  The 'necessary' program is a pilot. And a Windows 7 pilot certainly isn't on the original HP disk, because Windows 7 did not exist when the first HP 1012 is out.

  Apparently there is no Windows 7 driver for this printer and You ' r eout of chance. Here is my standard message on this topic:

  Whenever you switch to a new version of Windows, you must install the drivers (software that interfaces between the hardware and Windows) for printers, scanners, video cards, etc., that have been written for this new version of Windows.  And also note that you need different drivers for a 32-bit version of Windows and a 64-bit version.

  Is your Satellite 5100 already equipped of wireless network card? As far I know THAT WLAN is an optional feature not available on all laptops. If so, you are only looking for WIFI networks within range.

  If you don t have built in WLAN card you can use a USB WLAN key for example. These sticks are cheap, and then you can go online too. :)

  It might be possible with just the base drivers, for other software, such as your Photo editing programs, including painting, for import documents or images from the scanner.  Windows Fax and Scan can be able to do.  When you go in such programs are there options scan and they see your scanner?  If this is not the case, try the full download.

  If you want to of HP to make scanning programs, you may need the-base drivers and software (larger download).

  For my HP ' All in one ' works like a scanner, it was necessary for me to download all drivers and software.
