10 Windows):

    PART 1

    Start menu right click Windows

    Select "Device Manager".

Open "network cards" from the drop-down list

    Right-click "Inter (R) dual band wireless AC-3165.

    Select "Properties".

    Select the tab "power management."

Uncheck the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power".

    Click on 'Ok '.

    PART 2

Right click "RealTek PCIe FE Family Controller"

    Select "Properties".

    Select the tab "power management."

Uncheck the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power".

    Click on 'Ok '.

Restart the computer (don't know if it's necessary, but I always restart)

    It fixed for me.

I found part 1 on several forums, but I had to find part 2 on mine. I was connected to the internet for nearly 24 hours without a single loss of connection! Essentially, the driver for the controller has been close and do not restart properly. Without the controller, the wireless adapter cannot communicate with the system.

Sincerely, I hope this helps, it is a beast of a problem and was all-consuming for my last three days off!

Try running Windows 10 on a TD340. 8.1 Windows and Windows Server 2016 (pre-Relase) work very well, but with Windows 10, it will stop the startup on the circle of rotation. If I reset, it will start fine.

  • No Bluetooth on Latitude E5540 although Wifi works (Intel Dual Band AC-7260 BT + Wifi)

    Hello

as indicated, I can't do the bluetooth on my laptop E5540, although the chip works fine (Intel Dual Band AC-7260 BT + Wifi). I do not use so much so I discovered a few days ago:

Win7 showed an "unknown device" which was clearly referring to BT

After a round of Microsoft/Dell/Intel updates, there is no more 'unknown devices' but still no trace of BT (as you can see in the following image).

    Help?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Brad,

Thanks for the tips. I have indeed tried everything and more, but no bluetooth device was visible... I finally checked the BIOS, and we are here:

    SOLVED.

The question was in fact related to an option: "want you as the physical button on the left to control: wifi, wifi + bluetooth...» ». I probably suddenly unchecked bluetooth, there is no more way to power it on.

    Thank you

  • Smartphones blackBerry 9780 nine BB does not connect to wifi + other hardware issues

After using a BB 8100 for three years, I got a new BB 9780 April 15, 2011. Since then I traded this 8 BB9780 (Yes EIGHT times) for various reasons of material (keys not working not) to wifi camera connectivity and repent gel, too much to list.

I don't post often, but after all I've been though I want to make people out there to know everything they can end up with (lemons). I think there's a lot of people out there be silent or just ignoring the problems they have with their latest 9780 s BB.

I personally am extremely disappointing with this RIM product however I'm stuck with a BB just because of the environment inherited from the old BB - otherwise I would have jumped out of the world of BB with zero regret (after being so happy with my old 8100 for 3 years) and enterprise configurations.

Now that I'm stuck with it I always get the wifi connectivity problem to deal with. I must say that I am good enough art to find the settings and configuration of the device.

I have a Belkin wireless router, which works very well with 6 other devices via MAC address wifi controlled environment. Connect my BB ON and OFF for this network. Current is plugged is sometimes not. I have the wifi symbol showing that is connected but when I want to access the internet, I get the message saying "the network is currently unavailable" and "there's coverage insufficient network in the process ask you" (that's when the network Mobile option turn it off to test the wifi only).

Can anyone tell how to solve this problem.

FOR ALL THE BB9780 out there with wifi problems.

This looks like a problem specific to the BB users who have transferred their plan of an old BB without a new BB with wifi wifi built in.

When you make this transfer you SHOULD ask your provider (ROGERS in my case) to change your data plan for a completely new rather than keeping your old BB data plan. You don't have to worry about the price. Just get the plan that they send Activation Message and Service directories then you ask them to get back you on your plan on the other if you care about the price difference.

It sounds like there is a glitch in the BB server on (specific to the OS6) BB browser and the browser will not allow you to access the internet without this thing - actuall does but on and off.

WiFi works like magic now... after a time to 7BBs I'm back as defective, that it's about.

  • Latitude 10 - ST2 Dock HDMI problems

I just pulled up on my docking station and found that it worked perfectly out of the box.  Unlike some others who have had problems, I felt lucky until I tried to get the HDMI to work with my Dell monitor.

It's about that simple, the monitor does not detect a device and the device does not detect an HDMI monitor.  I've updated the BIOS and drivers Intel for the latest versions from today and still nothing.  I'd appreciate any advice or experiences like mine that could help me to get this resolved.

Quick update on my situation.  I was able to get the dock running after realizing that you cannot convert HDMI in Display Port, only the opposite.  My monitor DELL Professional is not HDMI, there a display Port.  Not sure who came up with this idea, but it seems that HDMI is a standard that is good enough to not have to create another.

In any case, I was using a HDMI Display Port adapter--> and after reading upwards, is that you can convert only the signal in a way.  Turns out the other way, of what I was trying.  If you have a video card that has a display out Port, you can use this adapter to convert to HDMI.  I do in fact with another computer of mine.  However, if you have a monitor with a Display Port, you can not convert HDMI Port to display in this way.

Anyway, I ended up finding a DVI switch and turned the HDMI/DVI monitor and everything works fine.  It's a little weird for the signal on the screen, but as you mention, if you start the camera on the dock, it seems to detect the signal.  Without that, it seems random as to if the signal is getting sent to the monitor.  Sometimes, the monitor just says not: 'no signal' until I have restart the device.

Thank you all for the contributions.
