    Hello

I found some info on the HDD on Satellite P10:

    It can be used a 2.5 ", 9.5 mm hard disk with capacity of 30 GB / 40 GB / 60 GB / 80 GB

    -Master - IDE bus
-9.5 mm, 2.5 HARD drive carrier

So for your laptop you can buy IDE HDD up to 80 GB of capacity.

  • Want to upgrade RAM HDD & on Satellite P10 - 304

    Help, please

I have a Satellite P10-304. There is only a tiny 256 RAM and 30 GB hard drive.
    Can I put both?

I was looking to upgrade to 2 GB ram at least and 120 to 160 GB of hard drive.
Looked at the pc world, I know not which is compatible with mine.

    Thank you

    Hello

Of course you can upgrade this P10.

The RAM can be upgraded up to 2 GB and you use PC2100 DDR - RAM modules.

I think that the laptop supports the HDD IDE ATA-5 and in my opinion, you would be able to update with 100 GB or 120 GB HDD

  • Inconsistencies on disk HDD on Satellite P10 504

    Hi guys

I get a message on start up it says one or more of my records have inconsistencie.
Scan has been scheduled Advisor you continue, so he said analysis cancelled, it happens every time I sw on.

I went to tools and sectors bad state checked, but I just get the same message so it is not scanner.
Especially say that am not having problems to work this old model.

Satellite P10 is old piece of hardware, and when something like this happens, you need to be careful with that because of the possibility you can al loose a day your data. So at first back up all your data.

Old IDE hard drives are cheap plus you can share original 40 GB HDD with new 80 GB for example.
Put the new HARD drive, clean install OS and everything will be OK again.

  • USB 160GB HDD - Satellite P10-304 doesn't see 127.9 GB

Can someone help please, I bought a new 160 GB Seagate Momentus HDD.

I put in a USB enclosure and connected, but when I go to Paragon Disk Copy he can see a disc unformatted 127.9 GB.

If I right click on 'My Computer' and use 'Manage', it says I have a unknown 128 GB drive connected.

I updated my BIOS to the latest available from Toshiba (2, 00 - WIN) dated 27/04/06 (on the Toshiba site "last updated on 27/04/06"). However, in the information system, he says: "BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA V2.00, 28/12/2004", correct version but date looks old? on the site Web of Toshiba the last BIOS (V1.60) is listed as: last modification 15/12/05?

Does anyone know if the Bios allows more than 128 GB of disks?

If the answer is no, what are my options? If I go ahead and copy the disk it will work as usual, but as a 128 MB drive? Later if a new Bios is published, allowing disks of large capacity will be the full space available or should I take a disc image, reformat the hard disk and then copy the image (only have a record of this great would mean that I have to use another PC to achieve this).

Its a real pain, ideas or thoughts?

    Many thanks Tony

    Laptop: P10-304 running XP Home.

    Hello

I m not 100% sure if it has something to do with the BIOS.
I think that it s simply a matter of calculation.
HDD dealers calculate with 1000 and they must calculate with 1024. But the difference is still to oversized

Please also check the size of the HARD drive in the other sense. After the fixing of the external HARD drive, you could right click on the HARD drive and check the properties.

    BIOS:
Y, please read the more info section. You'll find info that the 1.60 BIOS update is only for the satellite P10 series models that contain "PSP13E" or "PSP16E" in the model number and version 2.0 of the BIOS update is only for the satellite P10 series models that contain "PSP10E" in the model number.

  • Satellite P10 - sometimes it will not be running

    Hello

I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P10 (bought in 2004).
Sometimes it will not be running (no air conditioning, no battery) and sometimes the "Shut down" - the dialogue appears as if I had pressed the power button (really, I have not). Then, he died instantly, and I can't turn it on. Rarely turns without touching the power button a few minutes later.

First, I assumed that the reason was the envelope, but recently the same problem appears despite the case open.

Finally, I think that the problem is caused by a defective power controller chip. So, I read that I could at least try it deflexing by a hairdryer. This is why I would like to know where the power controller chip is located on the motherboard and how do I recognize it.

    Thanks in advance!

Here he s only one user to user forum and if you have these technical questions should ask a technician for laptop (authorized service provider) for help. I ran through the laptop recovery disks but the same warning message appearing even though I deleted the hard drive...

I got a virus at some point, which could explain this...?

does anyone know what anyone else I can try? Or I'm going to purchase a new hard drive?

    Thanks for your help!

    [Edited by: admin]

    Hello

I don't think that the virus might damage the HARD disc. Of course, the data and files could be damage but not the surface of HDD or sectors. These issues may occur because of the long use of HARD drive. It just happens.
If you are a lucky man, then it might be possible to use software as a generator of HARD drive. Such request repair bad sectors on hard drive surface.
Perhaps it will help you save the HARD drive.

If this isn't the case, so I think you need to replace the HARD drive.

  • My Satellite P10 starts slowly

Dear friends you have an idea why my Satellite P10, takes a while an age to load completely?
There are normally about 3 minutes to load completely, but once on every 6th start I can wait ten or more minutes.

I have 60 GB HDD 40 is free so not a lot of programs, then its slow it will put my desktop OK, in short time, but it's taskbar background who takes the time, with the exception of the flight symbol which lights up the rest, with desk top Messenger, status line, shield deluxe do not appear, for centuries.

  • Satellite P10 804 will not accept the upgrade of RAM

Apologies, this is it is a bit long and also if this question has been covered elsewhere here: I had a good nose autour and have not found something that seems to help.

In any case, I had a Satellite P10 804 during these past years, I bought in the United Kingdom.

Quite early in my time with this laptop, I upgraded the RAM. It was 3 or 4 years ago, when memory was not as cheap right now, so I bought just a single 1 GB module. P10-804 will take up to 2 GB of RAM.

The P10 804 came with 512 GB as standard in two modules. My upgrade means I got 1.25 GB, which was in very good health. Everything was fine until the end of last year when the defective laptop; I followed the fault in module 1 GB of RAM. It was a bit awkward since I now live in New Zealand. However, the provider of the RAM was very professional, stood by their warranty, and we arranged a swap. RAM prices had fallen, so I bought another module of 1 GB at the same time upgrade the laptop completely.

Now the problems really started. The laptop would not simply work with the new installed RAM modules. It would work with one alone, nor even less with my old configuration of a module of 1 GB and 256 GB module. Start and run for five minutes before a freeze; white screen with fans roar; blue screen; frozen screen normal with strange objects; No start at all. everything.

Everything that works now is my original 256 MB module (his partner disappeared). This leads me to assume that I don't have some sort of hardware failure?

1 GB modules are DDR333 SODIMM, CL2.5. This laptop will also have the DDR266 modules, and it has been suggested to me, lower speed might work. I can try this option since the RAM prices are * really * low now, especially if I get confirmation of this as a valid strategy possible.

The laptop BIOS is updated to v2.00 (maybe?), and I also upgraded the HDD to a 120 GB unit (this works very well and is partitioned for XP and Linux). And from time to time I empty the fan.

Any advice welcome. Thanks for reading.

Reading your message, I came to the conclusion that this issue must be linked to the new RAM module and this module is malfunctioning or is not fully compatible with your laptop.

The P10 can be upgraded to 2 GB, so you should be able to use two single RAM 1 GB modules

So it must be a module problem

  • Satellite P10: clouds white and purple fading across the screen during startup

I had problems with my laptop PC-10 so I bought a new hard drive (Fujitsu 60 GB instead of 40 GB) standard and have it myself. I was working very well with it for a long time, until suddenly I have had the strangest problem that I've ever seen on a computer...

Sometimes, when you start the laptop, instead of the screen normal red "TOSHIBA" and the message to start Windows XP, the laptop displays simply little weird white and purple clouds fading across the screen, fading finally on a screen very dark, but not quite black.

I thought first it was a problem with the DVD player, like when he finally gave and started normally, the DVD drive has been disabled. However, I noticed in the BIOS, under "Advanced" the Infrared Port shows intermittently - it shows with the [Disabled] setting next to him, but will be then disappear from the list, then reappear again and then go again and so on.

Sometimes my computer will function normally, then completely shut (mouse and all) and will restart with the clouds!

I looked in the Windows Event Viewer for when the laptop has locked up and have seen anything to do with a problem with IRQS for the Infrared Port. I disabled the infrared port in Device Manager (I managed to activate in the BIOS by loading the standard BIOS settings) and rebooted, but it started upward with the clouds once again, so I have the feeling that the infrared port is the culprit - loose connection may be defective material because it is located close to the DVD player and HD player.

I was wondering if anyone has seen something like this before on any computer, and if they knew how to solve? It seems completely illogical that a defective IR port could change what is displayed on the screen on startup, unless of course there is something wrong with my HD boot sector?

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Tom

    Hello

I've never seen like this problem before and I don't think that this issue has something to do with the HARD drive or the IrDA port.
As much as I know the IrDA port is not available on Satellite P10 - xxx

For me, this looks like a faulty screen or graphics card.
Have you tried to connect the external display? If this isn't the case, then try to do and check if it also appears on the external display.

I recommend also to recover the laptop with Toshiba Recovery CD and then check the functionality.
But if the malfunction appears so I would recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP for control from laptop

  • Can not use the USB ports on my Satellite P10

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite P10 3 years computer that has 3 USB ports. None of them works although the power is coming from them than my external mouse upwards but lights does not work. In Device Manager it says that everything is working ok IE all the drivers, etc. I was told that it's probably the motherboard?

Maplins it's a software problem. I tried a PCI card with USB port but they no longer work. The PCI location is fine but as my wireless adapter card works from there ok. I restored the computer 3 times and each time the USB ports do not work.
Any suggestions? I want to add an external mouse drive DVD etc...

    Any help appreciated... Mark

    Hello

Did you use the clean Toshiba Recovery CD to restore the operating system on your laptop or have you installed the operating system from the original Windows CD.
I advise to use the Toshiba Recovery CD because all the driver and patches installed on this CD.

The USB ports provide a current of 500 ma, and it is a standard. If several external devices connected to ports needs more power as 500mA, then it of possible that the laptop does not detect USB devices several.

In Device Manager, you may turn off the power save the unique option to the USB ports.
You can do this in the properties of the USB port

Additional I advise to use a USB hub with external power clean.
These devices are not very expensive and will allow you to connect and use several devices together.

  • Satellite P10-304 - update Windows 7 problem

I have a Satellite P10 304 to 2003 which has Windows XP, but I need to update for obvious reasons. I bought a copy of Windows 7 (32 bit) and installed without any installation problem, however I can't update Windows.

I reinstalled, deleted the hard drive and reinstalled again. Tried the stop and start the Windows Update utility.
    Downloaded the stand-alone Windows Update.

Updated the BIOS to V2.0 and downloaded the Toshiba Service Station application (who says no update is necessary).
    All this without success.

My hopes were raised when I saw that the Station Service for Windows 7 32 bit software was available for the P10 304 but I am now at a loss.

Anyone know if this laptop can be upgraded to Windows 7 and how to get updates of work?

    Help is welcome.

    Peter

I'm sure that installation of Windows 7 update problems are not specific to Toshiba problems even if you use the Toshiba laptop.

From my point of few, you should check the Microsoft support pages to find the solution.
    For example this:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=Windows-7

Just a tip: I had some problems in the past to install updates because of the antirust software. He locked the installation of some essential updates and after you disable temporal, updates could be installed...
Missing Service Packs might concern the single installation of patches.
