You don't seem to be indexed (mds) and maybe make a backup as well. NOTHING slows down your Mac. He turns as quickly as possible, a lot of free memory and shows without well-known actors 'bad '.

This leaves "lack of hard drive" as the last always suspect on the list.

  • Beachballing - report Etrecheck

Hello.  I hope someone can help me - my iMac has suddenly begun beachballing two days earlier and slowing almost to a stop.  Since then, he has been erratic, speed up and slow down again.  Here's the report from Etrecheck.  Before that I had recently installed Adobe flash plug in, also created a couple of new accounts and updated Adobe reader.  I seemed that the Mac was gradually slowing down a week or so in advance.  Also, I found that I can't access system preferences.  Thank you for advice or suggestions.  PS I'm not technical at all!  In addition, a little long in the tooth so patience is appreciated.

It is strange that EtreCheck reports 'ram insuficient' when you have 8 GB. I don't see any of the usual suspects in your report.

It is possible that your hard drive has failed, have you tried running the recovery still partition disk utility? Start holding command-r and select disk utility and repair the hard drive. If the problem persists try resetting the SMC reset management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

and boot into Safe Mode, try safe mode if your Mac does not commissioning - Apple Support

    1. the present proceedings is a diagnostic test. It doesn't change anything for the better or worse and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem. But with the help of the results of the tests, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.

The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later versions. I do not recommend running it on older versions of Mac OS X. It will do no harm, but it will not do not much good.

Do not be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You make the tasks more complicated with the computer all the time.

    2. If you have already a current backup backup all data before doing anything else. The backup is needed on the general principle, not because of what anyone in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you encounter any kind of problems with the computer, you can be more than the usual loss of data, if you follow these instructions or risk not.

There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

3 here is instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it doesn't change anything. It does not send or receive data over the network. There is no to generate a report on the State of the computer human readable. This report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents for me or someone else.

You should ask yourself if you can believe me, and if it is safe to run a program at the request of a foreign national. In general, no, he's not sure, and I encourage it.

In this case, however, there are ways for you to decide if the program is safe without having to trust me. First of all, you can read it. Unlike an application that download you and click to start, it is transparent, so any person with the required competence can check what it does.

You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this site of thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. One of the million registered users to have read the script and set off the alarm if it was dangerous. Then I wouldn't be here now, and you would not be reading this message. See, e.g., this discussion.

Another indication that the test is safe in this threadand this onecan be found, for example, where the comment in which I suggested it was recommended by one of the specialists of the communityApple, as explained here.

However, if you cannot satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, do not follow them. Ask other solutions.

    4. here is a general summary of what you need to do, if you decide to go forward:

☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.

☞ Paste into the window to another application.

☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.

☞ Stick the results, which will be copied automatically, in a response on this page.

These are not specific instructions; just a glimpse. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait and paste it again. You don't need to copy a second time.

    5. try to test in conditions that replicate the problem, to the extent possible. For example, if the computer is slow intermittently, run the test during a downturn.

You may have started up in safe mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works pretty well in normal mode to test run, restart as usual before running it. If you can test only in safe mode, this.

    6. If you have more than one user and a user is affected by the problem, and the user is not an administrator, and then run the test twice: once under the affected user and one administrator. The results can be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer, when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you are unable to log in as an administrator, verify that the user concerned. More personal Mac have only one user, and in this case this section does not apply. Don't log in as root.

7 load the linked web page (the site "Pastebin.") The title of the page is 'Diagnostic Test'. Under the title is a text box, headed by three small icons. The right one represents a Clipboard. Click on this icon to select the text, then copy to the Clipboard of your computer by pressing Control-C key combination.

If the text is not highlighted when you click the icon, select it in triple - click anywhere inside the box. Do not select the whole page, just the text in the box.

    8. start the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing Command + V, then press return. The text that you pasted should disappear immediately.

    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal as "Syntax error" or "Event not found", enter

    exec bash

and press return. Then paste the script again.

    10. If you logged in as an administrator, you will be prompted for your login password. Nothing displayed when you type. You won't see the usual points instead of the characters typed. Make sure that caps lock is turned off. Type carefully, and then press return. You can get a warning to be careful. If you make three unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the test is still running, but it will produce less information. If you do not know the password, or if you prefer not to enter, just press back three times at the password prompt. Yet once again, the script will run.

If the test takes much longer that usual to run because the computer is very slow, you can be prompted for your password a second time. The permission you grant by entering it will expire automatically after five minutes.

If you are not logged as an administrator, you will be prompted for a password. The test will run. It just will not do anything that requires administrator privileges.

    11. the test may take a few minutes to run, depending on the number of files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that is abnormally slow may take more time to run the test. During execution, a series of lines is displayed in the Terminal window like this:

    [Process started]
            Part 1 of 4 done at … sec        …        Part 4 of 4 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]

The intervals between the parties will not be exactly the same, but they give an approximate indication of progress.

Wait for the final "Process complete" message. If you don't see it in about 15 minutes, the test probably won't be all within a reasonable time. In this case, press the Ctrl + C key combination or the point command to stop it. Then go to the next step. You will have incomplete results, but still something. If you close the window of the Terminal, while the test is still running, the partial results will not be saved and you have to start over.

    12. when the test is finished, or if you have stopped it because it was taking too long, leaving the Terminal. The results have been saved to the Clipboard automatically. They do not appear in the Terminal window. Please do not copy from there. All you have to do is start a response to this comment and then paste it again by pressing Command-V.

At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words «Start time.» If you do not see, but rather to see a mass of gibberish, you don't expect the "Completed" message is displayed in the Terminal window. Please wait and try again.

If personal information, such as your name or e-mail address, appear in the results, make anonymous before posting. Usually it will be not necessary.

    13. in the validation of the results, you see an error message on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the software which manages this website. Thanks for posting the results of the tests on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

    14. This is a public forum and others can give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but what're told you to do maybe not. For others who choose to run it, I do not recommend that you view the results of test on this Web site unless I ask.

  • Beachballing computer and slow performance EtreCheck included

    Hey guys!
First of all, I would like to thank all of you who can answer, help much appreciated!

I waited until that servers are not overloaded with first time Uploaders (approximately 1 week of release) to download El Capitan, so it would not take years to download it from overloaded servers, I started noticing after awhile my super zippy early 2015 13 "MacBook Pro slow down. (I5 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, certified re-machined, purchased July 2015)

This is particularly visible in switching applications.

Thanks again for any help! Heres the system check.

Contentwatch is a program called NetNanny which restricts the content inappropriate on the interwebs. Just thought I would add that before asking several people.

Upgrade the operating system to a computer running slowly will usually make the problem worse. You should first try to solve the underlying problem.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is particularly bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Run the Console application in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be all Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ all Messages

in the list of logs on the left. If you don't see this list, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu at the top of the screen bar.

Each message in the journal begins with the date and time when it was entered. Highlight date back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered since then until the end of the episode, or until they begin to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy messages to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command + V.

The journal contains a large amount of information, almost all this is useless to solve any particular problem. When you post a journal excerpt, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't dump blindly thousands of lines in the journal in this discussion.

Please do not post screenshots of log messages - text poster.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the journal excerpt, an error message may appear on the web page: "you include content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

  • Beachballing MacPro3, 1, made this EtreCheck an overview

My MacPro3, 1 8 - core has been deterioration in the performance in recent weeks. He may have initially started with beach ball while in Safari, but has become ubiquitous in all applications. The machine seems to be concerned about another activity every minute or so. That is, the characters typed will not resonate. I already disabled all my connection objects in System Preferences. Well, I sometimes see launchd being active, so I suspect there may be other elements that are still running. I also noticed that with the FTPs I run frequently that connections are constantly delay. Note that I have my time down to 10 seconds. In these moments there Top Activity Monitor and rarely visible on more than two or three processes with 20% use so I think that it's probably not a problem to use CPU. I'm afraid it might be a hardware problem because the last time I had problems (even if it was a kernel panic) my graphics card has failed. I'm leaning toward doing a clean install of OS X, but thought I'd see if my output EtreCheck suggest another line of conduct. Thanks in advance for any guidance you might collectively be able to provide.

  • My iphone4 and iPad 2 are included, but not my MacBookPro. Why? Mac. Why? Not a space to add either.

Why is my iphone4 and iPad 2 included but not my MacBookPro?

I use the most recent two-factor authentication, but if I remember correctly, the older two-step verification, allowed you to enter devices that could receive sms text messages or iOS devices with find my iPhone. Your MacBook Pro is not one of those.

Note that the two-step verification is designed to protect someone to connect to your Apple and the fact that you may not list your MacBook Pro as a trusted device only means that you cannot use it to receive a code. It does mean that it is less protected.

  • Yes, another question regarding the freezing of Safari - EtreCheck report included

Yes, another question regarding the freezing of Safari.

From a little over a month (I think), Safari started freezing regularly whenever I want to open new tabs or switch between tabs. I found myself to leave the program several times per day / hour. I can't identify any specific common cause (other than my MacBook being old) or any new software or updates that might have initiated the question. At first I thought he might have many tabs, I tried to open, but recently it happens even with only a few tabs open.

I worked through the steps I found in this forum and others: empty the cache, start in safe mode, etc nothing works.

Based on the previous suggestions, I have downloaded and run EntreReport which I included below. The note and maybe just a distraction, but EntreReport has crashed three times tonight, before he was able to produce the sub report. I ran the report after restarting my system with no other programs running.

Suggestions are welcome at this stage because I want to start using Chrome or Firefox because I like the transfer procedure between my devices.

    Thank you in advance.

    Ben

  • El Capitan beachball memory WARNING etreCheck

Hi all, just went from Snow Leopard to El Capitan a week ago. System worked a little slower that previously, for example, beachball delay when moving from one application to the next. Everything froze last night and I got the message "your system is running out of Application memory". I left a few apps and he was running again, so I did a search on which lead me to some previous discussions on these forums. A little advice that seemed useful was to run etreCheck I get & post the report below. I guess that the problem is due to software obsolete that are always installed and can see some things in the report which appear to be problematic, but I don't know exactly what to do to correct them. Would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

    Thank you

    Michael

    com.evernote.Evernote - /Applications/Evernote.app/Contents/MacOS/Evernote

Everything froze last night and I got the message "your system is running out of Application memory".

This message means that there is no excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, tokens of memory on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the boot volume.) This activity is relatively slow and causes the entire system to be less sensitive. It can happen for two reasons:

A process of long duration with a memory leak (a kind of bug)

Not enough memory for your usage pattern

Please note that if the cause is a memory leak, install more memory will not help. It's likely you have already more than 4 GB of memory. Hunt for leaking memory can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.

These instructions are for OS X 10.9 and later versions. Some details may be slightly different for earlier versions of Mac OS X.

When you notice the slowdown, open the activity monitor application, then select all processes in the view menu, if it is not already selected. Select the memory the real Mem of the treatment twice table column header to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you do not see this column, select

View ▹ columns ▹ real memory

    in the menu bar.

If a process (excluding the "kernel_task") uses a lot more memory than all the others, which could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that constantly catches real more memory over time without ever letting go. Here is an example of how it's done.

"Wired" memory should be less than half of the total. That memory is not exchanged, but makes available physical memory that you may then in Exchange. If most of the memory is wired, which can be an indication of a leak memory in a third-party program that modifies the low-level operating system. Ask for advice in this case.

If you do not have a clear memory leak, the options are to install more memory (if possible) or less than programs running concurrently.

The following suggestion is reserved for users familiar with the shell. For a more accurate, but potentially misleading test, run the following command:

sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total

where process is the name of a process, you think of a memory leak. Almost every process will cause a memory leak. the question is how, and especially how the leakage increases with time. I can't be more specific. See the manual page leaks (1) and the Apple Developer documentation for more details.

TeamViewer is run, which should not be; or even installed unless you know why there is a reason to have remote access to your Mac software.

P5sys is also a remote access software. Why it is installed and running?

Any person with access to the Mac allowed someone to access remotely to your office? As hundreds of scam we sites that display a popup saying your computer is infected and call a toll number NOW!

Based on that alone, I'd be concerned someone has installed a keylogger or other backdoor on your Mac, or at the very least, turned on items such as screen sharing, file sharing, remote access and remote management connection in system preferences. If one of them is on, it's not good and I consider the compromised computer.

There are also a number of unnecessary plug-ins installed. I mean, who really watches or use movies in DivX format? He's also dead like ultraviolet. In addition to the two PDF Adobe Reader plug-ins installed, there is still a third, PDF Browser Plugin: 2.4.4. I would like to delete it.

A lot of people like it (I don't know why), but all the Google apps are memory hogs and spend a lot of time collecting and sending data on your computer and use online back to Google. Would like to get rid of anything from Google, such as Chrome and Google Earth and the googletalkbrowserplugin: 5.41.3.0 plugin.

So the biggest problem and the most concerning is the remote access software.

  • How can I fix slow startup of the computer and the applications on mid 2009 MacBook Pro?  (EtreCheck included)

Hello!  Can anyone help me in this state of EtreCheck to understand what I need to do to improve performance with my MacBook Pro?  The computer is slow to respond after the computer starts.  Apps are also slow to load.  Once I have apps open, the speed is satisfactory.  It just seems to have the hiccups a lot just to get there.

Good advice is greatly appreciated!  Thank you in advance.

  • Question for the experts EtreCheck report included

I would like to get some clarification on an issue that has been this: ideas would be appreciated... Thank you

    Background information:

    1 file Vault is enabled

    2. I reindexed Spotlight

Number 1: Picture size as indicated on my HD is far as shown below: show 10,58 GB and my Photos are indeed 65,48 Go. I guess that a native application would explain the actual size of pictures.

, 2nd edition: I get errors in directory when running the first aid of disk utility. Sometimes it tells me that the disc is damaged and must be repaired, and sometimes it gives me a report as shown below. I have several times have entered into 'safe mode' and ran first aid, but it does not solve the problem. If I had to guess, it might have something to do with 'File Vault' is enabled?

Question 1: re - index the reader - Spotlight - how to re - index the folders or volumes.

Question 2: I don't know if FileVault is the cause. I suppose, however, that he could. I consider turning it off and then see if the disc is OK. These errors can also occur if there are corrupted on the disk sectors. Unfortunately, I've never used FileVault so I don't know if it could be behind your question. Personally, unless you use your computer at a government facility that requires such security, I would find no need to FileVault as there may be more trouble than it's worth. Local host uses certainly not need that level of security.

In the future do not post things like a report of EtreCheck or console logs, etc. unless someone does.
