Mac Pro SSD upgrade

I have an 8 Core 2.4 GHz Mac Pro which makes use of all the interior spaces SAT 4 drive mid-2010. I would add an SSD to gain some speed and from what I've read a 500gig drive would be correct. That would store my data of user on the existing OS X SATA drive but leave enough space for the applications and OS on the SSD for more speed.

Does anyone have advice on the best options and how to set up?

  • Cannot connect on Mac Pro SSD because El Capitan is missing?

I have an old 3.1 Mac Pro with an SSD for the main drive and an old HD Lion v10.7.5 for legacy applications and files running. The novelty is that I can not connect via the SSD, BUT, the good news is, I can connect to the computer through my old HD. It was El Capitan installed 10.11.6. The SSD still has its demands, but they cannot be opened with Lion, so this seems to imply that El Capitan is missing.

Question: Any ideas on how the SSD 'fixed' so it can be used as the journal into the drive and run the latest applications.

  • Mac Pro CPU and GPU upgrades

Hello, I am looking to buy a Mac Pro 2008 and had a few questions. 1. I found I can pass of say a 2 X 2.80 GHz 2 x 3.0 GHz CPU, but I looked up a few processors (from my MacBook Air i5 2013) and one very well like i5 Core 6600 k in guides and found compared to my only MacBook, it is barely faster , but compared to the 6600 k, is pretty lame. So I would like to know if I can put a more modern, faster CPU in the Mac Pro. 2. I saw you pass GPU also through multiple models of Mac Pro, but a similar question, wondering if I can swap in a GPU more modern. I'd be by accepting a list of compatible CPU / GPU if it works.

    Thank you!

  • ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card in the Mac Pro 4.1/5.1

    Hello

As the proud owner of a Mac ro 4.1 (updated to 5.1 and 2 X of Hexa-Core Xeon X 5670 CPU) I "suffer" a restriction.

And it is now old and really slow USB 2.0.

I would like to add a PCI USB 3.1 and I spotted the ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card.

Of course, this card is given only as compatible with Windows...

But I've seen a few reports of people claiming to have inserted this card in their Mac and have used successfully with several devices.

It seems that these reports are under "Yosemite".

I was wondering if they are always good with El Capitan...

I put the card in the Mac.

It seems to be recognized by the Mac Pro.

In fact looking at the system information, under "PCI" give "Expansion USB card".

    BUT:

    -No USB key I have insert mounts;

    -No USB stick plug mounts;

    -my mouse lights

    -the keyboard does not work...

    So I'm wondering if:

-El Capitan has got rid of the first USB support 3.1 to Yosemite?

    - Or if my card can be default somehow?

-If this behavior can be caused by updates, I made (Mac 4.1-5.1 online) + 8-Core CPU-online 12 Core CPU?

If anyone would be able to help me, I would be eternally grateful :-)

If so, the card can be sent to the seller...

    Kind regards.

    Hello there Penguiner.

Looks like you bought the ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card and questions about its compatibility with your Mac Pro. The following Knowledge Base article speaks to the maps provided by Apple which have been tested and work with the Mac Pro:

On the compatibility between Mac Pro-carte models graphics

Since the ASUS card is not listed, the reference of the article could be a good recommendation to follow:

This article applies only to video cards that originally shipped with a specified Mac Pro or upgrade kit have been offered by Apple. Similar maps that are not provided by Apple may have compatibility issues and you have to work with this card provider to confirm compatibility.

Thank you for reaching out to the communities of Apple Support.

    Kind regards.

  • Mac Pro early 2008 OS 10.6.8 at 10.11 on a new SSD upgrade

    Hi all!

I want to spend my Mac Pro hard drive to an SSD with a new installation of El Capitan, but I also want to continue to use Adobe CS3 (I can't afford a new version... > _ <).  I read that some people have a lot of problems after upgrading their operating system, even when you use the legacy of Java 6 to CS3.

Someone at - it good tutorials step by step to install a new OS on a SSD?  I have the adapter for my Mac to use the SSD drive also.  I'm not * that * tech savvy, so I don't want to spoil anything!  :\

Would it not be possible to keep my current hard drive with Snow Leopard and run Parallels or Fusion for Adobe CS3 on my SSD?  I've never used Parallels or Fusion (preferences?), so where the Snow Leopard operating system to be need?  On a partition on the SSD or can it be on its own hard drive (the one I'm currently using)?

Also do not know when I improve my OS, how do I tell my Mac to start El Capitan and not Snow Leopard so I keep the older operating system on its own hard drive?  It is system-> startup disk preferences?  Is that how I can go back, if I need to?

    Here are my specs:

Mac Pro early 2008 (MacPro 3,1)

    Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz

    16 GB RAM 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

HARD drive 500GBx2 (one is currently my Time Machine, I'll use it as a backup of my photos)

500GB SSD (no not in my Mac still installed)

4 TB HARD drive (will have Time Machine on half)

El Capitan would be really slow on my Mac Pro or should I go with the Mavericks or Yosemite?  I'm just trying to extend the life of my Mac as long as possible!

I'm really sorry for all the questions!  Thank you very much for any help!  ^____^

    ~ Christina ~.

-Unless you have already "purchased" Mavericks or Yosemite is is not available for download.

-I just download the installer of El Capitan from the Mac App Store and run it and order that EL Capitan to be installed on the new SSD. You can then by pressing the Option key at startup to choose which version of the OS you want to boot from. You can set either as the default startup in system preferences > startup disk.

-During installation, you use the configuration wizard to migrate SN drive stuff. YO can also do it later using Migration Assistant but who has created a new used with the migrated data.

-With 16 GB of RAM and an SSD El Capitan will be fine

  • Mac Pro (mid 2010) upgrade

I have not updated anything on my mac pro since I got it except my ram. I was considering upgrading my graphics preferably something with three monitors, and also the SSD hard drive. You have any suggestions on what would be the best upgrades to get my old computer for 6 years running a little bit more smooth.

    Thanks in advance.

The original graphics card was the 5770. It already supports three screens – one by Dual-Link DVI and two others by the DisplayPort. more than two cards requires special care.

  • Upgrade Mac Pro 3.1 2016

    Hello

y at - it a favorable upgrade I can give my Mac Pro 3.1?

so far I've always been running OS X 10.5.8

I had to install 10.7 on a pny cs1111 ssd that I need to fix my old system, which worked.

I had problems with upgrade of equipment due to software that I wasn't ready to upgrade, because it worked very well (which was not supposed to change).

I read through many threads, but could not yet conclude what options to take advantage of, for the upgrade of my Mac Pro.

SSD are safe to use now? Fact sorting am function work.

Another question, I upgrade, I use a yamaha 01 x, which seems to run 32-bit. Found the button hold 3 and 2 the solutions for this, which is very good for me, rather than invest in getting even an equivalent sound device.

Logic Pro seems to be evolving all the way, I'm still working on OS X 10.7, which I am trying to use because of the TRIM function I need to run the DSS, as far as I figured out.

I read also on the most recent raid card technology that might just make my i / o really fast, but then again I live in Germany and I can't seem to find the mini das extension cable here in stores, to actually connect it right.

I read most of the threads upgrade, do not give conclusion, if the upgrade actually working stable for more long, which is my goal.

I want my Mac to become more course (trying to find the best bad solution too) and more fast.

BTW. I have especially aktually work with Adobe cs products and Logic Pro.

I hope that it is still logical. And I'll answer any question that might help my quest, in case I forgot to mention the necessary details.

Maybe there are threads, I missed, so please post a link if you know. Most of them were who says now. I would get a solution from 2016, if the whole thing is.

  • 2009 mac Pro 8 core graphics upgrade advice

Hi everyone, my Mac Pro crashed recently and wiped out the SSD drive and 8800gt graphic card in the process. I have since replaced the SSD but you want to replace the graphics card also. Can anyone recommend some links to maps of upgrade appropriate that work with this machine you?

Take a look at macvidcards, they have a wide variety of graphics cards from amd and nvidia, from low cost to high power.

In general, every current video card should work in your mac, but the 'pure windows versions' do not show an image until osx is fully charged and drivers are loaded.

Versions of macvidcard are flashed so can show splash screens. Not normally necessary, but when that mind in the process of starting or when you need bootcamp boot selection screen, you will see the value of the additional monetary you spent for the funniest versions.

I got my 980ti to them.
