  Have you installed security software after formatting windows?

  If so, you can uninstall the security software temporarily and check if you receive the access violation error.

  My hard drive failed completely and was unrecoverable. I replaced the HD and reinstalled Windows 8.1 and it activated successfully. Windows prompted me to upgrade to Windows 10 I tried and after it installed, he refused to activate saying that is not a valid digital license. It gives the 0x803F7001 error code.   I managed to get in touch with someone at Microsoft, which has provided a new key and now I have the problem solved. It would have been nice if if HP provided a way to communicate with them on this particular type of problem.

  I recently had a problem starting (BSOD) and sa is now fixed by repairing my installation of Windows XP from a CD from Dell (because I didn't want to lose all my Documents and programs and settings using the Toshiba Recovery CD) and now I have a problem with Activation.

  Toshiba send me a CD of Windows XP (not a recovery CD) for me so I can activate it?

  Hello Stephen,

  I don't think you can get a cd from Microsoft Windows XP to Toshiba, because they are only allowed to provide an OEM XP using the recovery CD system. If you want a real Windows XP cd, you can buy yourself.

  My problem is similar, computer purchased new August 2015 win 7 pro, end worked until this week. Now he says that my copy of windows is not genuine.

  If your machine is licensed for WIndows XP, it's not what interests us here.  You used not only someone elses CD (if it was the same edition / version of Windows XP that was installed before the questions, that part is fine) but someone elses product key.

  Being a laptop - it should have a CoA sticker on the laptop (usually bottom) that specifies what OS came with it and the product key.  Have you this?

  Since you seem to have a Dell (not many companies use the term "service tag") - if it comes with Windows XP, you'd say CoA sticker with the name of the product and the product key to this topic on this laptop.  You can even use this Service tag on the web page of Dell for information on what this laptop had TI / on it when he left - possibly the operating system.

  I suggest that you look for the sticker to confirm and verify the operating system you have installed and the operating system it says game.  You can use the serial number to search for what the system comes with the Dell web page, if my hypothesis about what you have is correct (and if the service tag/express service code is still intact - I suspect that the CoA sticker is too).  If you want (there no harm in it, I assure you) message number service here and someone else here can look up too.
