  • S10 - 3 c and Linux

Is the S10 - 3 c incompatible with all versions of Linux? Lenovo can highlight a distribution custom of Fedora 15/16, 11/12 OpenSuSE or Ubuntu - 11 and following?

All - the solution to the question!

Apparently the updated BIOS for the S10 - 3 c is incomplete if you download on the Lenovo site and you download the 3CCN16WW.zip file (found after a quick google search) and update the BIOS according to the instructions below:

    (1) unzip the file
    (2) in the unzipped folder, click Open the first folder, and run the application. It's the American Megatrends screen, that updates the BIOS
    (3) open the second folder, click Open (as an administrator if you use Win7), the executable file and Flash your BIOS & reboot.

    Note:
    (1) best to remove admin passwords for login passwords or user passwords.
    (2) incase you already have BIOS update 3CCN16WW, it does not need to worry or any reason to downgrade (if possible) because I got the BIOS update from the .exe file, the official page of Lenovo's online.

An hour later, I have this type of an 'update of packages' Ubuntu 11.04

  • Lenovo G510 Linux - system freeze downloading complete

My Lenovo G510, with Qualcomm Atheros AR8172/8176/8178 Fast Ethernet Controller, almost constantly completely freezes when downloading via ethernet on Linux. In Windows 7, it works perfectly, so it's not a hardware problem. I tried various Linux distributions, 32 and 64-bit (Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04, Linux Mint Debian Edition, Fedora 20 etc.) -all behave in the same way. It always happens when you download large files (like a linux iso file) and sometimes even during the download of the smallest (such as trying to install applications of deposits online, or even try to update the repository of the respective linux distribution database). When freezing occurs, the system becomes completely insensitive, I can't yet move to another virtual terminal.

I would try a bios update, but there is a newer version of the bios for my model on the lenovo site, it says that it's only for Windows 8 and 8.1 - which I do not, and I fear that it could interfere with the functionality of my Windows 7 operating system.

How to solve this problem so that I am able to use linux, do you have advice?

Update the bios to Version 79CN50WW (V3.09) solved the problem. Now it works perfectly.

    http://download.Lenovo.com/Consumer/mobiles/viwgq309.exe

I don't know about you, but the update to the bios may need to be executed under Windows 8 or 8.1. I ran under 8.1.

  • Dual boot Linux and XP on Lenovo 3000 J205

I have a 3000 j205 (I think. It says on the tag 9686-A12) and one of my friends set up to dual boot with XP that cannot access internet and Susa, which works well. I called customer service and was told that since my mother bought the machine (she died a year from Cancer) that they could only talk to him. It is a Vista box that has never worked directly for her (she dropped out after 3 months of trying to make it work, technical support to come and even my brother and children trying to run more than 20 minutes on the net) I realized that running the network card drivers for XP are missing. He sees even the router wireless in the line and the Comcast cable modem, but he always swears that the internet isn't here. Any ideas? The Vista of origin had the same problem trying to access the net.

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-69024

If the machine came originally with Vista, then there probably the Marvell ethernet driver.

Scroll to network and you'll see the listed Marvell ethernet driver.

    See if it works.

  • Desktop Lenovo settings version

    Hello

I recently purchased the lenovo y50-70. I plan to do a new installation of windows 8.1 pro edition detail.

So all the essential drivers are already included in my drive D, then thanks to lenovo for this. However, I would like to install the software of lenovo on my new copy settings. I just tried the subway version and it contains all the useful features. Unfortunately I can't find a download link for this anywhere.

So what can I do to take a configuration for Lenovo desktop settings? If I search for the hidden using a linux live cd recovery partition, I'll be able to find it? Or is there anyway I can retrieve this configuration of the recovery image, or download it somewhere?

    Thank you

Well, it's news to me at least. Don't the have not seen it before. This program has something more than fast Panel in the application of ModernUI?

After some research, I found a reference to the location of the program InstallShield, you can save it to a temporary device and run after you have reinstalled Windows.

Check the following locations for the installation package:

    C:\Program InstallShield Installation Information\ {42F8AFC3-7944-46CC-9689-94FF9869D0A7}

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \InstallShield Installation Information\ {42F8AFC3-7944-46CC-9689-94FF9869D0A7}

  • Touchpad and trackpoint dead with 1.17 on Linux bios

    Hello!

I have a laptop of E460, on which I am dual booting Windows 10 Pro and Manjaro Linux (mainly Arch Linux) with the kernel Linux 4.5.2.

Having the same problem as people discuss in the thread E460 keys repeat when 3 seconds , I've been banging my bios to 1.13, 1.16 and yesterday, 1.17 bios, to see if the problem had been solved.

With the 1.17 bios update, my touchpad and trackpoint stopped working under Linux (Windows they work fine). They do not yet appear in/dev/input, and there is no mention of one of them in dmesg, journalctl, /var/log/Xorg.0.log or anywhere.

The touchpad and stick worked fine in the bios 1.13 and 1.16, so I think that there is a regression in 1.17.

Everyone knows this? Can Lenovo, if there is a problem?

Have you tried to reset the default BIOS settings? Then try again.

  • Bluetooth Linux on IdeaPad Z580

I was wandering if someone managed to get the Bluetooth works on Linux on the Z580. I'm a Linux user for a long time, but I still have to use a computer with bluetooth in there. I have no experience with Bluetooth on computers

I know in fact I ordered a machine with Bluetooth in there and have also ensured that Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS, but it does not show in lspci or lsusb and lsmod shows not all Bluetooth modules being loaded. I use a kernel in version 3.6.10.

If someone got the Bluetooth to work, I would appreciate the help.

P.S. I am rather uncomfortable using a command-line Linux, although I should mention that I do not use one of the major distributions. I'm on that is called Rosa Linux and is the only one that has been proven on my laptop because it is the only one where udev trying not to kill the CPU.

  • [Lenovo Edge 11] Disorder of the migration of a HDD to SSD

    Good evening everyone,

I currently own a Lenovo Edge 11 "Intel, that I wanted to spend by exchanging the HARD drive-slow down-stock nine DSS and I'm stuck when I try to restore the image from a USB key.

This stick contains the recovery image made with the ThinkVantage recovery media in the ThinkVantage Toolbox.

First point: I did not abandon car stock data, it is still able to boot the system.

Second point: I installed the SSD drive, plugged my USB with the recovery image, press F12 and chose this... and nothing, just a message "error loading system.

I thought that my recovery image can contain something wrong (although I have follow-up Assistant and left ticked both boxes check to create a bootable disc and copy music Q :), I mounted at the back of the hard drive and tried to make a system image.) But the utility boot me as he tells me that I already have my recovery image.

What should I do now? Thank you for your advice.

    Concerning

    Hi people!

Finally, I can deal with my migration from the HARD drive to my new SSD. Given that I bought a few quality brand blank DVD again (something that I did not long ), I could re - issued a new set of recovery DVDs (all three, the trunk and the two required for the score).

In fact, it loads its content on the SSD.

So far, here's what I did:

    0) back the stock hard drive inside the laptop and the old windows startup

    (1) reset the file done.ini to be able to re-launch the process of creation of recovery media

    (2) mount the SSD in an external case and start a portable Flash DRIVE containing my Ubuntu distro

    (3) launches gparded and get rid of linux partitions I did on the SSD, so all the space is stayed "unallocated".

    4) start on recovery media

    (5) allow the system to restore the computer as he should have done with the first attempt on a USB key.

What I keep as a lesson to all that is:

    (1) DVD are more reliable than the issuance of a USB drive as a recovery unit. Perhaps the process has been modified and improved.

    (2) Lenovo could save time user and give directly the recovery media. Come on, 3 DVDs are not that expensive, Asus even do!

Thank you guys for your support and advice. .

  • How to partition a hard drive for a B50-70 for Linux? No problem with that?

    Hello

How to partition a hard drive for a B50-70?

I want to install Linux and keep Windows 8.1 also.

This will affect the software factory example: back up hard drive function, OKR?

Problems partitioning B50 of the 1970s?

Is it acquisitions have 8.1 Windows on a laptop Lenovo-B50-7?

What will happen if I got rid of Windows 8.1 operating system?

    Thanks in advance.

    Information on the machine:

    B50-70

    Model name: 20384

    Windows 8.1

I've not seen / heard of successful use of the flash drive for recovery purposes. The default software using optical disk, when I used it on my G580.

If your laptop does not have a CD / DVD burner, you may need to contact them directly to discuss this option.

As to where he is? It is a hidden partition on the hard drive, is usually not accessible.

Cloning the hard drive can not return to that partition hidden - it would be a little bit the clone of the drive to work.

I recommend to download your manual of maintenance on the Support site and learn more about the 100% specific for your laptop recovery process.

  • Why no Intel Turbo Boost only downloads for laptop Lenovo?

How is manfucaturers all include a copy of the Intel Turbo Boost their section of downloads of drivers, but Lenovo is not?

Is - this crucuial of CPU overclock properly? I mean, it also contains some kind of pilot in addition to monitoring app or what?

Intel turbo boost is activated and functional on y570. From what I noticed, in heat mode there is always enanbled until the CPU reaches 90 degrees, then it turns off for a minute or two and who returns usually CPU/GPU to 80-84 and then re-active again (it starts no limitation, it disables only turbo). IMO, it's quite reasonable behavior, 90 degrees is not too high temperatures for these CPU/GPU. If you wish, you can monitor cpu temps/multipliers/freqs, through many utilities, I use hwinfo32 for her.
About drivers - as far as I know windows/macOS, I think, support for linux intel turbo boost out of the box, so I don't think that all drivers are needed to fight against it.

Edit: it seems that I was right. A little more info on turbo boost . The first paragraph explains that no additional drivers will be required for all major OS.
