Low RAM in Satellite L500-1XL

When I ran a diagnostic on my laptop (Satellite L500-1XL) report he said that my RAM was low and to upgrade for better performance - it was very slow to start lately.
However, I discovered that my model is no longer supported and I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

Keep in mind, I'm a total novice when it comes to computers so nothing too technical if you please!
Thank you.

With more RAM your laptop will have better performance.
According to specification for laptop, your laptop comes with 2 GB of RAM, but it can be upgraded up to 4 GB.

So buy second 2 GB of RAM and upgrade your laptop.

  • Satellite L500-1XL - does boot and the screen stays black

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1XL, when I turn it on the fan and lights and the hard drive light blinks several times then nothing, he's not going to the Toshiba screen remains black screen, tried ext monitor but still nothing.

The fan always runs very quietly and the hard drive is running in, I put the hard drive in an another L500 and it is very good and can be accessed without problem, it has only 1 stick of 2 GB of RAM DDR3 and the other L500 I is DDR2 so I can't try to change the RAM. If I remove the ram should it beep or does only desktop computers do this? Mine does nothing when it is removed.

Any help would be very useful, thank you!

    Hi gazzdowzell,

If your laptop doesn t boot it seems to be a hardware bad working it could be everything, motherboard, BIOS, CPU, etc and it is difficult to say what exactly is the problem.

First of all, I would like to try this:
[What steps must be followed if your Toshiba laptop does not start? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=21]

If it doesn t work, please contact a service provider authorized in your country. If your laptop is under warranty, repairs are free.
In addition if you remove the RAM and the beep of t n for laptop, it seems to be another problem. If you have removed the RAM module would be defective, the computer would have a beep.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite L500-1XL - new hardware upgrades

    Hi all
I have the Toshiba Satellite L500-1XL and recently bought a new 500 GB internal HD and the upgrade went well. However, the internal transfer speeds aren't that fast. He is often out on 18mps level. Why? Affects of that? Use of the RAM, the use of the disk, the free storage space? The HD came with the laptop was 5400 with 8 MB, but my new is 7200 RPM with 16 MB with 11 seconds of access time. If that should not be much faster?

Also, how can we get the support of USB 3.0? Only through new hardware? I know it goes into Windows 8 as this means there could be a few Windows 7 supports or who is still dependent on material?

What are the most effective upgrade options to make my laptop run faster? He was modest. When I got it, but now use it for any need so get. Thus, upgrading to HD 160 GB to 500 GB (5400-7200), but it's unique processor with only 2 GB of RAM. I noticed on the Toshiba page so it says on a 64 bit system with 4 GB of RAM, the chart may use up to 1 800 MB of RAM upgrade RAM (not expensive) and then the processor? Even a single dual core would do the job? No need for a costly i3 and perhaps not compatible with the motherboard.

    Thank you!

    Hey Buddy,

And what was your old HDD? HARD disk speed depends on different factors. You copy a large number of small files and a large single file?
It s also useful to defragment the HARD drive from time to time. This can improve the speed. Also keep the system clean and use a registry cleaner like CCleaner that cleans up your registry.

USB3.0 is a different interface. This new operating system wouldn t help you because it s material new feature/upgrade.

Other improvements regarding: CPU and graphics card is not supported as you can read here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/FAQ35006D000RR01.htm

Your laptop has Intel GL40 chipset and the maximum RAM capacity is 4 GB. So you can install 2 GB DDR2-667 module in each memory location.

  • Re: Satellite L500-1XL - display problem after BIOS update

    Hello!

I recently received a Satellite L500-1XL, works fine until I gave it to my friend...
The problem is that he has updated the bios to V 2.10 (don't know why) and since then, the image on the screen appears as 15.4 "even in the bios.

Any ideas what could cause the problem?

    Thank you

Can you please make a picture how he looks in and post here?
2.10 is the right version and I really put t understand what is the problem.

  • Satellite L500-1XL - strange Windows 7 error - hardware failure or virus?

    Hi people,

I am running windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XL.

About 6 weeks, Windows refuses to load.
I would get the "Toshiba" screen, then on startup of Windows startup, but then nothing else than a black screen with an icon of the mouse (mobile).

I could not in safe mode, and Toshiba built in recovery utility would not work.
"Even using the Toshiba ' product recovery" DVD did nothing, even if the drive was some strange, repetitive clicks for this, so I suspected a faulty hard drive. (Possibly where the MBR has been OK, but the data weren't?)

In any case, I put in a replacement HARD drive (backups are a wonderful thing BTW!) and DVD recovery charge perfectly and everything seemed fine.

About 2 weeks later, I had the same problem
("Toshiba" Windows startup splash screen, but then nothing but a black screen with a mouse (mobile), no safe mode icon; no recovery utility)

This time, however the product recovery DVDs worked fine first time.

Another 2 weeks and the same problem will reoccur; This time, it took another HARD disk for the recovery media to work.

So my question is, really, what could be causing this anomaly?

Would it be a virus which is corrupt something that is preventing Windows from loading? And the 'prevention' so that I can not load even the recovery utilities?

In this case might it also prevent the loading product recovery DVD?

Or am I looking at an intermittent fault with the connector on the HARD drive that can be either physically damage the drive or at least prevent it from loading?

I read about the so-called "Windows Black Screen of Death", but I'm sure this isn't that.

All the advice accepted with gratitude...

    > So my question is really what could be causing this anomaly?
I doubt it s a virus or something like that, but nothing is impossible.

In my experience, the data on the HARD drive can be affected by different software.
In my case, the data on the HARD drive was corrupted, because the 3rd party software changed some files and the master boot record is damaged.
I formatted the HARD drive and created new partitions.

I also use the CCleaner and I defragment the HARD disk several times in the week.
Since the HARD drive and the data are ok and didn t notice such symptoms more.

Maybe you should try this too

  • This external modem will work with Satellite L500-1XL, running Windows 7

    Hello

When in Spain, I need to use the dialing up to the internet through Telefónica.
I guess that the L500-1XL is not an internal modem?

This external modem will work with the L500-1XL running Windows 7?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

    A

    Hello

You re right Satellite L500 doesn t have an internal modem, so you need an external.

I think you can buy every modem that is compatible with Vista. Alternative ask your favorite computer dealer or authorized service provider

  • Satellite L500-1XL - high CPU usage all the time

    Hi all

I've owned the L500-1XL for over a year now and I recently encountered a new problem: for the last few weeks, the laptop everything can become very, very slowly. Everything I do, the laptop freezes and may stop responding for a few minutes at a time. Regardless of the application I see is to do so in the process manager, stop it, but then another application steals all CPU - this isn't a particular application...

-I'm crazy about security and make quick analyses and complete analyses frequently, including spyware and rootkits scans startup
-I update drivers all the time, but have already re-installed all the drivers that came with the laptop and no change.
-J' recently added more RAM and a new hard drive internal, but this problem existed before the new facilities
-J' tried SP1 installation integrated in a Windows 7 disc and installed, and I noticed the problem of CPU for the first time then. If after that when I put in new hard drive I used the Windows Installer disc which is come with the laptop instead and in no time the problem comes back.
-J' have uninstall the applications that I don't use and there is not a lot of new applications on my laptop that I am not familiar
-J' tried it a bit on the internet and it is a very common problem, but I still don't know what to do

This happened to someone? Someone at - it ideas? I would be very grateful, it starts to drive crazy me! My laptop is not my laptop when it wastes my time...!

Hmm hard to say what's wrong here
In the Task Manager, you can check the process that locks the CPU and use the whole performance of the CPU.
You can google for this .exe to know what software or application uses this process.

Theoretically, it could also be a virus

  • MHZ RAM on Satellite L500-1V1

On the spesifications of the satellite L500-1V1, it says that it has 4096 MB DDR3 RAM at 1 066 MHz, but why is it only 533 MHz in each map?

I don't think that must be it multiplying by 2?

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop was equipped with DDR3 modules of 2 GB 1066 MHz (PC3-8500)
There are two modules means portable use 4 GB of RAM.

But the 1066 MHz can be achieved if the bus front end (FSB) would support 1066 MHz too

My Notebook model is this one. When I bought this computer on last December. I have 32-bit installation of Windows 7. Then I discovered the only used 2.84 GB ram.

So, I followed the toshiba Web page to recover my computer and upgrate to 64-bit Window7. But in the end I found always of 4 GB ram (2.84 GB used)

so, how can I make from 2.84 to 4.00 GB ram? = "4.00 GB (4.00 GB used)

    Thank you

    Hello

Don't know if it solved your problem but try:

Go safety start-Control Panel of configuration-system-configuration-boot system Administrative Tools - Advanced options
Make sure the maximum memory of the option is not checked. If it is checked, uncheck, press on apply, Ok and restart.

  • Can satellite L500-1XL - I reduce drive D?

I just bought a Satellite L500-XL with 160 GB HARD drive.

It is partitioned into a c drive and a drive of equal sizes, and it seems that the D: drive is used only for recovery files. that leaves 67.4 Go unused. By default Windows 7 library folders are on the C: drive, so this drive will fill and let a user inexperienced, thinking that the disk is full.

Is it necessary to devote half of the files recovery disk, and what can I do about it?

    See you soon

    Hi ernstk,

First: create the Toshiba recovery disc. If something goes wrong, you can restore the factory settings every time and you can do what you want with your laptop. Just launch the Toshiba recovery disc creator and follow the instructions on the screen.

In addition, you can change the partitions. Just use the Windows disk management tool.

But let me give you a little advice: don't change the size of the partition. Just move your own files like photos, music, documents, etc. on the second partition. If you need to reinstall the laptop using the mode of recovery of HARD drive, these files will not be deleted (only the first partition). So that s pretty comfortable. :)

  • Upgrade RAM of Satellite L500

I am looking to upgrade my Toshiba L500-1ZP
    Update includes 2 x 4 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz, 500 GB SSD and changing the current i3 330M with an i5 580M (tdp on two is 35W)

The only problem im against is supported Bios for the i5 580M
Toshiba makes 1 version of bios for all laptops L500 series?
IFSO can you all tell me if there is a toshiba l500 series laptop PC with an i5 580 m cpu?

    Thanks in advance?

not sure about the bios, but you might want to make sure that the i3 of is identical to the matrix of i5 (in shape and size). It should be because mobile i3/5/7 are basically all 2c4t even with amounts and different clocks in cache

  • Satellite L500-1XL: catering on the day of the purchase using HARD drive recovery

    Is this possible?

I'm trying to restore my laptop to this day of purchase (only a month today). From what I see on the forum, I'm just in a long line of us discovered that the version of our recovery DVD does not match the product we bought. This is why I would like to restore the 64-bit version (without the option out of order price of recovery media that is shockingly overpriced compared the offer from Microsoft to switch to DVD 64-32 / 32-64 bit more shipping costs).

() This brand of righteous 'aid' is subjective, condescending and above all and most relevant to this forum is useless. "I don't understand why you don't save up to 5,000 copies the day of purchase"... etc. We all make mistakes, and if you have done one, you're going to do on new. It's nice when the person we meet at this time is not pointing the finger of judgement)))

    > So, I would restore the 64-bit version (without the option out of order price of recovery media that is shockingly overpriced compared the offer from Microsoft to switch to DVD 64-32 / 32-64 bit more shipping costs).

The laptop came pre-installed with Win 7 64 bit. In addition, you have the recovery disk Toshiba version of Win 7 32 bit.

Please take a look in the user manual.
He says that you can create a recovery in addition to the operating system which was pre-installed disk. means Win 7 64 bit.
There should be a Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator called preinstalled tool. This tool allows to create own 64 bit Windows 7 new recovery disc.
After you create this disk, you can use it to put the laptop in the same State as on the first day of purchase.
