longevity IOS autonomous

Cisco plans to support a standalone IOS long-term solution? I notice all material business new CAPWAP controller based only. The line of low level of APs support for the stand-alone versions will continue for a long time? (Like AIR-AP1262N-A-K9) I realize that they are unable to incorporate other advanced features in a stand-alone AP and CleanAir.

Hello

Access points only stand will remain available for a period of time, no new features will be included, but features such as the air quality will only be available on lightweight access points, since it is a characteristic of the WLC and mode capwap access points.

OK, this means that you must order the AP with controllers and convert on controller IOS IOS autonomous AP.

The product AP on controller ID is AIR-CAP2702I-E-K9.

  • Copy the IOS Aironet configuration

I created a 1041 AP running IOS autonomous. No controller. I have three that I want to copy the configuration of the installation on others. I have the right document, but need someone to help tell me what commands will get my set of AP configuration a FTP'd to my computer and how to copy this configuration back to another model of the same access point. This way I don't have to change a few more settings of the AP instead of starting from scratch.

    HI Kirk,

To copy the configuration of AP to PC, you can run the command below. My preference would be to use tftp instead of tftp.

copy: the execution of the system-configftp://x.x.x.x/ap.txt or copy running-config tftp://x.x.x.x/ap.txt t
(where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the tftp server and ap.txt is the name of the configuration file)

Top of page PC of AP copy, you could use command below.

copy tftp://x.x.x.x/AP.txt startup-config (where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the tftp server and ap.txt is the name of the configuration file)

Make sure that you are able to ping to the ip address of tftp to the AP before trying the copy procedure.

    Hope that helps.

  • Cisco AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 can be used in standalone mode?

    Hello

We strive to deploy AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 with 5508 controller. However, the controller is remaining and we do not want to delay our site survey. Can we use the AP mode stand-alone for the poll on the site? We don't need to exploit or to pass traffic. As long as he can feed himself which is detected by Ekahau Site survey tool, I'm fine. I can power via a PoE switch.

  • AIR-AP1142N-T-K9

    Hi all

I'm brand new on wireless and I would like to findout if AIR-AP1142N-T-K9 is stand-alone or light weight. I read some documents and they say that the series 1140 is autonomous, but nothing special to 1142 NTK9. If it is a stand-alone can become light weight and which WLC series support the converted AP.

    Thank you.

I am brand new to wireless and i would like to findout whether AIR AP1142N-T-K9 is standalone or light weight

Your product code says it is autonomous (independent aka), but the best way to check is to console in the AP and see the IOS.  If your IOS is "C1140-K9W8- M", so he focuses on the controller of IOS.  If your IOS is "C1140-K9W7- M", then it is autonomous.

Conversion from IOS autonomous (aIOS) is quite easy.  Everything you need to do is copy the file "RRS" TAR in the AP, it starts from him.

    Hello

I tried to assign the ip address to my access point in light mode by using the command

AP (config) # interface bvi 1

but it doent keep giving error "an invalid entry detected""marker.

    Help, please... Thank you

You cannot use the lightweight access points :-)

I suggest you reconfigure them as IOS autonomous access points.

Download the IOS software for this model AP and install it on the AP, then it will be configurable as a normal IOS device.

    The command is "archive download-sw/f/o tftp: / // '.

If it does not allow you to type this command try to type "debug lwapp console cli" or "debug capwap console cli" everything first, but you need to be connected via the console (no telnet).

    Hope this helps!

The company I work for just bought one of these APs and I'm having a hard time setting her up. I did several searches of hae and I can't find what I'm looking for. It seems that after a factory reset by pressing mode for power, that I can't in global configuration mode. The config t command is not a known order. I am able to exc priv mode. Does anyone have ideas on this?

Yes, the version of IOS loading and CAPWAP messages confirm that this AP is in light mode.

You need the firmware IOS autonomous such as c1240-k9w7 - tar.124 - 21A .JY .tar.

  • Help with Setup for roaming on 3502 and 1252

Hello everyone, I have a little suggest on how to set up roaming without having to connect different SSID. I find when I was at the Rochester Institute of Technology College, when I walk down the hall, I saw my phone wifi signal is never detached but seen 1142 (I thought to it what looks like design) change from green to blue in each location. My major is information & Computing studies at NTID.

    My current setup at home:

1 Internet to untangle the firewall Cisco Catalyst Express 500 with PoE to two 3502i at home

2 cisco Catalyst Express 500 to Cisco Catalyst Express 500 with PoE to two 1252 in the garage

3 3502i and 1252 running IOS autonomous or independent

And also we have smartphones, apple ipads and iphones and a laptop computer.

I want to put the same SSID so they should connect automatically via roaming anywhere as LAUGHS and even double band should work also. I don't have a Windows Server or virtual WLC (should I get Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012 of LAUGHS and I can download virtual WLC too). Will it work without WLC and server?

In this case, if it is not possible without WLC so I want to know what requirement list so I can add to this to make it work.

    Stephen,

All of these AP are running WPA2-PSK AES + WPA-PSK TKIP (Cipher AES CCMP + TKIP) with same passhrase and same SSID. Any channel still work? Isn't 802.1x can be used with Windows Server that have RADIUS? Are you sure I leave these same configuration so it will roaming itself or client?

I would stick with channels 06/01/11, standard no bunk channels for the side of 2.4 GHz.  For 5 GHz, any channel you choose should work as 5 GHz channels do not overlap.

And Yes, provided that the mapping SSID, PSK and VLAN (if you make interfaces) is the same and there is some overlap between the signals of the AP, your customers need to wander between the AP very well.

  • Enable the HTTP Server

I have a Cisco Aironet 3702E and I want to set it up as a standalone unit in my network. This access point is a brand new and has not been deployed in a network and has not been controlled by a CA previously. I tried to find how to enable HTTP on the access point but in vain. • to convert 1142N AP autonomous lightweight access point

    Hello

I have 4 1142N access points are all points of light access. Because I don't have a controller, I need to convert to standalone AP.

I went through document cisco 1142, where it is mentioned that "the access point 1142 doesn't have the default IP address"

I know procedure to convert offline in which I need to connect ap to the TFTP 10.0.0.1 with the ip address by default, but as for 1142, we do not have the default ip address. What is the procedure to convert offline?

I have to assign a pool in one of the local switch and connect the ap to these switches with vlan, so she will receive the IP address of the DHCP server?

But how can we without default IP address? I wonder about this...

If I did not turn on where I can assign pool dhcp... what should I do?

Please suggest me to convert 1142 standalone AP ap...

I will be thankful to get the right answer...

    Hi Vinod,

    Here's the resolution...

The image that is on the device's LWAPP, not the autonomous... If you want to use the AP in stand-alone mode, then the image must be W7...  It's...

    C1140-k9w7 - tar.124 - 21A .JY .tar not c1140-rcvk9w8 - tar.124 - 23c.JA.tar

Please feel free to download any image from the below link and perform the conversion of image LWAPP to stand alone...

    the methos to convert is...

Download TFTPd32 of google and install it on your PC... point of the image that you downloaded on the TFTP server.

Connect a cable ethernet between your notebook and AP... both should be on the same subnet... Connect a cable from the console and access the hyperterminal console with the command... Make sure that you are able to ping the PC and AP and vice versa!

  • Autonomous aPs with several SSID in a VLAN?

    Hello

We use autonomous APs to Cisco in our spirit of place several THAT SSID configured with WPA - PSK.

Now, we want to add a different SSID using WPA - EAP authentication.

Since many of our branches have flat architecture VLAN with only one VLAN, we would like to have two SSIDS in the same VLAN, in a subnet.

This is supported in the autonomous APs?

    Kind regards

    Sinan

It is possible, if it is not a standard way of configuration.

Here's a solution if you willing to give it a try. If you have a dish vlan, you can configure your AP connected as access vlan switchport & configure your SSID two like that. It should work (I tested with Open Auth & you can try to add security as well). You may not be able to broadcast two SSIDS, but it's something you have to make compromises if you wish.

  • Ipv6 access list does not apply autonomous Aironet 3602I-E

As you can see in the attached config I configured two SSID (2G & 5 G) for a third (2G only) SSID and PEAP WPA2-Ent on the vlan 2 for 'poor team access as guest '.

Basically I forced the Dot11Radio0.2 interface in the Group of deck 1 to get all three SSIDS on vlan 1 (since I want just a quick way and dirty to allow its customers access to the internet, without having to configure a vlan separate everywhere).

The guest SSID (XX COMMENTS) allows tkip in addition to BSE and uses a PSK rather than PEAP. Access lists configured on Dot11Radio0.2 IPv4 allows clients connected to this SSID get an IP by DHCP, use the DNS servers on the local network and access the internet. All other traffic for the local network is blocked by access lists guest_ingress and guest_egress.

This all works very well, ipv4 is blocked for guests invited as expected. However, ipv6 is something different. For some reason, the ipv6 access list is completely ignored.

Because I don't need ipv6 for guest access, I thought that I have completely block and do with it. As you can see I have this set:

    interface Dot11Radio0.2
    guest_ingress6 filter IPv6 traffic in
    guest_egress6 filter IPv6 traffic on

and these ipv6 access lists have a rule of "refuse a whole" only. Yet, the XX COMMENTS SSID connected client gets an ipv6 address of the server on the LAN DHCP6 and has full connectivity. For ipv4, that I had to explicitly allow DHCP packets to the client not even get an IP, so the ipv6 access lists are not clearly applied.

No matter if I move the access interface Dot11Radio0 instead lists, they don't do anything. I thought that maybe I should add a "enable ipv6" on the Dot11Radio0.2 interface (even if ipv6 traffic was very good, even where it shouldn't), but when I set "enable ipv6" Dot11Radio0 or Dot11Radio0.2 the radio goes into a sort of infinite loop of reset:

In addition, when creating a list like this ipv6 access:

    guest_egress6 IPv6 access list
    refuse an entire ipv6

    The other is automatically created:

    IPv6-guest_egress6 role-based access list
    refuse an entire ipv6

A deletion also removes the other.

What is happening with these ipv6 ACLs, why they are not blocking all traffic? Why do I get an acl "role-based" too? Is associated it with?

Is there a another way to kill just any ipv6 on the SSID of COMMENTS XX traffic while leaving alone on others? That's all I need at this stage. If the ipv6 ACL do not work, perhaps this can be done (ab) using a service-policy or policy routing? I'm ready to creative solutions :)

PS. I know this is not the recommended method to configure a guest SSID, but it should still work IMO.

You have encountered a bug I discovered a few months ago (CSCva17063), in your case, the workaround is to apply the ACL on the physical rather than the void interface interface (because you want to completely block IPv6 in any case). I write (more) my conclusions regarding the traffic that refusal on autonomous APs in a blogpost, might be interesting for you to read as well.

Remember that the access point used as a bridge between the wired infrastructure and wireless, not as a router. There's some IOS routing of commands (like the "enable IPv6" command you pointed out) , but these are not the characteristics that should be used or need to be enabled on an access point.

Because the networks internal and customer spend somewhere else, I would perform filtering on this device instead. Also sub gi0.2 interface is missing from your configuration, so I do not think that access as a guest is currently working at all?

  • Ligthweigth autonomous mode!

HI, I need to change the access point Ligthwiegth IOS and make it work like an Autonomus AP 1242. I have the image, but I'm not really clear on the process. I got to get into the real point of Ligthwiegth access to the console port, but I don't know how is the process of valuation...

    I'd appreciate any advice! TKS

    Hi Paul,.

    There are 2 methods to do this, take a look;

    Returning to standalone Access Point

It is possible to return to a point of access compatible LWAPP Cisco Aironet return to autonomous mode. Please refer to Cisco Aironet Lightweight mode standalone update Access Points to get detailed instructions on the returning to stand-alone mode. Use this URL

Convert a standalone Lightweight Access Point

You can convert an access point of the mode light return to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS version that supports stand-alone mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3 (7) JA or earlier version). If the access point is associated with a controller, you can use the controller to load the version of Cisco IOS. If the access point is not associated with a controller, you can load the version of Cisco IOS using TFTP.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note in some deployments LWAPP, LWAPP controller lies between access points and the rest of the network. In this topology, all traffic must pass through the controller communicate with network resources, such as a TFTP server, can occur. When converting back to non - IOS LWAPP with an access point that uses the LWAPP Protocol is no longer, traffic does not reach on the controller to reach the TFTP server.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using a LAN Controller wireless to go back to a previous version

Follow these steps to return mode LWAPP stand-alone mode using a wireless LAN Controller:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Journal of step 1 in the CLI on the controller that is associated with the access point.

    Step 2, enter this command:

config ap tftp-downgrade filename tftp-address-ip access point name

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By using a TFTP server to revert to a previous version

Follow these steps to return mode LWAPP stand-alone mode by loading a version of Cisco IOS using a TFTP server:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 the IP address of the computer on which the server software runs TFTP should range from 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.30.

Step 2 make sure the PC contains the file access point (for example, c1200-k9w7 - tar.122 - 15.JA.tar for a 1200 Series access point) in the TFTP server folder and the TFTP server is activated.

Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the folder of the TFTP server c1200-k9w7 - tar.default for a series of 1200 point, c1130-k9w7 - tar.default of access for a series of 1130 access point and c1240-k9w7 - tar.default for a series of 1240 access point.

Step 4 connect the PC to the access point using an Ethernet category 5 cable (CAT5).

Step 5 disconnect the power to the access point.

Step 6 push the MODE button and hold the button while you reconnect power to the access point.

Step 7 hold the MODE button until the status of the LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds), then release.

Step 8 wait until restarting access point, as indicated by the LEDs become green followed the status LED flashes green.

Step 9 after the access point reboots, reconfigure using the GUI or the CLI.
