MacBook Air tech support scams

Hello

Has anyone heard of US Software Solutions Inc. and scams on them? I checked their site, seems legitimate, but anyone can put up a Web site. I called the numbers provided, a person pick up... however...

I think I have been scammed. Yesterday, my computer froze with a popup that showed that I had a mistake and tech support number provided. I tried to stop the laptop, tried to force quit safari. The pop up kept repeating. I tried to open apple support, tabs would be open but the gel. I called technical support, with hesitation... bad feeling all the time... gave them the $, because they 'fixed' my laptop online... now it works, but I'm afraid to use it. By banking example, passwords etc.

I am not computer savy.  Any suggestions? Help

Yes, you have been scammed. Contact your bank for more details on how to deal with the fraud. Immediately change all passwords for anything that may have never accessed from this computer. For ultimate peace of mind, you can restore your computer using a backup prior to the access by criminals.

For future reference: Force Quit Safari, then restart Safari while holding the SHIFT key... That's all.

Hello, thanks for your answers. My computer will not start no longer unless I get a boot password. Reads the message "this computer is configured to require a password in order to start up. Please enter the password to start below '. The person calling me [phone number 011 44 203 318 0712] said I should use the password "88" if ever needed, but I didn't go forward with this. Can you tell me what to do? Can you connect to my computer to view issues or can I talk with one of your representatives?

    3. I tried to restart my computer, and the computer screen now displays in the order:

Blue screen "Option and Choose" - "continuous", "Use a device", "resolve", "turn off your PC.

"When I choose to"Solve problems", the options" Reset this PC ' and ' advance options 'appear.

I would like to speak with someone who can guide me through a procedure to check the details of the problem and fix it if necessary. I have one don't know what version of Windows I have on the computer, I think it's Windows 10 [not sure].

    Thank you.

    Hello

    Who called who?

This information is for the unsolicited telephone calls from people claiming to be from Microsoft.

    It's a scam.

We have all the errors and warnings in our Event Viewer, which is another ploy they use to scare you

Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And Microsoft does not contact you unless YOU have made prior arrangements with them to do.

I just got got off the phone with a Ceylon-tech support person. I talked through a series of commands that led me to a website called techinline.net. This has given to the person on the phone to my computer access. She then went to another website www.systweak.com. • Microsoft Tech Support scams

I just talked to a local it service company who told me that I have been scammed by fake Microsoft technical support.  They claimed that Microsoft never give phone support.  Is this correct?

Here's what I did.  I find the following link through what I thought, it was the Microsoft technical support.

    https://partner.support.Services.Microsoft.com/en-us/contact/callback/4/?OSMCSignIn=true&WA=wsignin1.0

They called me back immediately.  I talked to different tech support people in different sessions to try to correct a 10 failed Windows installation.  At one point, I gave remote access to a working computer to make a USB bootable recovery.  I watched what was happening on the screen and see nothing strange.  I didn't ask for the passwords, money or credit card information.  The probability is that it was a scam?

    Thank you!

    WRO

Your local business is partially correct.   Microsoft will be never cold call users.  They have no way of knowing of youor computer is infected, with errors, etc..  If someone calls you without you calling it first of all it is a scam.

If you access the assistance of partners and they will call back you later, you can be pretty sure they are legitimate.

From your description, I seriously doubt that it was a scam.  They do not have ask for PII (personally identifiable information) has not asked for money and you called after them called everything first.

If you are a partner, there is also a website (for partners) where you can ask any questiions online and then make a phone call

    http://partnersupport.Microsoft.com/en-us/mpnwinclient

  • Tech support scam possible.

Can someone who is supposed to be from Microsoft and takes control of my computer via the phone, he can get information of programs installed on my computer?  For example can get my Quicken program account number? They can get any information where I pay my bills online?   I worry because I had someone to take control of my computer today after computer has stopped working and this telephone number appeared and said: should I call to get the computer working again.  Thank you

Yes with windows 10 they can easily do this

Since essentially when you accept the agreement of 10 windows user

You agree to allow Microsoft to get their hands on your computer

files, hard drive, communication, even your voice and your face, where you are, what you do etc etc.

While Windows 10 in fact to gather a lot of information and send it to Microsoft, to suggest that Windows 10 allows MS take control of a client PC are pure invention and fear mongering. Collection of usage data are one thing, hack a PC is something totally different.

  • The call tech support?

I received a call from someone claiming to be a technical support for the windows operating system. They said they were be proactive and helping people fix infected files. This happened to someone else?

Yes.  Microsoft does not know if you have a problem, unless contact you them yourself.  They are * not * first call without something from you.  Like 99% of other businesses - if you use their product and are happy - good enough.

After getting scammed by some fake tech support... my computer is still safe to use?

More than two places to check (the second is obviously only valid if you are using Windows Firewall; if you use a third party firewall instead, see your user's guide or the help system application for how to manage exceptions to the firewall blocking rules):

Control Panel > system > Remote tab

    make sure that no

"Allow Remote Assistance invitations sent from this computer".
    or
"Allow users to connect remotely to this computer".

    are checked.

Control Panel > Windows Firewall > exceptions tab

Browse products "programs and services" and make sure that the only items that are checked are the application you WANT to be able to pass through the Windows Firewall

  • 2015 Macbook Air - download speed between 3 Mbps and 100 kbps avg.

I have a 2 month old Macbook Air El Capitan 10.11.6 running 2015. Since the day I opened the box and connected to the internet, I saw really slow to the Internet until I gave up on streaming audio and video. Connectivity is so bad that pictures on web pages stopped loading.

I made every difficulty I could find online as well as reminded twice technical support to have them tell me to do things that I've done.

The last call, I spoke with a supervisor who is convinced that it is my ISP internet despite all the other computers on my home connection and see downloads 10 x higher than my macbook. (40 MB/s to my 3 Mbps), and the fact that I see bad connectivity no matter what network I'm on. Two things, I told the tech support supervisor. I have appointment of Engineering tomorrow where I'll be very interested to hear their ideas and their solutions.

I have owned 5 5 iPhones, iPads 3, 3 iPods, Macbooks and countless accessories Apple and devices over the past decade. I'm sad to say but my next devices will not be Apple.

My most current iPhone, which is a year and a half old, is slowly dying as the touch screen loses the changes and external buttons stop working. The two-year mark, it'll be a brick. Just in time for an upgrade of $400!

Honestly, I'm shocked at how Steve Jobs for this company. I never would have guessed that her crazy quality control and standards have actually been driving Apple light insofar as it goes to the pot, a few years after his death.

If you have an appointment, they can check the issue.

  • MacBook air crashes, I'm unable to open all the applications but Safari.

MacBook air crashes, I'm unable to open all the applications but Safari. I can still access the app store to download some antivirus software.  I downloaded AVG hoping it might cure the problem, unfortunately it made it worse.  I got this macbook for about 3 years and I have not had problems.  I recently opened safari on another user and he came with a message saying that you have now received a virus.  I don't know what to do, or how I can fix this problem.  The office is constantly freezing as well, I'm out of options!

Determine if you can start up your Mac in 'safe' Mode. Read how here: OS X El Capitan: safe mode. If you find that the document confusing or difficult to follow, please write back for instructions.

After you have determined how your Mac works in 'Safe' Mode, restart normally.

    Regarding your other concerns:

I recently opened safari on another user and he came with a message saying that you have now received a virus.

These messages are false. It is a very common scam. Read about it here: Phony 'technical support' / 'ransomware' popups and web pages

I downloaded AVG hoping it might cure the problem, unfortunately it made it worse.

It is to be expected. Don't waste your time with things. "AVG" can be particularly difficult to uninstall, a fact that I learned to evaluate myself. The problem is that its uninstall instructions do not work. I got by deletion of the Mac and restore its contents from a Time Machine backup. You have a backup?

  • Mavericks will install on MacBook Air 2008

    Hi all

I bought a MacBook Air, which seems to me to be a 2008 model.

Its installed with Leopard 10.5 which seems to be old and things like iTunes and QuickTime are old and obsolete because Leopard is too old for me to install the latest version.

I found some USB drives bootable on eBay loaded with the Mavericks , but I noticed in the description that the supported devices are MacBook Air late 2008.

I don't know whether mine is end of 2008.

Surely, I can spend Leopard to unlock more features with the software up to date.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

 > about this Mac > system report > search for the model identifier in the presentation of the material.

Based on MacTracker and the tecniques of El Capitan, the ' MacBookAir2, 1 "MacBook Air (late 2008) model and later version can run software current of El Capitan - if there is enough disk space and memory available.  See the tech for the minimum requirements.

If you have 10.5, you buy OS X 10.6 Apple and upgrade to it and from there you can move towards more current OS X software.

  • How to connect my HP 3070 to Macbook Air wireless

I have a new MacBook Air and want to connect to my HP Deskjet 3070, either wireless or cable.  I have the printer installation disc, but of course no output on the Mac.  Can anyone help?  I'm not very techie I am so afraid it will have to be simple!

    Hello Owady,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I would like to help the Deskjet 3070 installed on your MacBook Air. Given that the MacBook Air doesn't have a CD player, you will need to install the software via download.

Depending on your operating system installed on the Mac, you can choose one of the following links below.

If using Mac OS X v 10.9, let me know and I'll get the link of the Apple software.

    Hey Molly624,

If I understand correctly, you have trouble getting the Apple Watch to unlock your MacBook Air. • MacBook air crashes after the release of sleep since the upgrade of the sierra

Began to notice that since I upgraded my macbook air 2015 to sierra, system crashes. The trigger is always when I wake the sleep system (whether it is by opening cover or press a key). Issue is intermittent and may not be reproduced every time. I contacted apple support and they recommended resetting the SMC (ctrl + shift + cmd) but that didn't help either. I also did a check of filesystem (fsck-fy) and which seems to be very well so.

I noticed others seem to be faced with similar problems and a common theme that I noticed was that both we seem to have an installed tardisk. Not sure if this could be a factor?

While it is not any loss of data, the question is certainly annoying and disruptive to work.

The same question was observed at about 7 times since the update of the sierra. Containing the report of Etrecheck to the breast
