• Songs from Server 2003 added to the WMP11 library but does not appear or play on remote drives

  Goal is to make the large library of songs on Server 2003 available for play on the Onkyo HT-RC180.

  Using WMP11 on XP SP3 as a mechanism of source.  On the second machine I have Server2003 with collection of songs.  Can add pieces of server to WMP11 library on the XP machine, do appear in the library list and read.  Can also see and play the songs pasted on the source XP machine.  So far so good.

  Change the permissions on the files on the server to match those of XP machine, including inheritance and the NETWORK SERVICE, does not solve the problem.

  On the XP machine, change the capture of rip to a server folder, and then to rip a CD on the server does not have the ripped files to be seen or played on a remote drive, although they can be seen and read on the XP machine.

  If I turn the tables and use the laptop as the source, but still store files on the server, situation remains unchanged - physically located on the laptop songs are fine but those on the server can not be seen or read on the remote drive.

  Seems to me is not a problem with file permissions.  Seems more like something wrong with the installation of WMP leading to something wrong with the database of WMP - but deletion of database and restart does not help.

  What, exactly, the permissions are on the server to allow playback of the songs on remote drive?

  What is the problem with WMP11 settings on the XP machine?

  I am trying to connect to a remote drive. I clicked to map the drive, entered the name of the drive, came the name of login/password for the computer turns on and then it give me this error message: the specified network folder is currently mapped using a different user name and password.   In Windows 7 Enterprise, I would like to point out that, if you map \\server1\share1 as drive letter X using "user1" and "password1", then try to map \\server1\share2 (a different share) as drive letter Y using the same ID "User1" and "password1" and you select 'connect using different credentials' in the dialog box connect a network drive and specify the id "User1" and "password1". you will get this error MESSAGE INCORRECT that says 'the specified network folder is currently mapped using a different user name and password'.

  The message is bad because:

  1. the specified network (action2 in my example) folder is not mapped at all, and

  2. the server (in my example, "server1") is already mapped (to a different and different drive letter share) using the SAME user name and password.

  The error message is wrong in two respects.

  This let me puzzled for a while until I realized that once you have mapped to 'Server1' using the credentials, you can map to different actions on the same server without re - specify the credentials.  It is NOT CLEARLY the 'Map network drives' dialog box, which leads to users (like me, and I'm a programmer by trade) trying to enter credentials again and this incorrect error message.

• Remote drive deletes all files except for one...

  I have a problem with one of my users.  On 40 employees perched at this place, it's the only happens.  It connects to a remote drive in another city, and we'll call it the T drive.  When we go to the T drive we see a long list of files.  At first she sees all files as well but sometimes he falls into a single folder on his screen.  This folder is a folder called Scans and inside this folder is a long list of employees at several sites.  When she opens this folder "T:\Scans" rather than see the long list, she can't see his name and files under it.  This seems to be a permissions problem, but if it stops and restarts the computer, everything is back to the way it should be.  This has been ongoing for some time and happens about once or twice a week.  The permissions would be set all the time and permissions on all of these files is 'Everyone', because these files must be available to all members of society.  There is another drive for secure files.

  Yes, put your iMovie library/ies on a fast (7200 RPM) external hard drive to the Apple format is a good way of working.  Details of the setting up of libraries are covered in the help files to:

  Note that you may need to consolidate the media in an existing library before you travel to avoid breaking links to media located in the libraries from other Apple applications.  See:

  I would not recommend using Time Capsule - you would need a separate partition above the used by time machine, and you could put some data on the same drive as backup.  Connection speed can also be a problem.

• MacBook Air external NTFS drive reading

  HI, this is my first post.

  My wife has a MacBook Air 13 "display mid 2013 running Yosemite OSX v 10.10.5

  I'm trying to read and then copy the files from a NTFS formatted drive that I use on my Win7 machine. I'm trying to transfer files from the PC to the Mac.

  I can see the player in the utility tool drive of Mac but that you do not see the drive in Finder. I think I have the configuration of disk NTFS (made in Windows) share anyone can change the disc.

  I saw in several places that Yosemite be at least able to read NTFS files. I'm not trying to write to the disk, only to read.

  Any suggestions? I would stay with NTFS (compared to exFAT) for purposes of reliability if possible.

  Check the settings on the sidebar of the Finder preferences and general tabs. If they are configured properly (a shared drive on a network will be a connected server), try to fix the PC.

  To connect to a network drive, use the connection to the server command in the Finder menu go.

• MacBook Air missing hard drive space

  I noticed that the free space on the hard drive on my Macbook Air has been quickly disappear even if I had not been adding lots of new files, certainly not enough to account for the 10s of gigabytes that disappeared last week. I cleaned it of useless media files, which gives him another 20 GB of space. The status bar it reflects accurately at first, but when I started the computer this morning, it had lost 30 GB of this adjustment.

  After you run WhatSize DaisyDisk, I see that they have both claim that my Air uses Go 296, which is in agreement with the about this Mac, but when you look at the size of the actual folders, there is no way that they measure is added to this amount.

  Using Get Info, I got the following:

  14.43 applications gb

  Users 42,45

  System of 7.77

  Library of 8.95

  That all adds up to about 74 GB of used space. WhatSize actually gives me different numbers. Where in the world are the other 220 or so lack of gbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  (Note: although I typed this out, I noticed that about 8 GB of free space have disappeared in the status bar)

  Here are a few screenshots of WhatSize and disk utility. Of THE claims that 'other' includes 283 GB, but I can't understand what is included in whatever measure it as 'other '.

  3. visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the free space on your hard drive.

  4. also see release space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

  6 see the storage view.

  You must empty the trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

  You should consider to replace the drive with a larger. Check out OWC of readers, tutorials and boxes tools.

  Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are.

  I recently bought an iMac 27 "(rétine 5K, 27 pouces, fin 2015)." I have also a 15 "MacBook Pro (early 2011).

  I understand that this iMac does not support the target Display Mode, but is there a way where I could plug in my MacBook Pro via a Thunderbolt cable and work out of files remotely from there? I know that I can connect to my MacBook as a server, but I do not think that it allows enough speed to transfer between the two. Ideally, it would be as if I hooked my MBP, as if it were a USB key.

  I don't think that the MacBook has a cd/dvd drive. How to install the office 2016? Is there a MS or Apple site to download the software and use the key provided with the Office?

  The boxed version sold in the store where I work has no disk, just a card with a serial number of Microsoft which then allows you to download the program.
