Lost file when access OS has been reloaded

Lost mouse & keyboard on a restart.  I couldn't do anything in "Safe" mode  It is not material - had to reload XP (as well as all programs and drivers).  Mouse and keyboard are back and are working properly.  But I can not access my old files because I did not list them as shared and I can connect is more like my old 'me '.  More than 50 GB of my data is still there, but I can't access it.

Hello, Ken

Are encrypted or compressed in any files?

What is the exact error message you get when you try to change the owner of the file and when you try to access it?

If you're on an administrator account, you should be able to take possession of almost any file. If you are not able to take possession of the file, the problem may be a faulty hard drive or corruption. You can run the disk check to see if there are errors on the disc: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
