  George,

  When Lightroom opens a catalog file, it creates a "lock" file in the same directory as the catalog. When you have had your accident, has not deleted the file. All you need to do is to find and delete it and everything will be fine, probably. :)

  You must go to the location where your Lightroom Catalog is stored and delete folder Previews.lrdata (not the .lrcat file)

  By default, it is stored in the Pictures\Lightroom folder.
