Lenovo D20 GTX 1080 SC plus Random closures - also, what are these thermal sensors?

I have a Lenovo D20 workstation, I upgraded my GTX660 to a GTX1080 and started having some weird random offs of the power system.

I bought the card on October 21 to run Civ 6 better, fine installed map and ran for three days without any problem.

The third day, the system itself off the power run game. No BSOD, no warning of any kind, just don't click off.

Done a lot of troubleshooting and seemed to track down for a thermal problem, because once I did a full clean and system fans and back together, everything worked...

Flash forward another 2 weeks, mid-game Civ 6, stop at random one another down. System still clean as a whistle...

It's now a battle since to maintain the system for more than a few days sometimes for a few minutes as it will at the same time more and more.  Last hour of Gears of War 4, exactly the same task.  Thinking it is thermal, I upgraded to something bigger heatsinks (fans work normally same towers / etc), system is now 20 degrees cooler and I still get the random low stop...

Thought that's current partner, if I traded in my PSU I have for my box of spare prod... No effect.

Thought the card was dead, so I traded in my old GTX660, the system worked flawlessly...  Swapped the D20 1080 another that I have here, and it worked perfectly fine solid launch an automated Civ game 3 days...  Swapped the 1080 in my D20, worked for another 3-4 hours, then click power off.

I continue to roaming to heat I have some temporary sensors which seem to put the wrong mistakes, I have one that always is at about 128C called "Remote1" 2 other D20, I have here do not have this sensor, I literally stripped everything out of the box and the sensor "remote1" remains.  Where is it?  (see attached photo)

HW_Monitor shows my CPU nice and cool... SpeedFan shows a CPU @ 31 c and the other at 101 c, the two seem well in HW monitor. Am I an overheating? OR am I not?

Here is my complete listing of the system:

D20

2 x X 5675-3, 06 Ghz

48 GB DDR3 RAM

GTX1080 HC 8GB

LSI/3ware 9650SE RAID card w/5x3TB

Kingston 240 GB SSD (boot drive)

I did the following diagnosis:

Added new radiators - thermal. (Works great with GTX660, not with the 1080).

Re-sitting all the RAM, I even changed a lot.  Memtest passes.

I removed the RAID card and associated hard disks. (I thought that's where they get "Remote1".)  It isn't.).

I tried the two 16 x slots in the system.

I ran a full stress test using the handbrake and P95 to try to make the system draw as much power as possible to stress the CPU/PSU/MEM, wanted to test the GPU at the same time so I ran a civ 5 automated and civ 6 interactive game. It ran for several hours and clicked itself turned off AFTER I had finished the stress on the CPU... (I killed the brake hand and P95 and just got Civ execution).

I swapped the power supply with a known good unit.

I placed the 1080 in a solid known D20 chassis, no problem.

I checked the mobo for swelling / leaks / breath caps. No there that I can see.

I ran the sound system high mode and fan speed used same used maximally all fans, always off System... All time seemed cool except "Remote 1". Read local 66 c.

I changed the bars that I use.

I changed the wall outlets that I use.

I entirely cleaned the system and all associated fans.

I tried ALL video pilots...  I have done so of restorations and clean installs Windows bored me.

Windows provides no newspaper except to say "power has been removed from the system or the system became unresponsive.

BIOS is like a power failure and will reboot the system (once I put it to turn on automatically).

I'm at the point where I'm going to empty the entire chassis and start over again because its so intermittent and so random that I can't pinpoint the problem.  When you look at Speedfan, the a 'CPU' that says its 101 c, when he goes to 110 c, that seems widely when the system will be eager to stop, he stopped at a few times and 115C, but HW_Monitor still reads the CPU is also nice and cool, with cores running between 35-40 degrees Celsius, not anywhere near 100 101 c...

I spent several hours on it and still can't seem to find answers that are concrete...

Someone at - it ideas?  Someone has ideas on what/where all these thermal probes are?

Can someone give me any ideas would be great...

Hello

First of all, thank you guys for getting back to me so fast, I know that you guys must be flooded and I really appreciate your support on my aging material.  You are a credit to your teams.

So I'm in the mode full tinker now, and as I am not under warranty, it is not as if I had nothing to lose = D.

I think I have tracked down the problem - but I said at least 6 times in the last few weeks.

The EVGA GTX SC 1080 has a metal radiator that runs the length of the card, these fins are exposed along the law and the length as a vent along all sides of the map, the side exposed to the door frame and the side which is exposed to the motherboard. There are also a few air holes in the top (bottom?) of the map. When the GTX 1080 is seated in the slot 16 first x, all the heat from the back of the card is discharged directly on the North Bridge heat sink.  This seems to be what it heats up a lot, and why the 660 fact ever, the events don't go anywhere near him.   In fact, I removed my GPU right after a stop down and the NB heatsink was hot touch was a 3 degree burn.

so I tied a 40mm fan on the heatsink to the Northbridge PCI, he turns to 4000-5000 + rpm and managed to cool the heatsink about 30 degrees, it starts as 65 degrees rather than 95 and revolves around 82-85 under a load of game...

I'll keep you posted on the tests.

  • Aurora-R5, SLI Nvidia GTX 1080, 850w PSU enough?

    Hi guys!

The new R5-Aurora looks great, so I'm considering buying one, but I have a question about 1080GTX SLI setting. I would buy the 5 k monitor from Dell (UP2715K) as well. So I'd better feed this beast with the installation of 1080GTX SLI! BUT, I knew the Aurora-R5 only comes with a PSU 850w (power supply unit). Is this enough? On area 51 - R2 page noted that it comes with a 1500w power supply to ensure that the SLI Nvidia GTX 1080 configuration has enough power. So how can the Aurora-R5 works correctly with only 850w?

Useful information for configuring, I would buy:

    6700 K overclocked I7
    32 GB OF RAM
    500SSD + 2 TB
    Blu - Ray read/write
    SLI 1080GTX

    A big thank you!

When you choose one of the processors (i7 - 6700K, i5 - 6600K) K, you will need to choose the power 850w multi-GPU approved with the high Peformance liquid of cooling that can perform one of the following OEM video cards in a dual configuration.

    Nvidia GeForce GTX RTYN6 1080 founders edition, Pascal, 8GB, DVI-D/DP1.4/DP1.4/DP1.4/HDMI 2. 0 b, double/single
    The founders of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 edition 6F651, Pascal, 8GB, DVI-D/DP1.4/DP1.4/DP1.4/HDMI 2. 0 b, double/single
    5NN03 Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti, D17U-40, 6 GB memory GDDR5 DVI-I/DP/DP/DP/HDMI, double/single
    YJ30F Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, 4 GB memory GDDR5 DVI-I/DP/DP/DP/HDMI
    RW8C2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, 4 GB memory GDDR5 DVI-I/DP/DP/DP/HDMI, double/single
    H4P1K Nvidia GeForce GTX 960, 2 GB memory GDDR5 DVI-I/DP/DP/DP/HDMI, double/single
    C58PP Nvidia GeForce GTX 950, 2 GB memory GDDR5 DVI-I/DP/DP/DP/HDMI, double/single
    YX6VC AMD R9 370, RD14D-P1-70, 4 GB memory GDDR5, double/single DVI-I/DVI-D/DP/HDMI

If the user chooses the processors non - K (i7-6700, 6400-i5, i3-6100), they can always choose the multi-GPU 850w power supply and run installation dual video card.

  • Aurora-R4, EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW DT?

    Intel Core I7 - 3930K @ 3, 3.20 GHz 20GHz processor

    RAM: 16 GB

Video cards: GTX in SLI 2 660

My source will give enough power to the GTX 1080, and there the necessary pins

    It's the GTX 1080 I www.evga.com/.../Product.aspx

The PSU Aurora-R4 875w will suffice. Use pin 8 PSU leads P15 and P17. You must open the housing cover and find the POWER cords, they could be returned or bound out of the way when not in use.

  • Upgrade to an Nvidia geforce gtx 1080 on an Alienware Aurora R3

I was wondering if someone could answer the question of would be upgraded to a Nvidia Geforce Gtx 1080 on an Alienware Aurora R3 or if there is no problem of compatibility or even if someone tried it and it works made me know thank you.

    Hello

Is not officially supported, but unofficially it should adapt and work (SINGLE CARD).

  • Reboot Loop/No Boot - Alienware 17R3 - amplifier with Asus GTX 1080 Turbo graphics

I have a new graphics card this week, a Turbo of Asus GTX 1080, but I have questions about the use with the amplifier of graphics.

My laptop is a 17R3 of Alienware.

The Board fits perfectly, there is only a single power connector and it is fastened to the GPU.

When I connect the graphic amplifier and power the laptop it keep turning on/off as an infinite reboot cycle.

Maybe this specific version of 1080 GTX (Asus GTX 1080 Turbo) is not compatible with the graphics amplifier?

My previous video, a 980Ti ACX 2.0 EVGA card works just fine and if I plug this GPU to another computer also works.

I do not think that associates the PSU of GA, but who knows?

Everyone knows who? Has anyone tried this GPU with GA?

    Hi Chris!

Well, I traded Turbo 1080 GTX from Asus to a 1080 GTX from MSI, and now everything works perfectly!

So, I can confirm that the MSI GeForce 1080 Aero 8 G works perfectly with the AGM!

    Thanks for all your support.

    Kind regards

  • Alienware X 51 R3 upgrade for GTX 1080 - Possible?

I want to upgrade my X 51 R3 a GTX 1080, if I have to buy the graphics amplifier for this or would hold the card in the camera itself? Also with would my system specs be possible? I have listed my features below.

    Intel I7 - 6700 K OC'd to 4.4 Ghz

    16GB (2x8GB) 2133 MHz DDR4 Non - Ecc

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (this is what I want to upgrade)

    330W external power adapter

    Windows Pro 10

Stock motherboard (I don't know the model)

    --

    Thanks in advance.

Theoretically, it is possible, however, M Dell-Chris said none of the X-51 series computers will be validated in support of graphics cards from Nvidia series 10 x 0.  I think that the amplifier can, however I can't find the FAQ which has officially declared it.  Nevertheless, I would like to use the amplifier in any case.

  • Alienware 51 R2 and new Geforce GTX 1080 x

    Hello

I would like to ask if I am able to pass on my X 51 R2 the new Geforce GTX 1080 when it comes out without any problem or she will need a few other updates?

    Thank you

There is very little information around that day.

In all likelihood that the 1080 will be the great way for a 51 X, the first cards will be reference cards, and they are usually large and strong. Waiting for some of aftermarkets come out, then find an it is roughly the same size as your current check, the power requirements (which should be OK) and your business in.

In theory, you should be able to maintain the upgrade your GPU until the same major GPU configuration change occurs, your just have to take into account size and power

  • HP z600: HP Z600 & Geforce GTX 1080

    Hello

I would like to know if I can install a Geforce GTX 1080 in a workstation z600?

My power supply is 650W, which seems to be sufficient. I have 2 * 6 pins, so I guess I can add an adapter 8-pin.

    Would this work?

    Thank you.

You get the 10 GB of vRam one?  Who could run a bit hot...

Seems good... today's video cards in particular got a better performance with less power consumption, and nVidia for this card specifications recommend at least a 500W supply, you have easily.  Map establishes maximum of 180 watts, and 75 watts will come to him of the PCIe x 16 slot it is plugged to the.  This leaves 105 watts max to be powered by the additional power cords, which were noted for max 18A 12VDC, everyone in higher end work latest HP positions.  If you want to group two of these cables of 6-pin HP in a single dose of 8 pins for this card (who wants to) you can do it.  However, a 6 pin to 8 pin plug adapter would be enough for one of these cables, HP, but I don't know where HP gets those they document in the documents below.  I prefer to group two of the cables if I couldn't be sure to have an adapter HP - quality 6-8.  I know they exist, but have never seen evidence where get them without having to buy the HP video card with what they had.

Video of your Z600 PCIe x 16 slot is PCIe generation 2 and this card can work according to the PCIe Generation 3 specifications but will work very well in your location of generation 2.  It is has some recent posts here on how much higher power that the extra HP PCIe "6-pin" ATX standards can provide cables.  Even to the point that HP documents show some unique 6-pin 6-pin double adapters, and a few 6-simple PIN to 8 pin adaptors above.  Here is a link that includes extra cable HP power/6 pin PCIe for the Z620 info and I am sure that the Z600 also has these cables well above the ATX standard too... • Camera Raw GPU acceleration (Nvidia GTX 1080) support

    Hello

I had the problem, which is no acceleration in Camera Raw - he says "currently disabled' - in the Preferences menu and Bridge > Camera Raw preferences.
In Photoshop, everything is OK, the GPU acceleration is enabled and it detects gpu GTX 1080.

I got the latest nvidia drivers and updated Camera Raw plugin.

My profile: graphics card MSI GTX 1080 of MSI X 99 motherboard, cpu 5820 k, running 64-bit Windows 10. Button previous GTX 970 and card 550ti had the same problem
Is there a solution? 36mpix files of my DSLR D810 loading very slow in Camera Raw :/

I also uninstalled all 3rd party software for overclocking, everything is now enabled by default.

I've heard that going back to the old driver solves the problem, but when I try to install (361,43 and other drivers) system does not detect the video card (which is correct - 1080 a look in 2016)

Thanks for your comments! Take care

OK, I tried to install win 7 ultimate and own adobe install and everything is OK - camera raw now see processor gpu and it helped.

    Hello ccsmudge,

Often, we see crashes as a result of a program from loading at startup.
To solve these, we use the clean boot troubleshooting.
    The following describes this process:

In addition, if you can zip the contents of the c:\Windows\minidump folder and put it on a public folder to http://skydrive.live.com , then we can take a peek to see if and why we are bluescreening and restart all of a sudden.

  • 860 - 170vr: updated to the NVIDIA GTX 1080

I wait with updating the 860-170VR with the gtx nvidia GPU 1080. I would like to update the model that comes stock with the AMD Radeon™ R9 390 X 8 GB GDDR5 FH GF. Please let me know if that's ok.

    Greetings,

You good to go. But check that your PC can accommodate a 10.5 inch graphics card. HP requires sometimes manufacturers change the specification of the graphics cards so that they adapt and work in the towers of HP.  A stock 390 is nearly 11 inches in length.

Make sure you completely uninstall the graphics drivers AMD and the software before installing the 1080. Also disable secure boot and turn on the old boot in the BIOS. I am running a 970 on Win 7 Pro and the turn off the quick start.

The 1080 is slightly shorter in length compared to the 390 and requires less or equivalent to run power.

You have a 600 Watt power supply and that your PC has a UEFI BIOS.

    I also want to install a 1080 in a 810-150se desire.

I'm waiting for EVGA release this map. It requires 215 Watts. Other 1080's require only 180 watts.

    See you soon!
