  Hello everyone,

      Some time back I had experienced problems with Windows Update continually advising me the KB2538242 was ready to be installed.  After a lot of hassle, I finally got help from Support staff technical Microsoft through 3 sessions of Assistance to solve the problem remotely.

  At the end of the last session, there were several icons left on my desk. (A couple of the names associated with the icons are: desktop.ini & redistributable Microsoft Visual C++ MFC 2005).   Some are .exe files and some are presented as folders.

  My question: is there a way to HIDE these icons so that they will be displayed on the desktop, without actually delete files / folders / applications, icons are associated with?

  (I'd forgotten there is no way to attach a screenshot (jpeg file) from my office, so everyone could see the icons I want to talk).

  Thanks for your time and any clarification on this subject!

  More than two places to check (the second is obviously only valid if you are using Windows Firewall; if you use a third party firewall instead, see your user's guide or the help system application for how to manage exceptions to the firewall blocking rules):

  Control Panel > system > Remote tab

  What do you mean by "driver support?

  If you have installed one of these offers of support software driver, you have installed malware.  The vast majority of them no useful software and installing a lot of malware on your computer.

  The drivers are not the soft thing you should normally be updated.  I recommend the updated drivers only in the case of a problem that has to solve, and it's rare.

  Is the ONLY source, you should consider for driver updates or OEM support site.  Even those who sometimes go way overboard in trying to update the drivers.  The latest Dell systems are equipped with updated software that checks for new updates every day.   In most cases, drivers are rarely updated after the first year of a product.

  Thank you FredMcD for your time and effort. I spent all morning going through the number of entries in the link you provided. Unfortunately, none of them could solve the problem--directly.

  However...

  I learned so much about all the obscure and esoteric settings available and how to handle that I was able to synthesize a solution intuitively:

  • First of all, I carefully removed all traces of Tor with an advanced uninstaller.
  • After reinstalling, the browser made his usual routine of Premiere and opened.
  • An information bar first time upward offered access to privacy and security.
  • I AGREED and unchecked the first box (disabling Private Browsing).
  • The program itself given running and I was able to set my master password.

  Private browsing, but also permanent Private Browsing, can be manipulated, turn it back on, then back to the convenience of the user, according to the needs of any particular situation. Note, however, that, under any form of PB, storage and use of password is removed.

  Note that I did all the steps above (and many other things) throughout my diagnosis, but only AFTER I had already started using the browser (by playing and by checking the various options), which I think automatically some of my preferences of profile defined until I could do it manually. Alternatively, it could be a bad installation in the first place (questionable), or a combination of these factors. Whatever it is, it worked.

  Regarding support in Mozilla, I am impressed by the volume and diversity of the information contained here, as well as the good Samaritans like you caring nature. However, almost all the documents that I have met is Firefox/Thunderbird-centric.

  A search for Tor showed very little data and nothing similar to my case. By its very nature, a software like Tor would naturally by default an option like private browsing. But how many people know that it kills so the ability to use passwords? Even if the Tor Project is based on the Mozilla engine, I think that the people who run the project should be implemented their own support system or lend a hand here and may not return the ball to well-intentioned donors like you and your employees.

  But in any case - problem solved, thanks to you and those who, as lend you time and advice to a complete stranger.

  Now all I have to do is to find extra time to monitor these pages so that maybe, someday, I can return the favor.

  You can check that you are not Firefox running in permanent private browsing mode (don't remember history).

• When you make a new folder in the "Page Bookmarked" pop up, it won't let me name the folder.

  Usually, when you to bookmark a page, by selecting the drop down next to the 'file' box, you can press "New folder", and it create a new folder and allow you to name it.

  Now, it often does nothing when I press the button, and when it does not have a new folder, it won't let me name. I have to go to my favorites, right click and go to properties and then change the name from there. It is very annoying.
