M300 XP Installation

Hello

I chose to install XP from scratch rather than using the restore CD. The reason is that I need temporarily a dual boot PC.

Unfortunately, I was not able to find a driver for USB2 ports and Device Manager is showing a "(USB) Universal Serial Bus controller) that it does not find the correct for driver."

Can anyone suggest where should I look to fix this?

Thank you
Joe

You will need to ensure that you have Service pack 2 and all updates. This should solve the USB problem because pilots are part of MS and updates. You can also get a PCI device. Be sure to only install the last stack bluetooth and Wifi drivers to get rid of these

  • Portege M300 - Ubuntu, bootmgr error

    Hi guys,.

I hope you can help, I spent 2 days reading similar posts, but nothing seems to work.

I installed Ubuntu on an external hard drive (using my Vista machine). Can I boot Ubuntu from my Vista machine without any problem.

However, I now want to use this hard drive Ubuntu in my new NetBook (for me). (Toshiba, Portege, M300). However when I install my Ubuntu HD in this machine I get the infamous error "bootmgr is missing". I REALLY hate this error now.

So I did my research and give EACH of them thinking that I should use my Vista recovery DVDs for this problem. Why the hell do I need to use a Vista CD when it comes to pure Ubuntu installation?

Can someone give me some ideas? Computers laptop Toshiba require Bootmgr (i.e. an installation of windows?)

    Please PLEASE help,
    Marc

    PS thanks in advance...

You don't need a special boot manager, Linux should start very well after a successful installation.

Did you delete all partitions on the HARD disk before you install Linux?

It seems that the Windows boot sector is still installed.

  • Portege M300: Is the protection of HARD drive only for the brand of Toshiba drives?

    Hello

I am trying to upgrade my Portege M300 with a hard drive bigger, as seen on the Portege forum, I posted the thread after that two hard drives from samsung does not similarly, shortly after the installation of the new.

I just want to know if the protection of Toshiba HARD drive utility is simply made for Toshiba hdd or if it can work on any other brands of hard drives of brand. As I say, I want to upgrade a 60 GB to 160 GB and 2 new hard drive failed. I've since updated my bios to the latest version and I also consider not to install this hard drive protection feature, just in case where it will cause problems once more with my 3rd HDD replacement of same nature.

I appreciate any thoughts on this.
    Thank you very much
    C

    Hello

Usually it s any manufacturer is.
If the HARD disk supports the CHIP so it should be possible to use this HARD drive.
The HARD disk protection tool verifies the parameters of the HARD disk.
But the settings are configured by HDD manufacture then it might be possible that the HARD disk will not work if the tool would not choose the settings correctly.

  • Satellite M300 - Webcam is either disabled or has not

I tried to uninstall & reinstall the driver and software of webcam, however no still no chance. It's a M300-PSMD8A-03H00G running Vista 32-bit, with a built-in webcam and I get the error message is...
"webcam is either disabled or has failed." Please check your webcam settings. »

The only support for this model download is an update of the BIOS with no explanation of what she updates, patches or fixes. Which is pretty ordinary to say the least.

There seems to be a lot of people having problems with Vista service pack 2 (SP2) that killed the WIFI, but since roll back to SP1, the WIFI now works again. The webcam stopped working around the same time that the installation of SP2, however cancellation has not resolved the problem of the webcam.

Ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

What assistant webcam software you have reinstalled exactly? I ask this question because the Web from Toshiba site presents only an update of the BIOS for Vista.
Theoretically the laptop webcam to another software should work also on yours. Check this box!

By the way: the BIOS would be worth a try. If the driver webcam doesn t work for you, try update BIOS!

  • Portege M300 - how to install driver LAN

    Hello

I got a new hard drive put in my Portege M300 and managed to get the drivers all released on except the lan and a modem.
I found the drivers here and make them, but which file do I use to install the application? ...
I have one that says "PRO network driver uninstaller connections" but nothing obvious for amd installation... no files for directions...

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

How to install the LAN driver?
It is very easy, you can install it in the Device Manager.

First of all, you need the correct LAN driver.
You can find the Portege M300 on the Toshiba drivers European page driver-> * Archives *.

After the LAN driver has been downloaded, you must unzip this package.
Then go to Device Manager, select the unknown device (NIC) in the network adapters, select install or update the driver and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Portege M300: FN + F8 does not not & FN + F2 kills Power Saver

I recently had to reimage my M300 and reinstalled the latest version of the drivers, but find myself with two problems.

    1. even if the wireless keyboard shortcut utility is installed (and the process runs in memory), when I press Fn + F8, when the wireless switch is turned on, nothing happens. When the switch is off and I press it I get the message "wireless communication is disabled. Please activate the wireless communication switch", while the pilot is definitely running. I saw a similar error in a Satellite forum indicating that a change is needed in the registry.ini file. Any ideas anyone?

    2. the Power Saver (Fn + F2) tool works fine until I try to change profiles using the Fn + F2 key, when it blocks the tool with a fatal energy-saving, and it cannot be restarted without rebooting. New - any ideas?

    Hi Mark

In my opinion there is no general answer to such problems.
I guess well everything worked until you have reinstalled all the drivers. Am I wrong?

I think that the driver installation is a key to the resolution of problems.
Believe me, I installed the drivers on my Satellite several times and for the first time not all functions worked because I installed the drivers in the wrong order.
After that any new installation has been correctly.

So try to do again you downloaded the drivers from the Toshiba site? There you should find an installation instruction, I hope.
Take a look at this document and try to follow this guide line

  • Satellite M300 - missing drivers Vista

    Hello

My name is Jugdip and I bought a Toshiba laptop is about a year.
About 3 days ago my cousins came and they asked if they could use my laptop to check there email and I said why not.

And the problem is that they some how managed on the basis of the motor pump destory the laptop. I had Windows Vista Home Premium
installed on it and they screwed up so I did a new clean install of Windows Vista.

_ * WHAT * _, now lets join the _point_.
The point is now some drivers are missing.
    * The list: *.

    -Standard VGA graphics card
    + _Other Devices_
    -Ethernet controller
    -Mass storage controller
-Device Audio modem on Bus High Definintion
    -Network controller
    -Video controller

_ ~ * Notice: list copied directly from my camera Manger.*_

Here is the list of the drivers I need. I tried a bit of there Web site and havn't had a bit of luck.
In addition, I can't connect to my router via WiFi or via an Ethernet cable.
So I can't use the option where automactically Vista detects and installs the drivers for you.

Satellite M300 isn't European notebook Toshiba. So you won't find Vista drivers on the European driver Toshiba page.

I think the Sat M300 is a Canadian or Australian series laptop series.

On the two pages of driver Toshiba (Canadian & Australian) you will find the drivers and the Satellite M300
I recommend you to check exactly your model of laptop and looking for drivers on one of the listed pages.

  • Portege M300 (PPM30A) - lost access to HARD drive recovery

    Portege M300 model PPM30A-02E001.
At some point during the installation a Sony camera I lost access to my hidden partition (HDDRECOVERY) where I can make the recovery disks.

I can see it in disk management tools, but the link is missing.

Is there a way I can make the link? "Brand recovery disc" icon is gone as well.

    Please, I beg you.

    Hello

Wait a moment, please: why you write about on the hidden partition HARD drive recovery? I think you mixed up something!
On Vista and Windows 7, there is a hidden partition, but it has nothing to do with the option HDDrecovery from Toshiba. This on the hidden partition is a feature of Windows, also called Windows recovery environment!

Normally HDDrecovery files are stored on the second partition in a file of the same name. Can you access the second partition?

If this isn't the case, I think the only chance is to order a new recovery disk. Therefore, you must contact the service provider authorized in your country.

  • Satellite M300 - how to use the recovery disk

    Hello world

I was wondering how to use the 2 recovery discs that I burned recently if I wanted to fix my USB ports (as seen in my Toshiba M300 - wire to USB ports)

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

You can use the only recovery disk to reinstall the whole OS!
This means that the use of the recovery disk will format the whole HARD drive and will set the laptop back to factory settings!

If you want to use the recovery disk and then insert it into the ODD and the start-up of this disc.
Then the installation of the OS should move forward and you should follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Recovery disk to a partition on Portege M300

    Hello

I reinstalled my xp win since another cd of xp on portege m300 laptop and does not burn a recovery disk hard of the with windows that provided thoshiba computer, with his comments today that you burn your own backup instead of they send you an original cd of win xp. I want a cd backup/recovery cd now and I see that they compartmentalized (or what his name) a separate 2, 5 GB hd with the name "HDDRECOVERY".

This resulted in my windows has installed on E: cause it's a 2, 5 GB partioned HDspace C: windows called and I could choose E: to install win xp and I didn't erase the siloed 2, 5 GB of space. I toughed I somehow could access this file of 5 GB HD 2, but it dosen´t show in 'my conputer' in the windows disk management tools not. You can't do anything in this manegmant tool so that it can show in "my computer". I would like to access this area and burn this HDDRecoveryfile so I can get my respective windows that followed when I bought the computer from the win xp serial that is provided under this cumputer did not work with my new cd of win xp.

PS. How to install windows on C: If the installer of windows think that c is the 2, 5 GB partioned file? I don't want to delete it.

    Hello Andrew

The situation with the Portege M300 is a bit complicated, but I'll try to explain. Portege M300 (I believe only in Germany) is delivered without Recovery DVD and also Tools & Utilities CD. The two of them can be created by the user, but only if the appliance is preinstalled at the factory. The unit of the factory preinstalled with original image contains a tool called Recovery Disc Creator. With this tool, you can create the two media. There is no way to do it without this tool.

Unfortunately this tool you can not find on the Toshiba download page. Because of this, you can keep that partition on the HARD drive but it has no sense at all. You have your own OS preinstalled without Recovery Disc Creator.

    There are two solutions:
    1. you can format entire HARD drive, create clean partitions and install own OS using all things, that you can find on the Toshiba download page.
2 contact authorized please partner in your country. They may try to order the original DVD of recovery for you. If this recovery DVDs is not available the service partner can make factory settings again but with costs.

That s all I know Portege M300 and preinstalled software. If you have any other questions, please write again.

    Good luck!

  • M300-101: can I install Win Xp Prof?

    Hello

can I install on Win Xp Prof M300 (but not the tablet version)?

I must not have English version... If I now Toshiba does not sell M300 with multi language pack...

If I install standard XP Prof. it'll be some problems with drivers or something?

    Kris

    Hello

In my opinion, you can install the Win XP OS without any problem on your M300.
I also found a good driver on Toshiba page.
It is important that you will install all the drivers necessary Toshiba and utilities in the correct order after complete installation of Windows XP.
You must install the driver from the Chipset in the first, then the common modules and pilot display and so on.
