MacMini & Sierra: no sound

Hi all

I spend my MacMini [mid-2010] to Sierra. Since then, the headphone audio output no longer works.

If I choose HDMI or a receiver bluetooth audio external sound works.

Anyone know how to fix the audio headphone output?

Thank you

Tom

Apple-support, I spoke this morning. We have tried a number of things, but then found to install new Sierra.

Audio output (headphone) now works again.

Note: I tried all settings (for example the helmet as selection, airplay, HDMI, etc.).  I unplugged the HDMI, started to work in the sound, and then plugged headphones in HDMI and headsets leave to new and no setting will restore the sound in the headphones.  I even deleted the sound configuration files, played with the bits, MIDI and other parameters.

I did disk first aid and tonight, tried to do a reinstall in Recovery Mode. I went into Recovery Mode, but nothing after that I said to reinstall Sierra (in fact he said that he would check if I was eligible, then I hit Continue, and nothing's happened over an hour when I left).  I also downloaded from the App Store, reinstalled Sierra and have exactly the same problems. But I'll try fortunately once again in a day or two after your specific guidelines, and it would be nice if it worked.  (I had all of your problems. Mine were the window of the mail attachment issues (opens and closes quickly or opens but not completely, so I can not upwards), network goes offline after I wake the computer from sleep, sleep sometimes takes three tests since the first time I try to sleep, he wakes up immediately.  But I'll give it a try and thanks to you and khati for the info.

  • Bluetooth audio stuttering on Sierra

I'm on a Macbook Pro. Pairs fine but audio skips like a scratched CD

The El captain had no this question.

    HEY Taylor,

I understand that after updating macOS Sierra, your sound quality audio Bluetooth isn't what you expected. I know it's important to have the right sound from your computer, so I'm happy to help you.

You have this problem with all Bluetooth devices connected to your MacBook Pro? This Bluetooth device works ok with other devices?

To start, I would recommend disconnecting from your Bluetooth device and then the pairing again with these steps:

  • Installation on disk external USB - "Closed circle" after the first restart of the installer

I tried to install on my MacMini Sierra (end 2012, Mavericks) to an external Seagate USB 3.0 drive 3TO. The drive is freshly formatted with utility disk (, logged, etc. extended partition GUID) and retired in good health.

Installation always fails on the first reboot. On the first reboot, the screen goes black, there is a white Apple and white progress bar that moves two or three times to the right and then clears the screen and dreaded him circle with a diagonal line appears. Force reboot simply repeats the process.

So, I decided to try and install the Mavericks (the OS on the internal SSD flash of the Mac mini disc) of the partition of the USB 3.0 drive recovery external. This eventually ended up with a white screen, the dreaded circle of diagonal and a widget of rotation for several hours. Force restart it worked and a new Workgroup installation Mavericks was now hard disk external and implemented to date.

Another attempt to install Sierra on the external hard drive, but this time the Mavericks running on the external hard drive is not in the same way with the dreaded circle and the diagonal line.

Near ideas, I tried to install Sierra on an old Seagate 500 GB disk firewire external hard. Shock, horror... it worked without any problem.

Sierra is simply not install on an external USB 3.0 :-(3 TB drive

Someone has it successfully? Any ideas?

    The saga continues...

I tried the USB of the FW - same problem Imaging reader drive.

I tried to start the Sierra - same problem recovery partition USB drive.

    WORKAROUND SOLUTION:

I plugged the USB3 drive on a cheap Chinese USB2 hub and... Sierra, booted from the USB3 drive! Obviously not ideal speed wise, but it'll do for now.

Sierra really dislike my external Seagate Go Flex Desk media USB3 drive when it is plugged directly into a USB3 port on my Mac Mini end of 2012.

[Keep in mind, the Mavericks had no problem installing and running on the drive USB3.]

  • His MacMini 4.1 scrambled after upgrade to Sierra

I have a MacMini 4.2 (mid-2010). He ran ElCapitan and I never had any problems with it. I installed macOS today Sierra and now all sound is garbled. I checked and tried everything in system preferences and configuring Audio and MIDI, same reset NVRAM, LANDAU and SMC, but no change. This system worked perfectly before the upgrade, someone has an idea of what else I could try to get my sound back to normal output? Since I use this MacMini as a media server for music and movies, I am extremely frustrated by the sound issue because it makes the Mac unusable

What do you mean by scrambled?

You use a special exit software? MIDI?

This sound output do you use? USB? Headphone Jack?

    Try a different output.

You have a problem when booting with the SHIFT key? It's the safe mode?

  • Why can't add sounds to mail to Sierra

After the upgrade to Sierra, I would add is no longer a 'personal' sound of my files to act as my 'new message '. The sound folder is locked and I have, even as an administrator, can't unlock it or add sounds in the folder.  All I have now is a drop-down list of predetermined choice of Apple, and none of these things include the addition of new sounds.  Preference once gave me the choice to go to my files, I have more choice. • No sound after upgrade of Sierra

After the upgrade to Sierra, I have no sound.  Did a search, which was told to reinstall the operating system.  However, when I try to reinstall, it says I can't because I have a latest version.

    Any suggestions?  Thank you...

FWIW, it looks like you were in the public beta program and don't exclude therefore ended up with a 10.12.1 beta that would be most recent. All you can do is to wait for the release of the new version of Sierra.

It could be something else, check 'about this Mac' and see what version it says is installed.

  • Change the sounds in Sierra?

Hello good people who hopefully know more than me on these things:

In operating system, we could change the sounds of trash going to Finder & to find your way to coreaudio, etc., but now it seems that one cannot add or remove sounds in or out of this folder.

I do something wrong or Apple has indeed taken something away from us once again (for example, the ablity to customize certain sounds)?

Please if anyone has figured this out in the new system, help a brother.

Also would like to change the sounds iMesage & error as well on the Sierra, if you know the trick!

    Thank you very much!

So I solved my problem by simply reminding you must clear the SIP first, then you can access and modify all that many good things to the desire of the heart of yer.

  • Audio stuttering on MBPro Sierra

I'm on a MacBook Pro installed macOS 10.12 retina end 2013 (Sierra).  For several years, I have used a bluetooth JBL of Charge 2 for this portable audio speaker (and sometimes my iPhone and other iPhones).  He has always worked flawlessly.

Today when I hit play on the audio iTunes began badly stuttering.  After several searches, advice and read everything that I could find (especially regarding similar issues on other versions of the operating system as El Cap, Yosemite, etc.), I did the following, without result:

    • Not matched and repaired the speaker

    • Restarted/rebooted both the speaker and the MBP

    • Reset NVRAM and SMC

    • Redownloaded and reinstalled Sierra

    • Reset NVRAM memory new

    The problem persists.

Note: I have also been hang this portable projectors in the classroom for several years via a port mini display to VGA and have never had a problem.  Since the upgrade to Sierra, can I talk to is no longer in the spotlight (my MBP always spoke to my external monitors (via the adapter, even) but not the spotlight.  I wonder if these issues are linked, at least to the extent where they came after the upgrade to Sierra.  Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Moments after the announcement of this question, I went into my list of connection and uninstalled Knock, an application that allows to unlock the lock screen by knocking on an iPhone.  And here, the sound works fine now.

I guess I should have posted earlier, because I found the solution immediately after.  At least the bluetooth problem is now solved!
