  • Problem, reinstall the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

I have problems with MCE 2005.  My hard drive crashed and the technician that restored my repressive said that he could not work in MCE 2005.  It's a shame because he was working before the hard drive crashes.  I work with windows XP.
When I go to install the internet and begin to test the connection it gives me "Critical error of process - Code 2"
When I go to the TV configuration, it tells me "Tuner not found".  Even if I know it works because I also Win TV7 in Hauppauge. My TV tuner is HVR-1600.
With these problems, I thought that the solution might be to reinstall rollup 2 according to the Microsoft.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/910905
However, when I go to reinstall the Update Rollup 2, it seems to be to establish a restore point and then it stops when it hits hotfix (KB891593).
I took a copy of the mcelog and have attached a copy of the log below.

Assistance or management, you can provide me to solve this problem would be highly appreciated.

At this point, I'm a newbie to this and I don't have a clue as to the cause of my problems and any ideas you may have for me would be much appreciated.

  • Try to install the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 - on SP3.

    Hello

All this started when my Xbox360 is dead, sent it for repair, came home another, all hung up and tried to connect to the Media Center. Of course, it did not work and the screen says to uninstall? (something), I forgot today, it has been a long road since then. BUT I uninstalled Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and updates that came after. NOW realize it was a mistake, I'm not of the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on your computer. And I'm confused regarding why, for the first time, that I can't find a single KB article on this problem.

And even if I did not restore the system off, there is no restore point on my machine.

So I'm always searching in google and microsoft.com but a little lost right now.

    Moccan,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.  I would like to know if you read this article for the hotfix rollup: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900325.  In particular the section more information, which has this:

If the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update before you install the Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Otherwise, the installation of .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 will fail.

To determine whether the 886904 update is installed, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. Click to select the Show updates check box.
    3. In the currently installed programs list, look for the following element:
Fix for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (KB886904)

If you see this option, you must remove the hotfix. To remove the patch, click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904), and then click Remove. Then, visit the Windows Update Web sit to download and install the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

If you haven't checked out on this yet, then follow the steps below and let us know the result. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Restoration of disks for HP M7250N Media Center XP

I have a HP Media Center Desk Top System Mod # M - 7250N who has Win XP Media Center 32 bit single core cpu Intel 2.8 and 4 GB of ram installed. I bought the computer new from Best Buy a few years ago. I had a breakdown of complete hard drive a few weeks ago. I'm looking for my restore disks but could not locate them. I contacted HP support and was advised that he would convey restore disks to me when they become available. It is some time now with no response and I don't think that I will get no help on that date. My wife uses the system of family history research and I was after her forever to save things, but that was not done.

    Hi, Terry:

You probably know more to get the HP recovery discs I do since you called them and they said they would send them when back in stock.

The problem with that is that they're probably never coming back back in stock.

However, this place has a set of $27 + shipping costs.

    http://www.computersurgeons.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ID=2696

.. and Yes, your PC can run Windows 7 well. I checked the specifications and all the hardware is windows 7 capable.

Alternatively, you can check for yourself by running the free W7 Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft. All your other stuff connected and turned on like printers, scanners, etc.

The program will scan and report his ability to work on W7.

Here is the link to this tool.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor

However, from the cost point of view, it would be cheaper for you to order a set of recovery disks.

    Kind regards

  • where can I get a video decoder for win xp media center so I can pick up a signal from TV

I use to be able to pick up a signal from TV, but since a new reinstall of xp media center I can not get a signal - the message says that I need a video decoder, where can I get this article

    Hi davidwiddecombe,

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.

Use your favorite search engine and browse for such a program which is used to.

What a pleasure - this really makes the license issues a joy.
If I understand you right, "fried" your old computer was XP Home Edition - and the replacement motherboard came from a machine with MCE?
If so, then Yes, you must use the MCE license, rather than the home one. To be entirely legal, it must also have the sticker COST MCE glued to the box.
MCE is XP Pro - which is a reason that you can not change just the product key-based. The other is that the update tool simply is not designed to work with MCE.
    What can you do?
Unfortunately, there is no way around it, whatever you do will involve a clean install (to backup your data first led outdoors!) If you want to stick with MCE.

    (1) you can go to the manufacturer of the MCE machine and ask if they can provide the recovery disc for this machine - if you're lucky, they may still have some in stock. If they are not, try restoredisks.com
    (2) you can take your life in your hands and download a torrent of a set of installation MCE - it's going to be at least two CD there are a couple of "real" out there, who are free of malicious software, but most is contaminated in some way, so be very careful and do due diligence on any download you.
    (3) you can try to find a legitimate MCE pack on sale somewhere - I don't know what it should cost, or that also the prices on them are moving from MS stopped making years and they are like gold dust. (XP Pro prices are rising, but I suspect that MCE prices may be down).
    (4) you can purchase a legal license for XP Edition family - again, be very careful where you buy-it came to a point where there are more counterfeits than legal market. This would allow you to use the update tool to keep your current installation.

Note that there is no such thing as a 'detail' MCE - MCE all licenses are OEM and as such, cannot upgrade a XP Home license, where my earlier warning about backing up your data.

  • The guide to "Help and Support Center" installed for Windows XP Media Center 2004 is largely outdated and must be updated.

I have version Dell of Windows Media Center 2005 (service pack 3) installed on my XPS 600 desktop computer.  The installed Help and Support Center guide date for use with Windows Media Center 2004 and has never been updated to include most of the changes system over the past six years. Dell or Microsoft should be responsible for the update of the guides or instructions that are installed on the operating system. Not only that, but Media Center and Movie Maker themselves also grossly neglected as updates are concerned.
The currently installed Help and Support Center guide is missing details on significant changes to Windows applications and utilities.  I rely on up-to-date information to make changes to my OS applications and utilities.  There is a lot of information in this guide that is incomplete and misleading and therefore not very reliable.
I have an OEM of Windows XP version and I wonder if there is an update of current or replacement for this system guide and who is responsible for the update.

Nothing in XP will be updated. The current Windows operating system is Windows 7. XP is already three iterations of the windows behind. A great substitute for the XP search feature (which was never very good) is Agent free Ransack.
