Length of CAT5 between router and modem

Wireless router WRT54G:

Internet and network performance (speed) takes a hit if I move the WiFi router? Right now I'm using a cable CAT5e 3'. I would like to move the router using CAT5e 25' - 50'. Undesirable effects?

Thank you!

Theoretically, this should still be ok if it is still within 100 feet, but then again all know us more cable, we use the higher resistance that it contains, a switch between the two can help, but it cannot do everything. It will work, but it will have an effect when even... sometimes just live with it.

Here is some information on the cable, CLICK HERE

  • Unable to connect to the Internet via the router and Modem

I've recently updated my version of office xp to windows 7. I have a D-link router and a modem with an ISP, and they are all correct, the son. I tried to install the router, but it cannot detect an ethernet cable, even if everything is good. I shot all three offshore, the computer, the modem and router for 60 seconds, reset the router and tried to configure a connection through windows, but nothing seems to work. I have a laptop that can capture the wireless signal and connect to the internet through this. But it's the computer that cannot find the modem or router and does not connect to the internet, I am lost on what to do.

If your laptop is connected through the router (wireless), then your router is
    more or less OK.

    Go to Control Panel/network connections.
If your PC has both wireless and LAN cards, turn off your PC wireless
    network, here's how:

Right-click on the icon of your PC's wireless network connection. Select Disable. Wait
until the end of this process.
Then, right click on icon to connect to the LAN of your PC. Select Disable. Wait
until the end of this process.
Now right click on icon to connect to the LAN of your PC. Select Enable. Wait
until the end of this process.

Open a command window (cmd.exe). We will see if there is a LAN connection. On
    the command line type:

    Ping 67.195.160.76

then 'Enter '. What answer did you (paste here). If you receive the answer
    pings, enter this next...

    Ping www.yahoo.com

then 'Enter '. What answer did you (paste here). If you receive the answer
pings, open your browser and go to www.yahoo.com. What is going on?

    Other things to check...
You have DHCP enabled in your router configuration (preferred answer: Yes)
Set the maximum number of DHCP users to 10 or more (you can reduce that
    later if you prefer).
Is set to "obtain an IP address automatically" the IP address of your PC
(preference response: Yes, unless you know what you are doing) or is it
    already a value in place.

  • Difference between Routed and Transperant mode on firewall

    Hello

Can someone explain how Routed and transperant on Cisco ASA in simple words...

The main difference is transparent and works routed layer 3 to layer 2.

When the ASA is in routed mode, the networks connected to the ASA on two interfaces must be on different subnets.  While in transparent mode, the subnets can be the same.

Mode routed, as its name suggests, the packets are routed between the interfaces.  In transparent mode, interfaces are bridged so the package is transferred instead of routed (although the inspection and control of the ACL still take place).

  • router and modem lights are flashing and the printer does not work wireless and system said detection of problems

Cannot communicate with the printer wireles or pluged.  Lights suggesting that something is not connected correctly.

Check with the manufacturer of the router/modem, or if it is provided by an access provider, ask your ISP.  Flashing lights definitely have a meaning and if deciphered will tell you what does not work correctly or well connected.

  • VPN between 878 router and ASA 5505

    Hello world

I struggled for a few days now to get a VPN connection works.

    The situation

Two offices needs to be connected to eachother with a VPN. The two parties have a WAN connection.

The tunnel between locations rises very well but the communication fails in almost any way.

The host cannot ping each other and also the inside of the router and ASA pings fail.

The only ping works is from inside Site2 to the inside interface of the router side 1 (192.168.1.100 to 192.168.0.250)

NAT works very well on both sites behind the router / asa.

I think I'm doing something wrong with the roads or access lists but after 7 days, many refills, restores, driving from one end of the State to the other to reset stupid moves break and resolder my cable from the console and things completely with default start for 10 times, I'm through, I honestly don't know where to look for more...

    Tech Specs:

Site1: has a cable modem that gives a WAN IP with DHCP address

This modem connects to the Cisco 878 (Fastethernet0) router

The router acts as a DHCP server and NAT gateway for the office and offers vpn connectivity to the other office

Site2: has a cable-modem/router (Cisco 3925), which made the NAT, this modem/router gives an IP private class-C (192.168.178.x)

    This modem/router connects to a Cisco ASA 5505 (Fastethernet0)

The ASA also server as a DHCP server and NAT gateway for the office and offers vpn connectivity to the other office.

    Online, it looks like this:

    Office 1--> Cisco878--> WAN Cloud<---cablemodemrouter><--- asa5505=""><--- office="">

    IP address ranges:

    Office 1

    Network 192.168.0.0

    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

    Gateway 192.168.0.250

    IP WAN XXXX

    Office 2

    Network 192.168.1.0

    Subnetmak 255.255.255.0

    Gateway 192.168.1.1

    IP WAN XXXX

On the location of office 2, there is a NAT between ASA and WAN router. between 192.168.178.x 255.255.255.0

The modemrouter is a Cisco 3925, on which IPSEC passthrough is enabled.

    Configs:

    Site 1:

    CISCO 878 router

    Site 2

    ASA 5505

I hope someone has a chance to look through my config and tell me what I did wrong this week

Even if you can not help me but still read here: Thank YOU!

    Hello

Ping client customer site 1 site2 and make sh crypto isakmp his and sh crypto ipsec his on the router.

If sh crypto isakmp gives QM_Idle and ping fails and you have no package in the HS cypto ipsec his and then do a debug crypto ipsec

If sh crypto isakmp gives MM_NoState can do a debug crypto isakmp

One note however, you should have ip addresses static at least on the side, initiating the tunnel, otherwise it will not work when ip address changes.

    Kind regards.

    Alain.

  • DeskJet 6940: ethernet connection between the new modem and printer does not transmit Mac

I just installed a new modem to Qwest; It works wirelessly with my iMac 10.11. My old (but functional until yesterday) Deskjet 6940 is connected to the modem via Ethernet. When I try to print, the document seems to be transmitted to the printer, but then it hangs on and I get the message "the printer is not connected" - which it is, plugged, ethernetted, and set in motion. Support of Qwest says that only 10% of the info from the computer are the printer, but he seems to think that the part of the new modem Ethernet is functional,

I have already tried all unplug/restart/send/add printer new check/updates / IP (cannot connect) / ethernet ports and cables, etc.

    Any other ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hi @newgranny,

Thanks for getting back to me.

It is good that the printer has been able to print a diagnostic page.

Ensure that the router and firewall on the market do not block these ports.

    • TCP port: 9100

    Card photo upload:

Follow these steps to reset the printer to factory default settings:

    1. check that the printer is on.

    2. press and hold down the button to report Page.

3 while holding down three times the homepage button, press the Cancel button.

    4. release the report Page button.

If the RIP is not absolutely necessary for you, try adding the default route to R2:

    IP route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.2.1

If you want to use RIP much, add permissions ACL 102:

Your permit for 105 ACL statement should be down is changed to match because it is the most general ACL.

    You currently have:

Extend the 105 IP access list
    5 permit ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 (18585 matches)
    10 deny ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 172.19.206.0 0.0.0.255 connect
    30 deny ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 172.19.203.0 0.0.0.255 connect
    50 deny ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 172.19.209.0 0.0.0.255 connect

    It should be:

Extend the 105 IP access list
    10 deny ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 172.19.206.0 0.0.0.255 connect

    50 deny ip 172.19.194.0 0.0.0.255 172.19.209.0 0.0.0.255 connect

    IP 172.19.194.0 allow 60 0.0.0.255 (18585 matches)

To remove it and add it to the bottom:

    105 extended IP access list

    not 5

    IP 172.19.194.0 allow 60 0.0.0.255 any

Then ' delete ip nat trans. "

    and it should work now.
