Limiting access wireless from a business

I have a company where I offers free Wi - Fi.  The only problem is that the people in the surrounding community are using my connection and slowing to a crawl.  I tried to set a password, but then it seems that bypasses and I'm back to the beginning.  Is other than to change the password every day there anything else I can do to limit people, that I don't want on my network?  Can I possibly limit the scope of the signal?  My router is a former model, WRT54GS.

Also, is it possible to implement a guest with a WRT54GS environment or is it simply an option in the most recent routers.

Thank you

Mark

You can try limit the DHCP range, you can find it on the Setup > Basic Configuration: maximum number of DHCP users

and you can Manage which users by: status > Local network: Table of DHCP Clients (you can delete an unauthorized user)

or you can even set to disable DHCP on your router, so each client who wants to join, have to set a static IP address for their PC (a bit more), but I think that this way is not too effective, given that your network password may be spread so easily , I do not think that your network address (192.168.xx.xx) will be different... > _

I think the best way is to change the daily lives of password,

but the most convenient way is to buy the router series E, because even if they can access the guest account, they can't mess with your Local network... Access invited, is the one who make a huge different in my opinion ^ ^

  • Wireless Internet with 'limited access '.

I tried to connect my new laptop Dell Vista to our network wireless at home. After many unsuccessful attempts (due to an unknown "logon doamin") I was finally able to connect to our server, however, with "limited access". Despite having "limited access" internet still does not work. Is anyway to solve this? We currently have two other laptops that work well on the wireless network.

    Hello

Your router could be suspicious here, you have successfully updated its firmware as a possible solution? And I would like to
Update your WiFi drivers on computers. How you are positioned in the router? Are there
obstacles in the path? Make sure that the computer is trying to connect to the correct router as there may be
    another strong signal near her.

Other Vista computers? You use the WPA/WPA2 security?

Actually try updating your driver and disabling the network logon. Use a wired connection or download
pilots on another machine and transfer on removable media.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

Repeat for card (NIC) network and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as Vista like

I would also turn off auto update for the drivers. If the updates Windows suggests a just HIDE as they

  • limited access - connection Wireless error

Computer my son has worked well, but with some difficulty getting enough 'strong' connection for several months.

Then, suddenly, we get an error 'Limited access' on the wireless connection. We have experienced countless challenges, including the suggestions here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/windows-7-occasionally-drops-the-wireless/e834b67f-12ae-4b3c-aa13-af27553350bd?auth=1 but without success.

Is a strange, because it shows that it has a connection, when I use the ping, I can see that 25% of the packages they do and from the wireless router (Yes, I recognize that 100% should make the trip), and we can not explain behavior, I can put my laptop in the same place and write this extended ad. We can look at the network and sharing Center and see the network come and go from this computer.

In addition, we tried to update the driver (he says he has the most recent version) and have resorted to here for assistance.

We've been on Windows 7 all the time, and he claims that it has not installed any new application (the download and installation of privileges are limited), so I don't think that it is the source of the problem.

If anyone can say, we would be grateful for help.

    Ok

did a system restore full of a checkpoint 5 days ago and was able to get the system.

Thanks for this feature. Explanation is still a mystery.

  • Satellite L645 - problem with Internet connectivity Wireless 'limited access '.

    Hi all

I recently bought a Satellite L645 laptop, however, there is a big problem. Whenever I connect to a wireless network, it will connect in a minute, he removes the connections and said "limited access", he could return by being connected but then back with limited access, so. However, when the laptop is connected to an ethernet internet cable works. I checked and the driver is updated, it is a defective material? software? is there something I can do? Help, please...

    Thank you.

    Hello

    Here the material is ok.
You must disable for the Wlan to save energy.
You can do it in 7 QL power management.
In addition, go to-WLan card-> properties > Device Manager
You will find a named tab to save energy. You should uncheck the option here that allows the computer turn off the Wlan device to save energy.

I can't access internet wirelessly from my laptop because I installed a new printer which is now connected to my router, is - it related somehow?

    Hello

    1. what happens when you use a wired connection?

    2. how many devices are connected to the router?

This can happen if you connect that a specific number of device to the router, and when it exceeds the limit. You can consult the router's manual or contact the manufacturer of the router to check if all the parameters must be changed to connect several devices.

  • Limited access: problems

This is probably one of the most annoying problems can have a laptop in which I for example in the middle of an online game and all of a sudden the game started crashing and I finally limited access. To resolve this problem, I need to solve the problems which takes 3-4 minutes and sometimes even 7 if the problem requires a lot of work to solve the problems. Now this annoys me a lot and I searched for a solution but could not find. Please help me I really hate this problem.

    Hi Omar,.

Please answer the questions below to help you best.

    1. What browser do you use to access the games online?
    2. You did changes to the computer before the show?

The error message can be caused by several things. This error message may also be displayed when, in fact, you are already connected to the Internet. If this is the case, you can ignore the error message.

To disable the error message, follow these steps.

    1. Control Panel open network connections.
    2. Double-click Local area connection, and then click Properties.
    3. On the general tab, clear the checkbox Notify me when this connection is limited or no connectivity .
    4. Click OKand then click close.

Also, I suggest you run the network troubleshooter, and check the result-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-networking-troubleshooters

You can also check the status of the driver/adapter wireless network card and try to update the driver if necessary.

Follow the steps to check the NIC in Device Manager:

    1. Click Startand then click Control Panel.
    2. Click system and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note: If Control Panel is in Classic view, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    3. Network adapter, expand network card, right-click on the devices listed. Here, you will get the listed device.
Check if you have no point of exclamation or cross alongside the devices listed. If you have, then there is problem with the card is installed.

Refer to the below mentioned link to update the drivers manually from the manufacturer's Web site.

    Hi Jerry,

    Please, try the following steps:

    Method 1:

You can click on diagnose to see if it shows the error message at the time of diagnosis.

The diagnostic button is the screenshot you sent for the status of the Ethernet.

    Method 2:

    Reset the TCP/IP stack.

One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a package of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or altered. If you can't connect to the Internet and you have tried all other methods to solve the problem, TCP/IP can be causing it.

TCP/IP is a main component of Windows, you cannot delete it. However, you can reset TCP/IP to its original state by using the NetShell (netsh) utility.

The reset command is available in the context of the NetShell utility IP. Follow these steps to use the reset command to reset TCP/IP manually:

    a. open an command prompt, press the Windows key + X select prompt as an administrator.

    b. When the user account control box pops up, click on Yes.
    c. at the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) that follows the command, and then press ENTER:

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

    d. Note: If you do not specify a path of the directory for the log file, use the following command:

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    c. restart the computer.

    d. When you run the reset command, it rewrites two registry keys that are used by TCP/IP. This has the same result as the removal and the reinstallation of the Protocol. The reset command rewrites the following two registry keys:

    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters
    .

    e. to run the manual command, you must specify a file name for the log, in which the action takes netsh is recorded. When you run the manual command, TCP/IP is reset and the actions that have been taken are recorded in the log file, called resetlog.txt

    Method 3:

Uninstall and reinstall the device adapter NIC from Device Manager can help.
