• LOCKING BIOS or HARD drive

  OK, so my first HARD drive news was bricked because I didn't know that a locked BIOS would automatically lock a new drive.   I know now...

  Rule 1: a LOCKED bios will lock (read: brick) a new HARD drive

  
  So, what about the two rule. Would be a HDD then the lockout a BIOS otherwise Virgin locked?
  

  Inquiring minds want to know - (mine, anyway.  Hard drives get expensive when you have to buy them in bulk!)

  I is a computer technology way back in retirement now and my girlfriend son has a Dell Inspiron N5110 and she got the trinkets on the bios and some how locked bios and asks the password service tag. So here I am stuck and cannot lock this thing, she never recorded and the warranty expired, so I need to know what I should do to get this master password to unlock. Since she never recorded I advanced and recorded in my name and I am sure that this is not proof of ownership, but I did anyway. so if someone can tell me now that it will cost me for a lot for this code I would appreciate,

  Your laptop is to produce a code hexadecimal halt which is stored in the ram as a 'one stop' and is recalculated after a reboot.  This indicates that you have a FRIEND bios later and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work - surprisingly, you can always remove power on password of the machine by removing the cell RTC (leave the connected Power Board) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before reinserting the RTC.

  The bad news is that the RTC may be on the 'wrong' side of the system board, so it will take some disassembly.

  Insert a clean USB flash drive.

  Then run USB Image tool.

  Choose the flash drive, and then click RESTORE.

  Remove the flash drive after the restore.

  Insert a locked in a portable flash drive and boot. "If the HARD drive is installed remove before start".

  At C:\OUTPUT, type CD...   "And then press ENTER.

  HPBR of type "and then press ENTER.

  First thing is to save your settings.

  Select 3 # re-program.

  Press "S" to save the system information.

  Type HPBR and press ENTER.

  Given that your model is not listed, select "SHOTGUN".

  After the reboot, repeat 'SHOTGUN' a second time.

  I would like to know the result, so I can update my list.

  The usual methods for consumer laptop most likely will not work on laptops in the Business class HP. Please only contact HP Business to get a bin of software to reset the password.

• ThinkPad x 22 locked bios

  BIOS of my laptop is way out of date.  I downloaded the last being, but the update failed. The reason seems to be that the BIOS is locked i.e. modifications are disabled. It doesn't seem to be a BIOS password so I can enter the fine BIOS settings, but no changes can be made. The laptop works very well in many ways, it would be nice to have updated. The same problem exists with the on-board controller program that I downloaded it, too. Any ideas, please? (I'm under XP Home SP3) Thank you.

  What you have on this machine, it's probably a supervisor password. That's why you can get, but can't make changes.

  Once the CMOS battery dies X 22 will become a brick.
