MacBook Pro fn key locked somehow WE

I managed to make my Macbook Pro 9.1 behave as if the fn button is LIT. I pressed the fn key to make the keyboard to behave normally, is not a viable solution. I tried different combinations of fn, control, option, and command keys (well, all, really), both hold and just typing, reset the SMC, reset the Pram, restored the defaults in system preferences - keyboard. I am at a loss.

Various Google searches suggest that others have had this problem, but I have not found a solution online.

The problem arose after that I have had left the MBP asleep for maybe a week and then could not exceed the stage of password to wake up. Forced feeding. Restarted, took forever to get my password to enter (I understand why, now that I realized the fn key problem) and now I'm looking for an answer.

Any help gratefully received.

Just an update...

I plugged a USB keyboard borrowed a Mac Pro on my MBP and it works properly. Makes me think that there is a problem of real hardware with the MBP keyboard. BTW, the problem with the position of blocking ON fn key also affects the operation of this door on the operation of a USB mouse connected to the Mac Pro keyboard and the trackpad on the MBP.

I just noticed that the Mac Pro keyboard does not have a fn key. Wonder if that could be relevant to the operation of the USB keyboard.

  • My shift key does not work on my MacBook Pro

My shift key does not work on my MacBook Pro. Can I use capital letters but only if I click on change and it's annoying. Help ASAP would be appreciated because it is really annoying

    Hello Gracepullan1,

I understand that shift key of your MacBook Pro does not respond as before. Fortunately the steps below can help to restore the functionality of the SHIFT key on your Mac.

    1. In the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. On the view menu, choose the speech.
    3. Click on the text to Speech tab.
    4. If "Text Speak selected when you press the button" is enabled, the key or combination of keys set to read the text cannot be used for other purposes, or used for typing text - click on set the key and replace it with a less commonly used key combination (try using the modifier such as SHIFT keys, command) Option and control). Or disable the option "Read the selected text when the key is pressed".
    5. Click the accessibility pane or universal access in system preferences, and then click the keyboard tab.
    6. Make sure the slow keys is off. With slow keys on, you must press a key for a longer period of time so he can be recognized.
    7. In the accessibility pane or universal access, click the mouse and make sure mouse keys is turned off. With the active mouse buttons, you cannot use the numeric keypad to enter numbers - instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to activate the MouseKeys to five presses down option, you can disable this option to avoid accidentally activate it.) If the mouse keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard without the numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Impossible to type while mouse keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
    8. If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard do not work as expected, see Mac OS x: how to change the behavior of the function keys.
    9. If the problem persists, use the keyboard Viewer to help isolate the problem:
      1. Click the component language & text (Mac OS X v10.6) or international (Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier) in system preferences.
      2. Click on the tab Input Sources (or tab Menu entry under Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier version).
      3. Click on the keyboard and the characters 'On' box Viewer checkbox to select (click on the viewer of keyboard "On" checkbox under Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
      4. In the entry menu (flag), choose Show Keyboard Viewer.

  • If the keyboard is connected and detected by OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application) and try to type something using the keys that failed before to see if they highlight in the keyboard Viewer.
  • Start up from the Mac OS X installation disc, choose Terminal from the utilities menu and test buttons that did not previously.  If the keys work while started from the install disc, the keyboard works correctly.  How to solve a problem of software allows to isolate the software problem that may be causing the keys to not answer.

    Hi iambjan,

I understand that your MacBook Pro has been lost by the intermediary of find my Mac mode. Fortunately, you can go to the off mode lost through the steps described below.

You can disable the lost Mode by entering the password of the device, or by following the steps below. Alternatively, you can follow the steps below to change the details displayed on your lost device.

Note: If your credit cards and debit to pay Apple have been suspended because you put your iPhone in lost Mode, when you disable lost Mode and reconnect to iCloud, you can continue using your cards.

    1. Go to find my iPhone on iCloud.com.

If you don't find my iPhone on iCloud.com, your account has fair access to the web features only iCloud. To access find my iPhone and other iCloud features, set up on your device iOS or Mac iCloud.

    2. Click on all devices, and then select the device that is lost.

    3. Click on lost Mode, then change the information or lost the stop Mode.

If you cannot use lost fashion as find my iPhone is not configured on your lost device, see the article by Apple Support If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is lost or stolen.

  • Macbook Pro keys are replaceable?

    Hello Discussions Macbook Pro,

I was wondering if it was possible to replace the keys on a MBP. I was thinking to switch to the DVORAK keyboard layout, because it is not officially supported by Apple. An Apple specialist Store informed me that the keys on the keyboard, Apple Magic (old and new) can not be replaced. I know it is possible to buy a skin for the key to change, but I would prefer to keep the same key sensation that made me use an Apple keyboard even when I had a Windows/Linux PC.

    Thank you ~ Bryce

The new App Store for El Capitan update has locked up my macbook pro.  Reboot got about 3/4 fact and the machine stops. Turned off the power and turn it on again for nothing doesn't.  How in my machine to begin troubleshooting?

The problem is most likely an attempt to update a system malfunction prior it is probably a problem with your computer, not the El Capitan.

    Start by:

Reset the PRAM and NVRAM on your Mac.

MacIntel: Reset of the controller (SMC) system management

Start in Safe Mode , and then re - start normally. It's slower that a normal start, so be patient.

    If you are unable to start;

Reinstall El Capitan without erasing the drive

Please make sure that you back up.

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after that the chime hold down the command and R until the Utility Menu appears.
    2. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
    3. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) entry of the volume in the list aside.
    4. Click first aid icon in the toolbar. Wait until the button is active, then click it.
    5. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
    6. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

Also, see this tip for user: basic steps for the OS X upgrade.

    If this doesn't get you;

Install Yosemite or El Capitan, from scratch

    Backup if possible before proceeding.

Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the command and R buttons until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:

Select utility disc in the Menu Utility, then click the continue button.

When loading disk utility, select the volume (entered into withdrawal, usually Macintosh HD) from the list of devices.

Click Delete in the main window of disk utility. A panel will fall.

Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).

Click on the apply button, then wait for the done button to activate and click on it.

Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.

Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

  • My macbook pro could not start even after various combinations of keys

After referring upgrade to the macbook pro mid 2011 for OS X 10.11.15, I have to do a lot to restart, as well as the different key combinations in order to get mac (even that becomes difficult to solve the problem now!) I tried the diet, Ctrl + R, Shift + Ctrl + S, Shift + Ctrl + R + P, etc.. Although this may work from time to time, I am particularly concerned when I do school work timely.

What is responsible for this and how can it be solved?

  • Try to install Windows 7 via USB, El Capitan, Macbook Pro 2011 but get this error "No. BOOTABLE DEVICE - INSERT BOOT DISK AND press ANY KEY ' when bootcamp restart my macbook to begin the installation. Any ideas?

I am trying to install Windows 7 via USB, (El Capitan, Macbook Pro - early 2011), but this mistake "No. BOOTABLE DEVICE - INSERT BOOT DISK AND press ANY KEY ' when bootcamp restart my macbook to begin the installation. Any ideas?

You cannot use a USB on Mac 2011 Installer. Please burn the ISO on a physical DVD Windows (a DVD - R Carbon SL on the rate of burning slower is better) and use it to install Windows. The file Info.plist changes only allowing the creation of USB, but does not fully support a USB Installation.
