M.2 950 Pro

Hi all

(Aurora R5, Gtx 1070, i7-6700, 64 GB ram, 1 TB harddrive)

I recently bought a samsung 512 GB SSD, and I'm having a few problems.

When I turn on my PC without the SSD installed, my PC windows/bios load with no problems.
As soon as I install the 950 and turn on the PC, it displays the alienware logo, and the blue bar at the bottom of the screen fills up pretty quickly. Then, he stays on this screen and will not boot windows or Bios.

Any help is appreciated. My ultimate goal is to load win 10 on the SSD and serve the 1 TB of storage just.

Works very well. Have no problem.

  • Alienware X 51 R3 upgrade HDD Samsung 950 Pro - 512GB

I got cloned and installed the Samsung 950 PRO. I can boot windows 10 on the Samsung drive when the HARD drive is not connected. When I try to re - install the drive HARD original system returns to this drive during startup and boots into windows 10. The boot priority is set to the default values, something like this:

    Network

    CD ROM

    USB KEY

    Hard drive HDD1

I'm guessing that their must be original tosh 1 TB HDD1 and new Samsung car and I just need to point to the right pair where the HDD1 drive is on the priority list? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in UEFI or Legacy mode to start?

If you have an external USB enclosure, best thing to do is to clear the disc rotation while it is booted from the SSD.

  • M.2 SSD in X 51 R3 - Samsung 950 Pro? -Need help

    RE: X 51 R3 - Samsung 950 Pro

Alienware 51 R3 x I and when I was installing my SSD, I saw the port of m2. I ordered a Samsung 950 Pro, installed, but nothing.

The computer does not start. I get the white screen with the blinking cursor.

Repair CD / USB do not work.

When I remove the m2, the computer boots fine with my SSD hooked using Sata ports.

I heard that there is an SSD of M.2 PM951 m2 stock.

Does this mean that the Samsung 950 Pro does not work?

Nope - SATA III is still slower than 2xPCIe 3.0 lanes.

The Samsung 850 m2 will probably reach around 520-550 MB/s Seq reading due to the limitations of the record Protocol and SATA port. You can see that I'm reading Seq 1500 + Mbps even with only two active channels. The 950 NVMe Pro is able to 2500 MB/s speed with 4-way active reading.

The only place where having 4 lanes from 2 lanes for NVMe Pro 950 issues is in sequential read speed. The write speeds and Random access doesn't seem to be limited given that the max drive speed doesn't seem to go beyond the bandwidth of 2-way.

Boy I was wrong, he refuses to detect the PRO 950 and refused to start at all. I have the 1 TB back out, just so that I could start again under the windows installed on the Pro 950. And before you say anything yes I disable the startup of windows for the 1 TB option in the Bios.

  • XPS 8900 and Samsung 950 PRO Boot sequence problem

I have a 8900 XPS with Windows 10. I have a Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSD installed using a x 4 PCIe3.0 NIC - to-M.2 installed in PCIe SLOT on the XPS 8900 motherboard 3. I used Samsung cloning software to clone the OEM 1 TB HDD (immediately after you set up Windows 10 on it) for Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSDS. Then I used the Samsung Software Wizard to install all the latest drivers.

The only way I am able to boot from the SSD PRO 950 is to detach the HARD drive (which invites a Code of error Dell # 2000-0141 or something like that... no disc HARD detected). Seeing the Dell error at startup screen, I click on 'Continue' and Windows 10 boots perfectly fine (and very, very quickly). I just used my PC this way for a few weeks now. However, I really want to take advantage of the disk of 1 TB of extra storage space.

When I plug the HARD drive and reboot, Windows 10 is loaded from disk (not the SSD) and I don't get the Dell 2000-0141 error screen. I pressed F2 or F12 at the Dell splash screen to go into BIOS to change the boot sequence, but I don't see that the SSD listed as a 'disc' or the source file for the start of Windows 10 controls... Shut down the PC, unplug the HARD drive and starting up, I get the Dell screen #2000-0141 again error (without HDD detected), click on 'Continue' and Windows 10, even once, start up normally on the SSD.

Is it possible that I can use the drive HARD without the PC automatically boot from the HARD drive?

    Thank you!

    -Tyler

First you need to download the latest driver of Samsung 950 NVMe (this is not included and is required) to you

OEM HARD drive, then clone the drive.

its about half way down the page.

Then see if you can find it in the BIOS, I pulled out my HARD drive and its in the pile of gift, all SSD for my system. I'm sure that you can remove the secure boot and startup of the PCIe SSD.

  • Dell XPS 13 2015 and update of Samsung 950 PRO m2

When I ordered my Dell XPS 13 May of this year, I ordered it with a disc of 256 GB knowing that I would upgrade eventually to a disk of 512 GB once the new discs of NVMe m2 were out. I didn't do well capture the variations in m2 and when I pre-ordered the 512 GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe I expected to pop in and go. No luck. I should have known that they would not make it as simple as that... :-(

The drive is compatible physically of course, but has the "M" key edge connector, while the drive I pulled the connector edge key "B & M. I am running the BIOS A05 on the Dell, but he can't see the PRO 950 drive at BIOS level. The integrated test tool indicates "no hard disk". If this seems to be a BIOS problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it a question of Dell, he argues with a new BIOS update? Or it will never work because the XPS 13 is not compatible with this generation of pilots of M2? Looks like I need to go back to what happens, but if Dell eventually allows, I may buy it again.

If it won't work, any suggestions on a 512 GB drive that works? Samsung XP941 or XP951 will work? An idea about the difference between the two (the XP951 is $50 + more).

UPDATE: this player is not compatible with the Dell XPS 13 and probably will never be because of energy consumption (5-7 watts). You just don't want a storage device that power in your laptop. The Samsung SM951 512 GB is the best player at the moment.

For the record, I was able to get the 950 is recognized Pro to install windows 10 on simply turn on the legacy startup options.  Once turned on my windows install USB he saw as installable media.  After installing the drive had an EFI boot sector, so I was able to disable legacy startup.

  • HP Envy 17 t-n100 CTO: my usable laptop Samsung 950 Series PCIe x 4 Pro (Gen 3), NVMe as boot drive?

Just bought HP Envy 17 ", 17 t-n100. Originally, it is equipped with a 512 GB SSD, the m2, the sata3. I want to update Samsung SSD 950 Pro Series, 256 GB, PCIe NVM, m2 and use it as a boot drive. Is it possible for this laptop?

    * In terms of hardware, this laptop computer motherboard does support SSD PCIe and NVMe (physically and electrically)?

    * How about this laptop Bios, support NVMe? I know that win10 supports NVMe, but what the BIOS?

Appreciate the answers to these questions

The BIOS is not the issue. It also has to do with the material. And do you seriously change the BIOS is a viable option? The BIOS is exceptionally hardened against hacking efforts. Very few succeeded. A lot of effort have been made to the number of white list of wifi and very, very little success by very serious coders, which most of us is not.

HP makes now several models that use NVME m2 disks but they are for most business models. I have one in my G3 from 15 Zbook I added and my 'world of the thinner' spectrum 13 was one of the factory. I tried upgrading my laptop SATA m2 (a Lenovo Carbon X 1) used prior and he is not, and this is the result which has been reported here with similar models of HP.

  • How to install a Samsung Pro 950 m2 in an Alienware 17 R3 successfully.

    Not to do:
    Contact Dell for help
A direct solution to the other members of Alienware
A direct solution anywhere on the internet
    Do not install clean Windows.
Do not use the imagery of recovery.
    Auto not cloning software.
Do not use the Dell BIOS.  It doesn't matter if it does not detect that it will always start if you follow my method.
Experiment with the thought that there is an option more easy/better.

I have tried many steps of diskpart and usb ISO windows. I tried the migration.  I tried to change the IDs.

    What to do:
    Install the driver Samsung NVMe.
    Use Macrium Reflect.
Close and remove all applications/devices even in the taskbar of the clock.
Source is the HARD drive.  Destination is the SSD.
Drag partitions of HARD drive one by one to the destination bar.
Adjust the GB to accommodate the additional partitions.  I had to use 225,7 GB to 256 GB C: (3rd partition from left to right) who gave me an extra space for 2 other partitions (the last 2).  The win something and something recovery.
If you use any other imaging/cloning recovery software could not clone all the data from partition 1:1.  Samsung said in the notes that he won't completely clone recovery partitions.
Turn off the PC and remove the HARD drive.  Put the HARD drive on desktop computer and remove all partitions using cmd > diskpart > list disk > select HDD disc number > own type > enter.
Put the HARD drive in the PC.  Turn on the PC.
This can take 2 restarts for the SSD completely to work perfectly.  I had to go through a disc once error checking so that it works very smooth.

    * If you can not always start you can load an iso of windows then enter cmd then type bootrec /rebuildbcd press o, then enter then done

It worked perfectly!  I used Paragon Disk Manager to clone partitions for the Samsung 950 Pro. It would be nice if the BIOS allow you to select the boot drive without unplugging the HARD drive (in my case a Samsung 850 Pro).  No reboot was needed... it initialized from the Pro 950 first. • Windows will ask drivers during the installation of Windows 7 Pro on samsung SSD 950

I'm doing a clean install of windows 7 Pro on a new Samsung 950 m2 Pro drive. My motherboard sees the drive but the windows 7 install is not and wonder which I can't find a driver. It is a new construction. Asus motherboard. I'm installing from the DVD, and everything starts fine until the Setup program cannot find the 950 pro. The 950 pro is the only player at this moment, I installed. Is there any solution for this?

Thanks for looking into this but I found a solution, all I had needed was the pilot for the 950 pro, once everything went as smooth as, say Kalua. Feel good that here the monster has increased.

  • What to choose? Samsung 850 pro or Photoshop pro 950 m2.

I'm going to build my new PC, and the focus is Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I on side projects such as Cinema4D, Adobe Premiere and After effects. It will be a processor 6800K, a GTX 1070 (for some extra fun in spare time) and 32 GB of memory.

I'm still nog certain to do the 850 or 950 m2 pro pro for my OS and programs.

On paper and in the benchmarks, the 950 pro is destroying every SSD out there. But the downside is the Heath and the price.

Second and this is my main question... you will see the difference between the 950 pro and the 850 pro when you make large files. For example, I was working in a digital painting 14FR. It's a spectacular size that would be printed for large windows. It was horrible to work in this file and it took me a lot of extra time, waiting on the computer.

-What is the 950 pro worth his money or doe that speed up my work in just a few seconds?

I hope someone can help out me.

    Roy

When you work with large files, you must make sure that there is no I/O bottlenecks anywhere. In other words, you need a balanced system. I don't know what an SSD marginally more fast, by itself, will make much difference.

First of all you need of enough RAM (32-128 GB) and a record of effective working configuration. If your system SSD has sufficient free capacity - and you need a lot for these filesizes, 100-150 GB at least - the fastest configuration is to have scratches on your system disk. With spinning disks, it is advisable to have zero on a separate disk.

If you want maximum speed of I/O you might consider RAIDing two or more SSD, but then you must also have a separate RAID controller. Not sure if it is worth.

FWIW, I have a 500 GB 850 as my system disk, using an i7-3820 and 32 GB of RAM. It works well for large files, I regularly work on the panos of 30 000 pixels or so without any problem. However, I would like to make a separate 240GB SSD set up for scratch, mainly to avoid wear on the system drive.

  • Best use of a drive IS Samsung 950 m2 pro for first?

I just got the drive Pro 512 GB NVME 950.  I also have the Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB SATA3 drive and an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9266 - 4i with 4 1 than TB of RAID 5 disks.

I lost all my data RAID when I lost two drives on the four.  At first, I lost one and when I added a replacement disk, I lost another.  I think that my RAID controller card is dying.  I'll give up my RAID because I can get much better performance from the drive IS.

The 850 EVO is my boot drive.  I had to do the Pro 950 my boot drive, but it only would give me a marginal improvement in time to start.

Reading the page of hackers, I think that my best two players use is

850 EVO - operating system, programs, file

Exports of 950 pro - Cache of media, media, projects, previews,

An alternative is to make my 950 pro the boot drive and put all the files it contains.  Most of my projects is small enough for that.

Also, I can only put SPEEDY on a single disc with Samsung magician and I was about to put on the Pro 950.

    Any opinions?

I recommend a small change, let the media Cache in the default position on your startup disk.  They seem independent of speed, and when you move a project to one of your drives just delete the Cache of media and media Cache files on the boot drive.  If you reopen a project folder archives they will be quickly recreated
