Look at a key security or password for a network

Hi, basically what I want to know is if there is a way I can see the key to security/password for my network. I'm on the computer that created the network, and now I'm trying to connect a laptop computer to my network and he asks me a password or security key. I do not pay attention to the key when I was creating the network, so I don't remember what it was. Can I see my key so I can connect my laptop to the network?

This desktop PC and laptop are running on Vista, I say that if there is something else you should know :)

Thank you very much!

The best way, in my opinion, to learn that the key is to reset the router by default.  Default values appear in the router documentation.  You can then restore security to something you will remember. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

  • Additional layer of security; 2nd password for some files? (PLEASE HELP)

    Team,

I just spent HOURS trying to this issue, including the chat with HP (useless) search.  Help, please!  (Thanks! 0)

I'm the only account on my computer, but I have the children/woman/woman of household living with me.  When I connect to my computer at startup, I log in as one user, who IS the administrator... all the same person, me.  Once connected, I can access all my folders, files, and Outlook.  I want to add ANOTHER layer of security to CERTAIN folders of Windows and SOME folders in Outlook.

I don't want to NOT create new accounts users, etc. as which will not help to solve the problem, I am trying to solve - which is, when I am connected and working, but not away from my computer to answer the door or go to the toilet or to take a phone call - anyone, I don't want passerby (household/child/woman woman) to be able to sit and to access all folders in Windows or some of the folders in Outlook.

On the contrary, I want to create a secure repository or a 'safe' on my desk where I store some personal records.  Ditto, when outlook is OPEN AND running on my computer already connected, I want to enter a password EVERY time I try and open my 'sent' folder or my 'personal '.

I tried the whole 'click on the folder' and go to 'Properties' and then select 'Security' and change allow it to deny... but it does not work BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY USER = I am the ADMINISTRATOR.  If I simply create other accounts, that does not solve the problem b/c I still want access to these special folders WHEN I'M LOGGED in I am trying to add a 2nd password or layer of security for ME EVEN when I am logged in, once again, simply to prevent a person from going back up to my computer when I am already connected and able to see everything on my computer or in my outlook.

Regarding the Outlook, I went and highlighted my personal files and went to the management of the data and settings and added a password, but I think that just put a password on the actual .pst file on the computer, b/c even after I did it and I opened Outlook I could go in any folder I want without having to add the word of past.

I'm not married to this solution, so if anyone knows a better way to protect my sensitive files on my computer AFTER I've already logged in as me... and walk for a minute or an hour (which may never know how long something will take), I would be grateful.  And Yes, I'm trying to remember to hit 'sleep' whenever my foot, but sometimes I forget and I want just a second layer/password when I am already connected.

    Thank you!!!

Can I protect files or folders with a password?
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/can-I-protect-files-or-folders-with-a-password

Try FreeHideFolders which hides the file and requires a password for access 1 if someone has
namely that there is and its location and name and then they know the password. TIP - write
the password and keep it in several places including the House.

    FreeHideFolders - free

A simple method is to do a master data folder so all your important data (files and folders)
is under the hidden folder. Of course, you can protect individual files as well.

The other will allow you to encrypt files, folders or disks together.

    Hello

He was able to remove the sort of administrator account and block us on the computer. Could someone tell us how he managed to do so and if it is possible to secure the administrator account to a certain way so that it is unable to do?

    Thank you for your help.

    Eric

A person who has the following text will always be able to access a computer. This applies to any operating system, not just Windows. Announcing the details here would be a violation of the code of conduct.

    • Physical access
    • Appropriate tools
    • Knowledge and skills required.

Encrypt the entire drive would defy most of the cracking attempts but would create another set of problems.

  • Disable the requirement of password for the network disks

I have a LAN with Windows XP Pro and Vista computers. With some effort, all computers can see, edit and manage files on other computers. There is also network disks (that is, directly connected to the network; no computer) used for backup and storage.

None of the computers or readers in network has a login password or user name. I intend to keep it that way. (Think of the bucolic neighborhood where no one locks doors and there is no flights.)

Since the Vista (Ultimate) computer, when I try to back up to a network drive, Vista insists on a user name and password. But there is not. So, I can't back up to a network drive (although in Windows Explorer and the command prompt, I can write and manage networked computers and disks without problem). I was not able to find a way around this obstacle.

I put the Vista computer is not to require a password (network and sharing Center > sharing and discovery > sharing protected by password = Off). But that seems to focus on the incoming requests (from other computers to access the Vista computer) but no outgoing requests (Vista to get access to other computers and readers). Affecting the security of the files and folders on other computers and network disks to everyone = control total (in other words, anyone who can physically access the disc should be able to write to it) did not solve the problem.

I assume that there is a simple solution. I would be grateful for help. (Remember that the parameter/allocation of passwords is not a solution).

I don "t know precisely how to do what you ask for - there is no commands or settings I am sensitive to this address. It can probably be done with a registry fix, but I looked and could not find one.

I found the following solution suggested in another forum and it was the only one who seemed to avoid the need for name of user and password (or failed to mention this requirement and exists).  It may not be the same as your situation is a Win Server and so maybe a field rather than a working group, but it seems worth a try.  To be honest, I don't know yet if the command applies to your situation and can not test it with my system - but who will know soon enough. If it allows you to, maybe the location of the network password will give you tips on how to make various adjustments that will work in your situation.  I would be cautious about deleting all references without making a note of them so they can be restored if she doesn't and perhaps is still problematic.  I would also create a system restore point right before starting this process to be on the safe side.

    With the a2x compliments of http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistaapps/thread/f545e8ae-46fc-4BEE-bfd8-be1fe1151e04/ :

For what it's worth, I had this works when you connect a Vista client to Win Server 2003 R2 SIN.  I had the same questions as everyone else here, but ultimately what worked for me was of typecontrol userpasswords2 in the command run on the Vista client and go into the Advanced tab, then on manage passwords.  I found references to the NAS (DNS names, ip addresses) and removed all.  Then I disonnected all drives mapped to the SIN of working.  Then I traced the drive that I was going to use for backup by using the network card function first and that worked (I used the mapping of IP).  Then I went into the backup and restore and it said it was on a network drive and typed in the path (once again using an IP instead of a server name) and he was able to see the drive and I would like to choose what to backup, etc. and it worked.

I hope this works.  If this isn't the case, after return and I'll investigate more trying to find a solution (if any).

    Good luck!

  • "Cannot connect to the network." When you enter the correct password for wireless network

    Hello

I have the HP Photosmart C7200 all-in-One series.

This seems relatively insignificant compared to some of the problems posted here, but nevertheless it is a problem.  I have a Verizon FiOS (Actiontec) router.  I am trying to connect to it wireless; the network key is using WPA authentication.  I followed all the instructions in the quick start guide.

My printer detects my network and application authentication key.  I enter the correct key, the printer is trying to establish a connection, but after about 15 to 25 seconds, I get the error message, "cannot connect to the network.  I know that my key is correct; I connect to my router very well through several laptops, PDA, etc.  I have reset the settings network default manufacturer and tried without success.

I don't know what kind of trouble shooting I'm supposed to do here.  The printer detects the router (albeit low signal strength) whenever I try to connect, I enter the password each time and I get the error each time.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: I printed the test report wireless network, here are the results:

    Radio on   PASS

    The radio work   PASS

Ethernet cable not plugged in   PASS

    Network name (SSID found)   PASS

    Security   PASS

The printer settings compatible with the configuration of the wireless router   PASS

No filtering   IN CASE OF FAILURE

    Connected   Not work

    The signal strength   Very low

Other networks detected matching you the network name (SSID)   NO.

I know this sounds strange, but try changing channel by channel 11 of the wireless router.

Vista had been particularly transparent connection to a peer network XP, but suddenly invites to indicate the user name and password to login. • Domestic need assistancet to find the password for the network. No disc

Adding ipod phone to my network. He ask my password that I can't find.   How to find the network password?

I'm assuming that you need the password of your wireless network.

You can usually get this by connecting to your wireless router, connection and find the screen where the password is specified.  Wireless router usually has the IP address as any computer on your home network with the last digit the value '1' or ' 254'.  And generally, you would use a browser to connect as, in general:
    http://192.168.1.1

If you would like more information, please consult the manual of your wireless router.

  • Retrieve or change password for wireless network.

Can't conect to my wireless network.

You must contact the manufacturer and see if there is a way to reset the wireless device if you can enter a new user name and/or password.  They can also have other suggetions to resolve the situation.  This is the wireless device software and not Microsoft software, so we are not familiar with how it works (and you do not include the manufacturer, the brand and model of the device, so we could search to try to reach a recommendation if this was possible without contact with them).

If this does not work, then I suggest uninstalling the software of the device wireless and then re - install again.  Who should clear the old password and give you a chance to enter a new during the installation and configuration process.  Make sure you know all the appropriate settings and note before you uninstall it (and make sure you have always access to the software or by recorded disc download, or the website of the manufacturer (ask them where to find it when you talk with them if you can't find it).)

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
