Mail is always "Download Messages".
I noticed that Apple Mail is always "Download Messages". This process will occur approximately every 10 minutes. This is usually between 250 and 270 messages. (screenshot) However, there is no double or extra emails. In addition, the number of downloaded emails usually does not change (perhaps by 1 or 2 later in the day).
I have 4 email accounts in Mail, which are all Gmail accounts. I went through each account settings and made sure they are all handled in the same way and have the same options are checked.
I think I found the problem with account, because I tried with the right button and select "Take account offline" when I see that it starts to download the messages. Once I have put offline, the download stops. I tried to remove this suspected account and Add again, but it still does the same thing. Any help would be appreciated!
Hello and welcome to the communities of Apple support, ggerrits.
If I understand your message just Mail on your Mac continues to show that it Downloads hundreds of mails every 10 minutes. I can certainly understand how she could become a nuisance to see permanently who warn even if no new messages are actually downloading. I'm happy to help him to stop appearing.
You've done some excellent troubleshooting already to refine what e-mail account, what's happening with. The next thing that I recommend you do is to make sure that you run the version of OS X El Capitan, which should be 10.11.6. Using your Mac update, take a look at updating the software on your Mac. If you haven't done so already, I recommend also restart your Mac. Test the Mail after doing those two things.
If the problem persists, follow these steps:
- With Mail open, select "Mail" in the upper left corner of your screen and select Preferences.
- Select the tab accounts.
- Select the e-mail account that you are having the problem with.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Uncheck "automatically detect and manage account settings."
Next, close and then restart Mail to see if you feel the same way.
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

This may sound like a good thing, but I want only to download messages when I do it explicitly. I disabled the checkbox for automatic checking, but it is still to check (and download) periodically. How can I do it only download the messages when I said to do?

I don't know if it's really a problem with Windows 10, but I never experienced it until after the recent upgrade of my operating system. Before the upgrade, new e-mail messages were always displayed at the top of the Inbox window, and I didn't have to scroll down to find them. Now, the newly downloaded messages no longer appear at the top, and I have to search for them after downloading.
Click the heading labeled DATE sort by date. Click on DATE again to reverse the sort.
I have a number of email accounts.
On the lower left corner the State shows "download messages 169 162" as directed by the attached screenshot.
The two numbers are 162 and 169 for now, earlier in the day, he was '54 and 61' and increased steadily as the day progresses.
The difference is always 7 and the status bar remains in this State continuously, with the bar never reach the level of 100% of blue progress.
All accounts are working properly, I can send and receive to all. Any ideas on what may be the cause and how to fix it?
You have created all of the subfolders of the Inbox for the account?
If you happen to have an e-mail account "GoDaddy", then you should be aware of a report that the service is unable to host the mailboxes that contain more than 10,000 messages. I suggest that you go to a postal service provider better. Anything would be better except Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, or Hotmail.
Fed up with Mail. When I open mail it says it is downloading the messages, it can be 2, 3 or more and that is true for a long time. I have to close and reopen to get the content of the messages. Often the mail charge the same messages.
Fed up with Mail.
When I open mail it says it is downloading the messages, there may be 2 or 3 messages to load and this is true for several minutes. While showing that it's always getting new messages, Mail displays the message header but not the content, I have to close to stop this lengthy process erratic and reopen it to get the content of the messages. Often Mail load the same message 2 or 3 times, even if I leave the app end its process, Yes, because sometimes it ends.
Is there anyone who has the answer to this?
I am seriously thinking of abandonment of post and take something else to manage my emails.

I can't attach photos, etc. to e-mail. Always get a failed"" message. I end up having to use Safari if I want to attach anything to an e-mail. It happened for about 6 months I think. I used to be able to fix things to the emails with Firefox. But not for a while now.

Running the latest version of the El Capitan and Apple Mail
I noticed that Mail does the same on my computer and I searched a bit looking for a response. Most of the positions included problems with the functionality of e-mail, which I did not live. It seems that you are in the same boat, everything works, but annoying little dialogue "Download messages" appears, every minute couple that seemed in my case, no real new message coming.
Anyway, I found an old post of 2010 which provided a solution and because it was easy to implement I gave it a try and it seems to work. Curious if you will have a similar result and since I have no explanation of why it works (maybe) then maybe someone else can still sound.
Here's what I did:
- Go to my spam folder and delete all content (from all accounts).
- Come on in my drafts folder and delete all content (from all accounts).
- Go to the dropdown box in the menu bar and choose Synchronize all accounts.
The old post of 2010 affirmed that there was a problem with mail folders and the currents of air and undesirable... as I said that he did not have a lot of explaining. So far, I noticed not all alerts more "download messages" while in the Mail, and like I said they were coming very often.
I hope this helps!

Hello, I am running windows 7 on a samsumg RC512. I use windows live mail to check the corporate e-mail. The e-mail account is a pop account. Any time that I start direct mail it will download new messages and send those coming out. Then it starts to 'download' an infinite number of new messages that actually do not exist. It does not overload the machine or anything like that. Just like that until I hit the stop button. Problem is that if I do not have this message that I need to send will not be delivered, because it keeps doing this download new message loop. I tried unistalling the AVG antivirus and backup program (11 Cobian), nothing works. The account settings are ok and I don't know what to do here. I appreciate anyhelp thanks!
You can back up your messages and contacts before you uninstall / remove Windows Live Mail. Refer to the post of Raphael_S of this link.
Let us know how it goes.

This has been ongoing for at least 4 months (I don't remember 1st time - but was Dec, Jan or Feb)

Original title: error 10053
My program of email Eudora (Version 7. 1 0. 9 paid mode) has recently stopped downloading mail but always send OK.
The error message that happens almost instantly, reads "connection interrupted due to timeout or other failure (10053).
My ISP insists it is my machine (OS = Windows7)
I tried various trade programs to solve the problem, including the PC Cleaner and ReImage, no avail. Can anyone help?

Last week, I installed Sierra on my iMac 2011. Most of the features seem to work well. There is no: the search for any record in the results of Mail app only in messages based on the date of the software installed. In other words, none of my archived emails (sent, received, trash, etc...) from before last week can be successfully found by the search. The same limitations seem to apply to the projectors (or whatever the OS search main application is called) search for e-mail messages.
This problem has been resolved by the reconstruction of each box mailbox (mailbox > REBUILD) individually.
My Inbox has more than 15 messages from mail delivery system resend messages for me to people I've never heard.
I think this one is disturbing:
We were unable to send your message to [email protected]
I didn't send anyone to the address indicated in the message
Probably not be overly concerned. Sounds like a spammer used your email from: address to send spam messages, and now those which could not be delivered back to you. It is called backscatter.
