Linux Mint - no adjusting brightness on Satellite L45-B4182SM

Hello world

I recently bought a L45-B4182SM and I switched from Windows to Linux Mint 17 8.1. Everything seems to work properly. However, brightness (F3 and F3 keys) control do not work. I would like to know if anyone has faced this problem before, and if it is possible to fix it.

Say hello to everyone.

Hello

Under the windows keys F feature is controlled by special tool designed by Toshiba Toshiba utility feature key.
As far as I know Toshiba does not support Linux so these tools does not exist for Linux operating systems.

I m not Linux user, but I guess that there must be another (Linux option) option for the brightness adjustment.

Problem, it's that Toshiba does not support Linux so you will not be able to find lots of information about Linux on Toshiba laptops.

Try to check some Linux forum. You may be able to get a useful tip to other Linux users.

  • L50-b-24 x satellite overheating (Linux Mint)

    Hello
my new laptop (where I removed Windows and installed Linux Mint) has a big problem of overheating.
The temperature suddenly reached peaks of 70-80 c, even when the pc is idle. Then only I can hear fan spinning.
I tried to change the configuration of grub as well, as suggested:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi ="Linux"" "

This seems to bring a small improvement: there are less frequent peaks, but they are always there...
    Any suggestion?

    Hello

This device is an i7 with external graphic.
The two components will generate heat when used.

You can check if there is a single process that pic when your temp goes up.
You may disable any background service... ?

As for AMD, you use the source driver full or closed?
In any case, it may be useful test the other (change what you use to another).
Maybe that can reduce the production of heat?

Ultimately, check the version of the kernel.
Kernel is currently at 4.3. Some interesting changes AMD has been implemented since 4.2.
Don't think they are related cooling, but maybe it's worth a try.

  • Portege R700-17Z - Linux Mint suspend related questions

Hello. I've been running Linux (Mint 12, 64) successfully on the cell above. Only nagging problem, is that the brightness adjustment does not work once the machine went to suspend and vice versa. He also seems to be a problem related to hang with one of the USB ports.

I hope that an update of the BIOS to 2.20 could improve things. T it?
I found two versions of the BIOS. There is a stand alone ISO dated Jan 2012 you can be burned on a CD and the computer restarts from there. However, the README file. TXT, said
    README FILE. CDC TXT 2012-01-23
    ACPI BIOS Flash version 2.20 for Portege R700/R705 (* PT310U/PT311U/PT314U *)

Does anyone know if it is safe and if it works the upgrade to this BIOS that does not seem to include PT310E? ("E" stands for Europe and "U" for the United States?)

Second option is to try to http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20120207132338.zip whose support site allows in what concerns the P310E. I have to install Windoze 7 on another drive hard (I deleted it from my drive) and run this update of windows (I think it's necessary).

Any ideas, I would be grateful...

    Hello Velastin

As you probably know Toshiba doesn't support Linux and all updates, including updates to the BIOS, are offered for better functionality with operating system Windows. To be honest I have don t think that this update of the BIOS can help you, in your ad, the issues described.

Have you tried to exchange their experiences on some Linux specific forum.

  • Impossible to install its driver under WXP SP3 on Satellite L45-SP2046

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba Satellite L45-SP2046, which was brought to Australia, from Chile. There is a requirement to work having WXP rather than Vista (also installed Vista was in Spanish), that's why I installed Windows XP Home edition. I bought the license for XP SP3 and installed this. Only problem is the sound card.

I got different drivers for this version of the L45 from a site in Spanish. The driver is apparently required for the sound is realtek driver. The problem is that I can t get the audio driver to install. I followed the entire instructions came with the driver. When windows asks you, click Cancel, and then use the installer provided. It did not work. I also tried the method of turning off then uninstall the driver of bus UAA and unknown device, then reinstall the driver from realtek. It has also didn t work. I tried several times and even restored the machine straight to the installation point and started again without success.

Then I thought that I would check that it was the right card, so I booted in Linux on live CD and ran "lspci". It reported the card to be + "Intel Corporation 82801 G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller" + which is apparently Intel and maybe a connexant chipset? So I downloaded and tried to force the installation of the connexant driver, using all above methods. I understand that maybe it's just the chipset.

After a day of googling and trying different methods, I'm stuck.

I had this problem on another computer desktop and successful to get around it myself, but not this time. Can someone please help me understand how to install the audio driver on this laptop on XP Service Pack 3?

    Thank you
    Keith

    Hello

I don't know if this will help, but try to install KB888111 and KB835221 patches. I don't know if they are part of the SP3 but try it
After you install both of them try again to install the audio driver downloaded from US support page. I just hope that the books for North and South America are quite similar.

One last thing. Have you used CD Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3 integrated facilities or you have installed SP3 later. When later, at what stage in the installation of Windows XP Home edition?

  • VMWare Workstation 12 and 18 of Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04) and vmware tools or open-vmware-tools

I created a new virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build-3770994 with a guest OS from Linux Mint 18 (which is built on top of Ubuntu 16.04). I have two monitors on my system, the two 2560 x 1440. I am unable to get this virtual machine Linux Mint 18 to cover all of my two monitors when I disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my vm settings, I get an error. I have another Linux Mint 17 VM running on the same VMWare Workstation 12 on the same host machine from Windows 10 and it is able to expand on my two monitors very well with "Accelerate 3D graphics" disabled, but he does not open-vmware-tools.

I have read instructions telling me to install open-vm-Tools-Office in this guest operating system of Linux Mint 18. I did it. Then I restart the guest operating system. When starting, I can click on 'Enter full screen mode' in my menu of VMWare Workstation, and the guest OS has a monitor as expected. When I then click on "Cycle multiple monitors", I get the following error. "The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected screen layout. If you add a monitor to the host computer, you must turn off and turn on the virtual machine to use this monitor. »

    vmware-monitors-error.jpg

I can optimize my VM to automatic adjustment, only one of my two screens, but not both. I tried to uninstall and reinstall open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and restart. I tried to use /vmware-tools-distrib/vmware-install.pl's original vmware tools and who does not work either.

In my vmware.log, I get these two lines that occur when I get the above error.

When I activate "Accelerate 3D graphics" with the configuration described above, I am able to use both of my monitors. Why is this the case?

I think remember having to disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my Linux Mint 17 comments vm because it would crash randomly. I try to run this VM Linux Mint 18 with 3D acceleration and see if it crashes, but why is there a difference with spanning multiple monitors?

    Thank you.

I didn't experience this problem for a few weeks. I don't have a definitive answer to my original problem.

I installed Mate instead of cinnamon 3 to my MINT 18. Then, I created a new VM with Ubuntu Gnome 3 16.04 running as the OF. I did have problems with both approaches. I also tried using Firefox as my main browser instead of Chrome, as I read that Chrome can have problems of memory. It could be a combination of several of these changes that have allowed me to work without problems.

Knowing what I know now, I think the move away from cinnamon 3 is what seems to have fixed my problems. I can certainly say that you use Firefox consumes less memory, as I can monitor the monitor system under Ubuntu. Chrome would eventually eat all my system memory, that I could see. The extent of the why? I'm not sure at this point.

What could be the cause of Thunderbird to set as the favorite in Linux Mint 17.2 browser client. If I reset it to Firefox, the next time I open Thunderbird, it still resets the preferred setting Thunderbird client. When I open Firefox, it pops up a window saying that this isn't the default browser, asking if I want to change. When I click Yes, any link I clicked in Thunderbird previously will now appear in new tabs.

    How can I fix it?

Linux Mint just put update to Firefox_41.0 + linuxmint2 + rafaela and now Firefox works fine with Linux Mint.

  • How to install check speller of the Serbian language in Linux Mint

Hello, I use Thunderbird 31.6.0 on my Linux Mint 17. I tried to follow the instructions that are on this web site to install dictionaries new Auditors of spelling, but it does not work. It is said that it is not available for my platform. However on my Windows computer it says that this version is not supported. In the comments of this page in someone explained workaround. You need to download the add-on, rename the .zip extension, unzip it and copy the files unpacked in C:/Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird/dictionaries. I did and it worked!

Is it possible to do a similar thing with Thunderbird for Linux Mint?

I wanted to do the same trick but I didn't know where is the Linux dictionaries folder.
I did some research on Google and understand. So here's how to do it:

    1. go on here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/%D1%81%D1%80%D0%BF%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8-%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA-serbian-dictiona/

    2. right click > save link as
    3. you will get a file as, rename the file and be sure to make it .zip
    4. unzip the
    5. in this new folder as you open dictionaries folder and copy all the files you have there
6 open your file manager and go to/usr/lib/firefox/dictionaries
7 stick y files you just cope, you do need to root premison to do so then right click in the window > open as root and then paste it

That's it, you'll have dictionaries for Firefox and Thunderbird.

  • Hello from Firefox with camera backwards (with linux Mint 17)

Hello, I am running Firefox 36.0.1 and I tried the new addon from Hello. Unfortunately, my camera is displayed upside down. It was the same problem I had using Skype and I had to update libv4l and that worked. It still works now for Skype, but Hello the problem is back. (I use linux Mint 17)
    Any suggestion?

Skype and Gtalk for linux are 64-bit by default, but Firefox is a 32-bit program (for now). LD_PRELOAD = /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so will not solve this problem in Hello because it is a 64-bit library.

Using /v4l1compat.so is the right idea, but that error "cannot open shared object file" comes from the kernel and not from Firefox. "Cannot open shared object file" means that the file is not there or that your user name is not allowed to read. Verify the path and permissionsv4l1compat.so (after checking that the library is there and that it has the appropriate permissions) and then try to run: LD_PRELOAD = / usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so/usr/bin/firefox
