  Thanks, just loaded iStumbler and Yes ADR mac for the sid that I configured is as expected. The linksys SID has a different macaddr so it must be a neighbor who has an open wireless router.

• Linksys bridge to extend your wireless Signal

  I just installed a Linksys WRT160N router. The signal started of good about 50 to 70 feet of the location of routers. Now the signal is part as low in many, 54 Mbps. I was wondering what options I might have to install a wireless for the expansion of the signal bridge. I configured a network encrypted with WPA2. Any advice would be appreciated to help me buy the right bridge. Also, I wonder what would be the technical difficulty to install and configure. I have configure the WRT160N myself if it means something.

  I updated the firmware on routers to the latest version. He used the firmware from 2007. I have udated the Intel wireless adapter to a newer version of the driver. I choose channel 8 in the range of 2.4 Gig for the router and choose channel 8 for the adapter.  I increased a couple of options for the adapter wireless beyond the default option. I don't have that options a, B and G for the adatper, no N option. I guess that you may not have everything. Now the signal is very good (54 Mbit/s) and I always use WPA2-Personal.   I just installed a Linksys WRT54GS router on my connection, the problem I have is to be able to access with my wireless on my laptop.

  I kept getting a message saying 'connection unindentified' 'access '. I did most of what is already on your forum that such a power out of my rooter, my modem and such and still nothing. I am able to access wireless with my girlfriend Mac laptop, my playstation 3 and my desktop computer which uses Windows X. I initially thought that it my be a problem with my security but even when the connection is unprotected I still have this error. I am trying to disable the IpV6but that didn't ' dot something or the other.

  My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X 300 PQX32C-033019 with Vista and my router is a Linksys WRT54GS to. 6

  Try this-

  Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER...
  Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...
  For wireless settings, follow these steps: -.
  Click on the Wireless tab
  -Here, select manual configuration... Wireless network mode must be mixed...
  -Provide a unique name in the name box of the wireless network (SSID) in order to differentiate your network from your network of neighbors...

  Problem solved on the Forum of Qwest. The modem must be changed to use "a transparent bridging. The the WRT54G must be changed from automatic DHCP to PPPoE.

  Public static IP and Port Forwarding have nothing to do with this issue.

• Wireless router to modem Homeportal 1800 HG 2wire Linksys WRT54G with questions

  I have the Linksys WRT54G, and I'm trying to use it as the router to my modem 2wire Homeportal 1800 HG wireless.  The 2wire has four ethernet Sockets in the back marked from 1 to 4 and a telephone jack to connect to the wall for AT & T DSL service.

  I have the phone jack connected, and:

  -an ethernet cable

  -to one of the sockets at the back of the 2wire ethernet

  -to the 'Internet' on the Linksys ethernet jack

  - and an ethernet cable

  -to one of the ethernet (1-4) at the back of the linksys

  -to the ethernet port on the computer

  The Linksys is unable to connect via the modem and reports that it may not get an IP address from the PPPoE server.  (Directly connect to the 2wire works well though.)

  Who am I wrong configuration?

  There is no side effect of bridge mode... It is one of the mode in which the modem function. When the modem is in bridge mode, you cannot go online with the computer connected directly to the modem... and you will get a 169.254.x.x ip address.

  So after you convert the modem into bridge mode, you must do the PPPoE settings on the router to go online via router.

• EA 6200 wireless signal disappears momentarily and returns

  I have a 6200 EA (EA6200), new with a computer, an apple TV and 4 Iphones/Ipads, all within walking distance.

  My problem: every once in a while, the wireless signal disappears for a minute or two and then returns to normal.

  During the navigation of the user interface, I was unable to find out if there is an event log to show what is happening, so that I'm flying blind.

  Which never happened with my much more old linksys wireless adapter.

  Hi elnuevohomero,

  This may be caused by interference. Ensure that the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks have different SSID. Try changing channels as well.
  You can try using 6,3,9 or 1. It is also recommended to place the router on a higher location, where it can broadcast wireless signal properly.

  I have the wrt54g router and if you set the 'disabled' wireless settings which means that WiFi is disabled, which stops the router actually send wireless signals?

  I guess my question is do the WiFi compatible routers send wireless signals even if you "turn off" the WiFi option on your router? Thank you.

  The WRT54G is an active wireless router. If you select off in the wireless tab then the router will not any signal wireless broadcast.

The signal strength is Ok in the first room, but 2nd room in front of the House (30 feet and two walls away) it is 3 bars to nothing all the time. We have a guest who stay with us two days a week. There has never been a problem with the signal strength of the e1000 for recent years, but the v2 e4200 behaves like a piece of * beep *. I spent over 60 minutes with an online support person whose answer was to upgrade the firmware (which of course now removes a direct access to the router via the browser.)

  I hope that someone knows what I need to do to make this work, or it goes back to Amazon and I'll buy another brand of dual band N router.

  I searched the forums, discover different cascading routers and posed this question in a different way, but I don't know if I'll be able to use a 2nd WRT300N in order to broadcast a wireless signal if I connect it to my 1st WRT300N.   1. you're not technically a wireless router but only one wireless access point. A WAP610N or similar would be the better choice in this case.

  2. you can use a router as a simple access point and ethernet switch. Change the address LAN IP of the second WRT to 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.1. Disable the DHCP server on the second WRT. Then, connect the two LAN - LAN. Do not use the internet port of the second WRT!

  I have a wrt160n my main router cascading to one e1200 to the other end of my house. The idea was to improve wireless signal here. Has passed through a long discussion with Cisco support settnig system upward.

  IP address of the e1200 occupies more than 5 outside main router, dhcp is disabled. Connection bewtween routers is Wan to Wan.

  I wired the e1200 but no signal wireless signal. Any ideas?

  You mentioned that there is a WAN - WAN connection. Is your E1200 a version 2 router? If the wireline work, the wireless should work as well. Were you able to configure the settings of you before Wireless 2 routers cascade? Did you use the same network names? If you have done so, turn off the WRT160N and leave the E1200 power and see if it is broadcasting. Otherwise, you will need to access the router's interface again and adjust the wireless channels.

  My WRT54GS (v6) does NOT run any DD - WRT or OpenWRT f/w but it is running original LinkSys f/w (1.52.8).

  I want to know the following:

  (1) do I need to connect the LAN of router LinkSys LAN Port of Verizon ActionTec port? Or can I connect to LAN_port of Verizon ActionTec WAN_port of LinkSys?

  (2) do I need to disable the DHCP server on LinkSys?

  (3) can I create an additional SSID (with friendly passwd) on LinkSys for allow comments access this SSID while I access my original SSID of ActionTec?

  Hi kamdard. You can actually set up the WRT54GS as a wireless network completely different from the one you are currently configuring it with a different name and a different password. If you want the host computers or wireless devices behind the WRT54GS to be able to communicate with the computers behind the ActionTec router then you can follow the method from LAN to LAN. If this isn't the case, then follow the LAN WAN configuraiton.

  Only, you will need to disable DHCP on the ActionTec if you follow the method from LAN to LAN.

  For easy setup, I have personally, suggest that you follow the LAN WAN config. This means that you connect the Ethernet cable between the LAN of your Action Tec port WAN or the Linksys router's Internet port. In this way, you don't have to disable DHCP in the WRT54GS and to access its configuration page via 192.168.1.1 anytime.

  Furthermore, what is the IP address of your router, ActionTec? If it is on 192.168.1.1, too, you may need to change the local IP address of the router Linksys 192.168.2.1. Once done, access the configuration of the WRT54GS page and customize the wireless network and the wireless password.

  Also, before all configurations, it's better reset the unit to default settings. It is done by pressing the reset button at the back of the routerfor 30 seconds while the power is on. Release the button and unplug the unit.

  I have a router wireless of linksys WRT54G hard wired to a mac and I use the router to get your laptop online. Everything works beautifully. Now I have an iphone that I want to be able to use the same network on. When I turn on my iphone it finds the router which of course requires a password. I'm going in what I think is the password and it is denied. I am able to connect to the Web page of the router and access all my settings. On the administration tab, there is a place to change the password. I changed this and entered a new password, but the only thing that changes is the password that is used to get access to the web page of Linksys. (the web page that I can enter to change and access settings) am I wrong to think this would be the same password to my iphone application?

  Yes, it's the wrong password.  Look under your security settings wireless / wireless and you will find the password requested.  This will be a key/paraphrase or password depending on the encryption you put in place.
