  I have a Lenovo Y580 and I had a few questions about the physical limits, since they are not where under the technical specifications of the laptop (unless I'm wrong or overlooking something).

  First of all, I want to know if I'm allowed to upgrade the RAM as well install a mSATA drive without voiding the warranty?

  Secondly, I was wondering if there is a way to determine if the port mSATA is 6 Gbps or 3 Gbps.

  Third, how can I find the limit of the RAM of the machine. I was hoping to put 32 gb of RAM, but if it only holds 16 GB, I wouldn't mind that either.

  If anyone knows these answers, please let me know.

  1. Yes, as long as you don't break anything by mishandling.

  2. it is reported in the system as 6 Gbit/s, but I do not know why, in some benchmarks (for example HD tune) she's not going more than ~ 350 MB/s. Anyway, there is no reason to worry about this. You won't notice a difference, anywhere but the benchmarks and some rare, extreme situations.

  3. I have 2 x 4 GB DDR - 1866 and it works beutfifully. Many people updated 16 GB without problem. There are no commercially available 16GB DDR3 SODIMM sticks. I don't know how you're using your laptop, but keep in mind that most of the users don't need more than 8 GB of RAM. There is no gain in addition large amount of RAM unless you actually use the large amounts of RAM.

  Just got my refurbished Lenovo Y580 model in. It supposed to come with SSD of 32 GB and 1 TB hdd ordinary. But my disk manager partition C: WINDOWS7_OS with 29.7 GB maximum and D: LENOVO with 29.2 GB maximum. Please help, thanks

  Thanks for posting. To be honest, that is not a specific type of screwdriver I recommend you buy to open the machine. Personally the time machine, that I personally use one ' ' Phillips type screw of the standard precision screws drivers collection 6 pieces I have. However, if I tried a screwdriver with a magnetic head. That really helped get the machine back together.

• Optical problem Lenovo Y580

  Hi there everyone,

  So I'll be quick on my problem to go straight to the point. I installed Windows 8 to Dreamspark to try to update my system, may be faster. After the installation of the OS, I had problems after problems, including performance was extremely terrible!

  So I used my restore DVD to return to Windows 7 Pro. Now, I've updated all my drivers Lenovo Web sites and Intel, that not all drivers Lenovo has seemed to work.

  I never noticed before, but my light optical (digital sound, the red one on the side 3.5 mm plug right hand) is still on. IM pretty good with computers, but nothing that I don't seem to turn it off. Is it supposed to be on? Seems rather pointless if its still on.

  I guess I'm looking for assistance on this topic. I tried to disable the hardware, change of drivers... Ideas now. Any help is appreciated.

  I managed to get the drivers to work. I was about to try to install the drivers manually, but then I got the idea to try the XP drivers. BAM, they worked. I have no idea why XP drivers worked, but the pilots of 7 or 8 do not have.

  It seems that my hard drive is in very poor condition. I can't start or do something with it.

  Partitions 1, 3 and 4 are readable using the partition 2 (partition Windows), command prompt (890 ~ GB) is not readable. CHKDSK has not helped either. His State of health is red.

  I can put my Shuffle back through a few images from time to time, and a day or two before, I turned on my laptop and my experience has not changed.   If nothing does, then maybe it's motherboard is gone or this AC plugg on the motherboard is broken, causing the power not to enter fully at all but I doubt it would be if the light comes on for a few seconds, then turns off so it sounds more like a motherboard problem if the power adapter is cause of it.

  Just do a clean on my Z580 install, when it came to install the bluetooth driver, I got the message, it is not found, I got it on my laptop working the Fn + F5 key displays the selection without wire screen and I clicked on bluetooth on, I think that this toggle bluetooth on so that the drivers can see , it worked for my still.
